1یکروز به داود خبر رسید که فلسطینی ها به قَعِیله برای جنگ آمده و به چور و چپاول خرمنها پرداخته اند.
1Then they told David, saying, Behold, the Philistines fight against Keilah, and they rob the threshingfloors.
2داود از خداوند پرسید: «میخواهی بروم و بر فلسطینی ها حمله کنم؟» خداوند به داود فرمود: «بلی، برو آن ها را شکست بده و قعیله را آزاد کن.»
2Therefore David inquired of the LORD, saying, Shall I go and smite these Philistines? And the LORD said unto David, Go, and smite the Philistines, and save Keilah.
3اما همراهان داود گفتند: «ما در اینجا در یهودبه در ترس و بیم بسر می بریم، پس چطور می توانیم به قعیله برویم و با لشکر فلسطینی ها بجنگیم؟»
3And David's men said unto him, Behold, we be afraid here in Judah: how much more then if we come to Keilah against the armies of the Philistines?
4آنگاه داود دوباره از خداوند سوال کرد و خداوند جواب داد: «برخیز و به قعیله برو. من به تو کمک می کنم که فلسطینی ها را شکست بدهی.»
4Then David inquired of the LORD yet again. And the LORD answered him and said, Arise, go down to Keilah; for I will deliver the Philistines into thine hand.
5پس داود و مردان او به قعیله رفتند و با فلسطینی ها جنگیدند و تلفات سنگین جانی به آن ها رساندند و رمه و گلۀ آن ها را تاراج کرده با خود آوردند و به این ترتیب، داود مردم قعیله را نجات داد.
5So David and his men went to Keilah, and fought with the Philistines, and brought away their cattle, and smote them with a great slaughter. So David saved the inhabitants of Keilah.
6وقتیکه ابیاتار، پسر اَخِیمَلَک پیش داود به قعیله فرار کرد، ایفود را با خود برد.
6And it came to pass, when Abiathar the son of Ahimelech fled to David to Keilah, that he came down with an ephod in his hand.
7کسی به شائول خبر داد که داود به قعیله آمده است. شائول گفت: «خوب شد! خداوند او را به دست من داد، زیرا با آمدن به داخل چهار دیوار این شهر، خودش خود را بدام انداخت.»
7And it was told Saul that David was come to Keilah. And Saul said, God hath delivered him into mine hand; for he is shut in, by entering into a town that hath gates and bars.
8پس شائول همه مردم را جلب کرد که به قعیله لشکرکشی کنند و داود و همراهان او را دستگیر نمایند.
8And Saul called all the people together to war, to go down to Keilah, to besiege David and his men.
9داود دانست که شائول نقشۀ شیطانی برای او کشیده است، بنابران، به ابیاتار کاهن گفت: «ایفود را برای من بیاور.»
9And David knew that Saul secretly practiced mischief against him; and he said to Abiathar the priest, Bring hither the ephod.
10آنگاه داود دعا کرده گفت: «خداوندا، خدای اسرائیل، بنده ات شنیده است که شائول خیال دارد به قعیله بیاید و بخاطر من شهر را خراب کند.
10Then said David, O LORD God of Israel, thy servant hath certainly heard that Saul seeketh to come to Keilah, to destroy the city for my sake.
11آیا مردم قعیله مرا به دست او تسلیم می کنند؟ آیا قراریکه بنده ات شنیده است، شائول به اینجا می آید؟ خداوندا، خدای اسرائیل، از تو تمنا می کنم که بنده ات را از همه چیز آگاه سازی.» خداوند فرمود: «بلی، او اینجا می آید.»
11Will the men of Keilah deliver me up into his hand? will Saul come down, as thy servant hath heard? O LORD God of Israel, I beseech thee, tell thy servant. And the LORD said, He will come down.
12داود پرسید: «آیا مردم قعیله مرا و همراهانم را به دست شائول تسلیم می کنند؟» خداوند جواب داد: «بلی می کنند.»
12Then said David, Will the men of Keilah deliver me and my men into the hand of Saul? And the LORD said, They will deliver thee up.
13آنگاه داود با مردان خود که تعداد شان در حدود ششصد نفر بود از قعیله حرکت کردند و شهر بشهر می گشتند. چون شائول خبر شد که داود فرار کرده است، از رفتن به قعیله دست کشید.
13Then David and his men, which were about six hundred, arose and departed out of Keilah, and went whithersoever they could go. And it was told Saul that David was escaped from Keilah; and he forbare to go forth.
14در وقتیکه داود در استحکامات بیابان در کوهستانات زیف زندگی می کرد، شائول همه روزه در جستجوی او بود، ولی خداوند نمی خواست که داود به دست شائول بیفتد.
14And David abode in the wilderness in strong holds, and remained in a mountain in the wilderness of Ziph. And Saul sought him every day, but God delivered him not into his hand.
15داود بخاطریکه شائول برای کشتن او آمده بود، بسیار می ترسید. داود در بیابان زیف در جنگل ساکن بود.
15And David saw that Saul was come out to seek his life: and David was in the wilderness of Ziph in a wood.
16در همان وقت یُوناتان، پسر شائول برای دیدن او در آنجا رفت و او را تشویق کرد که از محافظت مطمئن باشد.
16And Jonathan Saul's son arose, and went to David into the wood, and strengthened his hand in God.
17و به او گفت: «نترس! زیرا پدرم، شائول هرگز ترا یافته نمی تواند. تو به مقام سلطنت اسرائیل می رسی و من شخص دوم در دربار تو می شوم. پدرم هم اینرا می داند.»
17And he said unto him, Fear not: for the hand of Saul my father shall not find thee; and thou shalt be king over Israel, and I shall be next unto thee; and that also Saul my father knoweth.
18بعد آندو پیمان دوستی خود را تازه کردند و داود در جنگل ماند و یُوناتان به خانۀ خود برگشت.
18And they two made a covenant before the LORD: and David abode in the wood, and Jonathan went to his house.
19در عین زمان مردم زیف پیش شائول در جِبعَه رفتند و به گفتند: «ما می دانیم که داود در کجا پنهان شده است. او در استحکامات جنگل در کوهستان حَخیله بسر می برد.
19Then came up the Ziphites to Saul to Gibeah, saying, Doth not David hide himself with us in strong holds in the wood, in the hill of Hachilah, which is on the south of Jeshimon?
20پس ای پادشاه، با ما بیائید و ما وظیفۀ خود می دانیم که او را به دست تان تسلیم کنیم تا آرزوی دیرینۀ تان برآورده شود.»
20Now therefore, O king, come down according to all the desire of thy soul to come down; and our part shall be to deliver him into the king's hand.
21شائول گفت: «خداوند به شما برکت بدهد. می دانم که بر من مهربان و دلسوز هستید.
21And Saul said, Blessed be ye of the LORD; for ye have compassion on me.
22بروید زیادتر تحقیق کنید تا مطمئن شوم و پناهگاه دقیق او را معلوم کنید و بپرسید که چه کسی او را دیده است، زیرا شنیده ام که یک شخص بسیار حیله باز است.
22Go, I pray you, prepare yet, and know and see his place where his haunt is, and who hath seen him there: for it is told me that he dealeth very subtilly.
23وقتی مخفی گاه او را پیدا کردید، به من اطلاع بدهید بعد من همراه شما می روم و اگر در این سرزمین باشد در بین هزاران نفر او را پیدا می کنم.»
23See therefore, and take knowledge of all the lurking places where he hideth himself, and come ye again to me with the certainty, and I will go with you: and it shall come to pass, if he be in the land, that I will search him out throughout all the thousands of Judah.
24آنگاه همه برخاستند، پیش از شائول براه افتادند.
در این وقت داود و همراهان او در بیابان معون واقع در عربه در جنوب صحرا بودند.
24And they arose, and went to Ziph before Saul: but David and his men were in the wilderness of Maon, in the plain on the south of Jeshimon.
25شائول و مردان او به سراغ او رفتند. وقتی داود از آمدن شائول به زیف خبر شد، او و همراهانش در بیابان معون در جنوب صحرا دورتر رفتند. اما شائول در تعقیب او بود.
25Saul also and his men went to seek him. And they told David; wherefore he came down into a rock, and abode in the wilderness of Maon. And when Saul heard that, he pursued after David in the wilderness of Maon.
26حالا شائول در یک طرف کوه بود و داود در طرف دیگر آن. هرقدر که داود و همراهانش عجله می کردند که از شائول دورتر شوند، شائول و مردانش برای دستگیری آن ها نزدیکتر می شدند.
26And Saul went on this side of the mountain, and David and his men on that side of the mountain: and David made haste to get away for fear of Saul; for Saul and his men compassed David and his men round about to take them.
27در همین اثنا قاصدی آمد و به شائول گفت: «فوراً برو که فلسطینی ها به کشور حمله آورده اند.»
27But there came a messenger unto Saul, saying, Haste thee, and come; for the Philistines have invaded the land.
28بنابران، شائول دست از تعقیب داود کشید و برای مقابله با فلسطینی ها رفت. بیاد بود آنروز آنجا را «صخرۀ فرار» نامیدند.و داود از آنجا رفت و در استحکامات عین جَدی سکونت اختیار کرد.
28Wherefore Saul returned from pursuing after David, and went against the Philistines: therefore they called that place Selahammahlekoth.
29و داود از آنجا رفت و در استحکامات عین جَدی سکونت اختیار کرد.
29And David went up from thence, and dwelt in strong holds at Engedi.
