Judges

1

1 Wedi marw Josua, gofynnodd yr Israeliaid i'r ARGLWYDD, "Pwy ohonom sydd i fynd yn gyntaf yn erbyn y Canaaneaid i ymladd hwy?"
1It happened after the death of Joshua, the children of Israel asked of Yahweh, saying, “Who should go up for us first against the Canaanites, to fight against them?”
2 Atebodd yr ARGLWYDD, "Jwda sydd i fynd; yr wyf yn rhoi'r wlad yn ei law ef."
2Yahweh said, “Judah shall go up. Behold, I have delivered the land into his hand.”
3 Dywedodd Jwda wrth ei frawd Simeon, "Tyrd gyda mi i'm tiriogaeth, er mwyn inni ymladd yn erbyn y Canaaneaid; ac mi ddof finnau gyda thi i'th diriogaeth di." Ac fe aeth Simeon gydag ef.
3Judah said to Simeon his brother, “Come up with me into my lot, that we may fight against the Canaanites; and I likewise will go with you into your lot.” So Simeon went with him.
4 Wedi i Jwda fynd i fyny, rhoddodd yr ARGLWYDD y Canaaneaid a'r Peresiaid yn eu llaw, a lladdasant ddeng mil ohonynt yn Besec.
4Judah went up; and Yahweh delivered the Canaanites and the Perizzites into their hand: and they struck of them in Bezek ten thousand men.
5 Yno cawsant Adoni Besec ac ymladd ag ef, a lladd y Canaaneaid a'r Peresiaid.
5They found Adoni-Bezek in Bezek; and they fought against him, and they struck the Canaanites and the Perizzites.
6 Ffodd Adoni Besec, ac erlidiasant ar ei l a'i ddal, a thorri bodiau ei ddwylo a'i draed i ffwrdd.
6But Adoni-Bezek fled; and they pursued after him, and caught him, and cut off his thumbs and his great toes.
7 Ac meddai Adoni Besec, "Bu deg a thrigain o frenhinoedd bodiau eu dwylo a'u traed wedi eu torri i ffwrdd yn lloffa am fwyd dan fy mwrdd; fel y gwneuthum i, felly y talodd Duw imi." Daethant ag ef i Jerwsalem, a bu farw yno.
7Adoni-Bezek said, “Seventy kings, having their thumbs and their great toes cut off, scavenged under my table: as I have done, so God has requited me.” They brought him to Jerusalem, and he died there.
8 Ymladdodd y Jwdeaid yn erbyn Jerwsalem a'i hennill, ac yna lladd y trigolion 'r cleddyf a llosgi'r ddinas.
8The children of Judah fought against Jerusalem, and took it, and struck it with the edge of the sword, and set the city on fire.
9 Wedyn aeth y Jwdeaid i ymladd yn erbyn y Canaaneaid oedd yn byw yn y mynydd-dir a hefyd yn y Negef a'r Seffela.
9Afterward the children of Judah went down to fight against the Canaanites who lived in the hill country, and in the South, and in the lowland.
10 Aeth y Jwdeaid i ymladd 'r Canaaneaid oedd yn byw yn Hebron Ciriath-arba oedd enw Hebron gynt a lladdasant Sesai, Ahiman a Talmai.
10Judah went against the Canaanites who lived in Hebron (now the name of Hebron before was Kiriath Arba); and they struck Sheshai, and Ahiman, and Talmai.
11 Oddi yno aethant yn erbyn trigolion Debir Ciriath-seffer oedd enw Debir gynt.
11From there he went against the inhabitants of Debir. (Now the name of Debir before was Kiriath Sepher.)
12 Dywedodd Caleb, "Pwy bynnag a drawo Ciriath-seffer a'i hennill, fe roddaf fy merch Achsa yn wraig iddo."
12Caleb said, “He who strikes Kiriath Sepher, and takes it, to him will I give Achsah my daughter as wife.”
13 Othniel fab Cenas, brawd iau Caleb, a'i henillodd; rhoddodd yntau ei ferch Achsa yn wraig iddo.
13Othniel the son of Kenaz, Caleb’s younger brother, took it: and he gave him Achsah his daughter as wife.
14 Pan ddaeth hi ato, fe'i hanogodd i geisio tir amaeth gan ei thad. Wedi iddi ddisgyn oddi ar yr asyn, gofynnodd Caleb iddi, "Beth a fynni?"
14It happened, when she came, that she got him to ask her father for a field: and she alighted from off her donkey; and Caleb said to her, “What would you like?”
15 Atebodd hithau, "Rho imi anrheg; yr wyt wedi rhoi imi dir yn y Negef; rho imi hefyd ffynhonnau du373?r." Felly fe roddodd Caleb iddi'r Ffynhonnau Uchaf a'r Ffynhonnau Isaf.
15She said to him, “Give me a blessing; for that you have set me in the land of the South, give me also springs of water.” Then Caleb gave her the upper springs and the lower springs.
16 Yr oedd disgynyddion y Cenead, tad-yng-nghyfraith Moses, wedi dod i fyny gyda'r Jwdeaid o Ddinas y Palmwydd i anialwch Jwda, sydd yn Negef Arad, ac wedi mynd i fyw ymysg y bobl.
16The children of the Kenite, Moses’ brother-in-law, went up out of the city of palm trees with the children of Judah into the wilderness of Judah, which is in the south of Arad; and they went and lived with the people.
17 Aeth Jwda gyda'i frawd Simeon a tharo'r Canaaneaid oedd yn byw yn Seffath, a difrodi'r ddinas a'i galw'n Horma.
17Judah went with Simeon his brother, and they struck the Canaanites who inhabited Zephath, and utterly destroyed it. The name of the city was called Hormah.
18 Enillodd Jwda Gasa, Ascalon ac Ecron, a'r diriogaeth o amgylch pob un.
18Also Judah took Gaza with its border, and Ashkelon with its border, and Ekron with its border.
19 Yr oedd yr ARGLWYDD gyda Jwda, a meddiannodd y mynydd-dir, ond ni allodd ddisodli trigolion y gwastadedd am fod ganddynt gerbydau haearn.
19Yahweh was with Judah; and drove out the inhabitants of the hill country; for he could not drive out the inhabitants of the valley, because they had chariots of iron.
20 Rhoesant Hebron i Caleb fel yr oedd Moses wedi addo, a gyrrodd ef oddi yno dri o'r Anaciaid.
20They gave Hebron to Caleb, as Moses had spoken: and he drove out there the three sons of Anak.
21 Ond am y Jebusiaid oedd yn byw yn Jerwsalem, ni yrrodd y Benjaminiaid hwy allan; ac y mae'r Jebusiaid wedi byw gyda'r Ben-jaminiaid yn Jerwsalem hyd y dydd hwn.
21The children of Benjamin did not drive out the Jebusites who inhabited Jerusalem; but the Jebusites dwell with the children of Benjamin in Jerusalem to this day.
22 Aeth tylwyth Joseff i fyny yn erbyn Bethel, a bu'r ARGLWYDD gyda hwy.
22The house of Joseph, they also went up against Bethel; and Yahweh was with them.
23 Anfonodd tylwyth Joseff rai i wylio Bethel Lus oedd enw'r ddinas gynt.
23The house of Joseph sent to spy out Bethel. (Now the name of the city before was Luz.)
24 Pan welodd y gwylwyr ddyn yn dod allan o'r ddinas, dywedasant wrtho, "Dangos inni sut i fynd i mewn i'r ddinas, a byddwn yn garedig wrthyt."
24The watchers saw a man come forth out of the city, and they said to him, “Please show us the entrance into the city, and we will deal kindly with you.”
25 Dangosodd iddynt fynedfa i'r ddinas; trawsant hwythau'r ddinas 'r cleddyf, ond gollwng y gu373?r a'i holl deulu yn rhydd.
25He showed them the entrance into the city; and they struck the city with the edge of the sword; but they let the man go and all his family.
26 Aeth yntau i wlad yr Hethiaid ac adeiladu tref yno, a'i henwi'n Lus; a dyna'i henw hyd heddiw.
26The man went into the land of the Hittites, and built a city, and called its name Luz, which is its name to this day.
27 Ni feddiannodd Manasse Beth-sean na Taanach a'u maestrefi, na disodli trigolion Dor, Ibleam, na Megido a'u maestrefi; daliodd y Canaaneaid eu tir yn y rhan honno o'r wlad.
27Manasseh did not drive out the inhabitants of Beth Shean and its towns, nor Taanach and its towns, nor the inhabitants of Dor and its towns, nor the inhabitants of Ibleam and its towns, nor the inhabitants of Megiddo and its towns; but the Canaanites would dwell in that land.
28 Ond pan gryfhaodd Israel, rhoesant y Canaaneaid dan lafur gorfod, heb eu disodli'n llwyr.
28It happened, when Israel had grown strong, that they put the Canaanites to forced labor, and did not utterly drive them out.
29 Ni ddisodlodd Effraim y Canaaneaid oedd yn byw yn Geser; bu'r Canaaneaid yn byw yn eu mysg yn Geser.
29Ephraim didn’t drive out the Canaanites who lived in Gezer; but the Canaanites lived in Gezer among them.
30 Ni ddisodlodd Sabulon drigolion Citron na thrigolion Nahalol. Bu'r Canaaneaid yn byw yn eu mysg a than lafur gorfod.
30Zebulun didn’t drive out the inhabitants of Kitron, nor the inhabitants of Nahalol; but the Canaanites lived among them, and became subject to forced labor.
31 Ni ddisodlodd Aser drigolion Acco na thrigolion Sidon, nac Ahlab, Achsib, Helba, Affec na Rehob.
31Asher didn’t drive out the inhabitants of Acco, nor the inhabitants of Sidon, nor of Ahlab, nor of Achzib, nor of Helbah, nor of Aphik, nor of Rehob;
32 Bu'r Aseriaid yn byw ymysg y Canaaneaid oedd yn trigo yn y wlad am nad oeddent wedi eu disodli.
32but the Asherites lived among the Canaanites, the inhabitants of the land; for they did not drive them out.
33 Ni ddisodlodd Nafftali drigolion Beth-semes na thrigolion Beth-anath; buont yn byw ymysg y Canaaneaid oedd yn trigo yn y wlad, a bu trigolion Beth-semes a Beth-anath dan lafur gorfod iddynt.
33Naphtali didn’t drive out the inhabitants of Beth Shemesh, nor the inhabitants of Beth Anath; but he lived among the Canaanites, the inhabitants of the land: nevertheless the inhabitants of Beth Shemesh and of Beth Anath became subject to forced labor.
34 Gwasgodd yr Amoriaid y Daniaid tua'r mynydd-dir oherwydd nid oeddent yn caniatu iddynt ddod i lawr i'r gwastatir.
34The Amorites forced the children of Dan into the hill country; for they would not allow them to come down to the valley;
35 Daliodd yr Amoriaid eu tir ym Mynydd Heres ac Ajalon a Saalbim, ond pwysodd tylwyth Joseff yn drymach arnynt ac aethant dan lafur gorfod.
35but the Amorites would dwell in Mount Heres, in Aijalon, and in Shaalbim: yet the hand of the house of Joseph prevailed, so that they became subject to forced labor.
36 Yr oedd terfyn yr Amoriaid o riw Acrabbim, o Sela i fyny.
36The border of the Amorites was from the ascent of Akrabbim, from the rock, and upward.
