1داود از آنجا هم فرار کرد و در مغارۀ عدولام پناه برد. وقتی برادران و دیگر اعضای خانوادۀ پدرش خبر شدند، همه بدیدن او رفتند.
1David therefore departed thence, and escaped to the cave Adullam: and when his brethren and all his father's house heard it, they went down thither to him.
2بعد هر کس دیگر به آنجا آمد. کسانیکه تنگدست بودند، آنهائی که از قرضداری شکایت داشتند و مردمیکه از زندگی ناراضی بودند، همگی بدور او جمع شدند. و داود سرکرده و راهنمای آن ها شد. تعداد مردمیکه به آنجا آمدند در حدود چهار صد نفر بود.
2And every one that was in distress, and every one that was in debt, and every one that was discontented, gathered themselves unto him; and he became a captain over them: and there were with him about four hundred men.
3بعد داود از آنجا به مِصفۀ موآب رفت و به پادشاه موآب گفت: «خواهش می کنم به پدر و مادرم اجازه بدهی که پیش تو بمانند، تا وقتیکه بدانم خداوند برای من چه می کند.»
3And David went thence to Mizpeh of Moab: and he said unto the king of Moab, Let my father and my mother, I pray thee, come forth, and be with you, till I know what God will do for me.
4پس او پدر و مادر خود را پیش پادشاه موآب برد و در تمام مدتیکه داود در پناهگاه بود، آن ها نزد او ماندند.
4And he brought them before the king of Moab: and they dwelt with him all the while that David was in the hold.
5یکروز جاد نبی به داود گفت: «از پناهگاهت بیرون شو به کشور یهودا برو.» پس داود آنجا را ترک کرد و به جنگل حارث رفت.
5And the prophet Gad said unto David, Abide not in the hold; depart, and get thee into the land of Judah. Then David departed, and came into the forest of Hareth.
6به شائول خبر رسید که داود با مردان خود به یهودا آمده اند. شائول در آن وقت در جِبعَه بر تپه ای زیر یک درخت بلوط نشسته بود. نیزه در دست داشت و محافظینش بدور او ایستاده بودند.
6When Saul heard that David was discovered, and the men that were with him, (now Saul abode in Gibeah under a tree in Ramah, having his spear in his hand, and all his servants were standing about him;)
7شائول به آنهائی که بدور او ایستاده بودند گفت: «شما مردم بنیامین، بشنوید! آیا پسر یسی به شما وعدۀ زمین و باغ انگور و مقام و منصب نظامی را داده است که همۀ تان بر ضد من همدست شده اید؟ وقتی پسر من با پسر یسی متفق شد، کسی به من اطلاع نداد. دل هیچ کس بحال من نسوخت و هیچکدام تان تا به امروز خبر نداد که پسرم نوکر خودم را تشویق به کشتن من کرد.»
7Then Saul said unto his servants that stood about him, Hear now, ye Benjamites; will the son of Jesse give every one of you fields and vineyards, and make you all captains of thousands, and captains of hundreds;
8دواِغ ادومی که با خادمان شائول ایستاده بود جواب داد: «من پسر یسی را دیدم که به نوب، پیش اَخِیمَلَک پسر اَخیتُوب آمد.
8That all of you have conspired against me, and there is none that showeth me that my son hath made a league with the son of Jesse, and there is none of you that is sorry for me, or showeth unto me that my son hath stirred up my servant against me, to lie in wait, as at this day?
9و اَخِیمَلَک دربارۀ او از خداوند مشوره خواست و بعد به او آذوقه و همچنین شمشیر جُلیات فلسطینی را داد.»
9Then answered Doeg the Edomite, which was set over the servants of Saul, and said, I saw the son of Jesse coming to Nob, to Ahimelech the son of Ahitub.
10شائول فوراً اَخِیمَلَک کاهن، پسر اَخیتُوب را با تمام خانوادۀ پدرش که کاهنان نوب بودند، بحضور خود خواست.
10And he inquired of the LORD for him, and gave him victuals, and gave him the sword of Goliath the Philistine.
11شائول گفت: «بشنو، ای اَخِیمَلَک پسر اَخیتُوب!» او جواب داد: «بفرمائید آقا، من در خدمت شما هستم.»
11Then the king sent to call Ahimelech the priest, the son of Ahitub, and all his father's house, the priests that were in Nob: and they came all of them to the king.
12شائول از او پرسید: «چرا تو و پسر یسی بر ضد من همدست شدید و تو به او آذوقه و شمشیر دادی و از طرف او با خداوند مشوره کردی که حالا بر علیه من برخاسته و منتظر فرصت مناسب است تا مرا بکشد؟»
12And Saul said, Hear now, thou son of Ahitub. And he answered, Here I am, my lord.
13اَخِیمَلَک در جواب شاه گفت: «در بین خادمانت چه کسی مثل داود وفادار و صادق است؟ برعلاوه او داماد شاه و همچنین فرمانده گارد سلطنتی و شخص محترمی در خاندان سلطنتی است!
13And Saul said unto him, Why have ye conspired against me, thou and the son of Jesse, in that thou hast given him bread, and a sword, and hast inquired of God for him, that he should rise against me, to lie in wait, as at this day?
14و این، بار اول نیست که من دربارۀ او با خداوند مشوره کردم! خدا نکند که من و خانواده ام خیال بدی دربارۀ پادشاه داشته باشیم و او نباید ما را متهم سازد. من دربارهٔ این موضوع هیچ چیزی نمیدانم.»
14Then Ahimelech answered the king, and said, And who is so faithful among all thy servants as David, which is the king's son in law, and goeth at thy bidding, and is honorable in thine house?
15پادشاه گفت: «اَخِیمَلَک، تو و خاندان پدرت سزاوار مردن هستید.»
15Did I then begin to inquire of God for him? be it far from me: let not the king impute any thing unto his servant, nor to all the house of my father: for thy servant knew nothing of all this, less or more.
16آنگاه به محافظینی که بدور او ایستاده بودند، گفت: «بگیرید این کاهنان خداوند را بکشید، زیرا با داود همدست هستند. اینها خبر داشتند که داود از من فرار می کند، ولی با آنهم به من اطلاع ندادند!» اما محافظین نخواستند که دست خود را بر کاهنان خداوند بالا کنند.
16And the king said, Thou shalt surely die, Ahimelech, thou, and all thy father's house.
17پس پادشاه به دواِغ ادومی گفت: «تو برو آن ها را بکش.» دواِغ قبول کرد و کاهنان خداوند را کشت. تعداد آن ها هشتاد و پنج نفر بود و همه لباس کاهنی در بر داشتند.
17And the king said unto the footmen that stood about him, Turn, and slay the priests of the LORD: because their hand also is with David, and because they knew when he fled, and did not show it to me. But the servants of the king would not put forth their hand to fall upon the priests of the LORD.
18بعد به نوب که شهر کاهنان بود، رفت و خانواده های کاهنان را از مرد و زن گرفته تا اطفال و کودکان شیرخوار همه را کشت. حتی گاو، خر و گوسفند شانرا هم زنده نگذاشت.
18And the king said to Doeg, Turn thou, and fall upon the priests. And Doeg the Edomite turned, and he fell upon the priests, and slew on that day fourscore and five persons that did wear a linen ephod.
19اما یکی از پسران اَخِیمَلَک پسر اَخیتُوب که ابیاتار نام داشت، از آنجا گریخت و پیش داود رفت.
19And Nob, the city of the priests, smote he with the edge of the sword, both men and women, children and sucklings, and oxen, and asses, and sheep, with the edge of the sword.
20و به داود گفت که شائول تمام کاهنان خداوند را کشت.
20And one of the sons of Ahimelech the son of Ahitub, named Abiathar, escaped, and fled after David.
21داود به ابیاتار گفت: «در همان روزیکه دواِغ ادومی را در نوب دیدم، دانستم که او به شائول خبر می دهد. و من مسئول مرگ خاندان پدرت هستم.تو در همین جا پیش من بمان و نترس. هرکسیکه قصد کشتن ترا داشته باشد، قصد کشتن مرا هم دارد. لهذا بودن تو همراه من برایت خطری ندارد.»
21And Abiathar showed David that Saul had slain the LORD's priests.
22تو در همین جا پیش من بمان و نترس. هرکسیکه قصد کشتن ترا داشته باشد، قصد کشتن مرا هم دارد. لهذا بودن تو همراه من برایت خطری ندارد.»
22And David said unto Abiathar, I knew it that day, when Doeg the Edomite was there, that he would surely tell Saul: I have occasioned the death of all the persons of thy father's house.
23Abide thou with me, fear not: for he that seeketh my life seeketh thy life: but with me thou shalt be in safeguard.
