¹شائول از تهدید و کشتن پیروان خداوند به هیچ نحوی دست نمی کشید. او پیش کاهن اعظم رفت

¹And Saul, yet breathing out threatenings and slaughter against the disciples of the Lord, went unto the high priest,

²و تقاضای معرفی نامه هایی برای کنیسه های دمشق کرد تا چنانچه مرد یا زنی را از اهل طریقت پیدا کند آن ها را دستگیر کرده به اورشلیم آورد.

²And desired of him letters to Damascus to the synagogues, that if he found any of this way, whether they were men or women, he might bring them bound unto Jerusalem.

³شائول هنوز به دمشق نرسیده بود که ناگهان نزدیک شهر نوری از آسمان در اطراف او درخشید.

³And as he journeyed, he came near Damascus: and suddenly there shined round about him a light from heaven:

⁴او به زمین افتاد و صدایی شنید که می گفت: «ای شائول، شائول، چرا بر من جفا می کنی؟»

⁴And he fell to the earth, and heard a voice saying unto him, Saul, Saul, why persecutest thou me?

⁵شائول پرسید: «خداوندا تو کیستی؟» جواب آمد: «من عیسی هستم، همان کسی که تو بر او جفا میکنی،

⁵And he said, Who art thou, Lord? And the Lord said, I am Jesus whom thou persecutest: it is hard for thee to kick against the pricks.

⁶ولی برخیز و به شهر برو و در آنجا به تو گفته خواهد شد که چه باید بکنی.»

⁶And he trembling and astonished said, Lord, what wilt thou have me to do? And the Lord said unto him, Arise, and go into the city, and it shall be told thee what thou must do.

⁷دراین هنگام همسفران شائول خاموش ماندند زیرا اگرچه صدا را می شنیدند، ولی کسی را نمی دیدند.

⁷And the men which journeyed with him stood speechless, hearing a voice, but seeing no man.

⁸پس شائول از زمین برخاست و با اینکه چشمانش باز بود چیزی نمی دید. دستش را گرفتند و او را به دمشق هدایت کردند.

⁸And Saul arose from the earth; and when his eyes were opened, he saw no man: but they led him by the hand, and brought him into Damascus.

⁹در آنجا سه روز نابینا ماند و چیزی نخورد و ننوشید.

⁹And he was three days without sight, and neither did eat nor drink.

¹⁰یکی از ایمانداران به نام حنانیا در شهر دمشق زندگی می کرد. خداوند در حالت جذبه و یا رؤیا به او ظاهر شد و فرمود: «ای حنانیا.» او جواب داد: «بلی، ای خداوند، آماده ام.»

¹⁰And there was a certain disciple at Damascus, named Ananias; and to him said the Lord in a vision, Ananias. And he said, Behold, I am here, Lord.

¹¹خداوند فرمود: «برخیز و به کوچه ای که آنرا «راست» می نامند برو و در خانه یهودا سراغ شخصی به نام شائول طرسوسی را بگیر. او به دعا مشغول است

¹¹And the Lord said unto him, Arise, and go into the street which is called Straight, and enquire in the house of Judas for one called Saul, of Tarsus: for, behold, he prayeth,

¹²و در حالت رؤیا مردی را دیده است به نام حنانیا که می آید و بر او دست می گذارد و بینائی او را باز می گرداند.»

¹²And hath seen in a vision a man named Ananias coming in, and putting his hand on him, that he might receive his sight.

¹³حنانیا عرض کرد: «خداوندا دربارۀ این شخص و آنهمه آزار که او به قوم برگزیدۀ تو در اورشلیم رسانیده است، چیزهایی شنیده ام

¹³Then Ananias answered, Lord, I have heard by many of this man, how much evil he hath done to thy saints at Jerusalem:

¹⁴و حالا از طرف سران کاهنان اختیار یافته و به اینجا آمده است تا همه کسانی را که به تو روی می آوردند دستگیر کند.»

¹⁴And here he hath authority from the chief priests to bind all that call on thy name.

¹⁵اما خداوند به او گفت: «برو، زیرا این شخص وسیله ای است که من انتخاب کرده ام تا نام مرا به ملتها و پادشاهان آنها و قوم اسرائیل اعلام نماید.

¹⁵But the Lord said unto him, Go thy way: for he is a chosen vessel unto me, to bear my name before the Gentiles, and kings, and the children of Israel:

¹⁶خود من به او نشان خواهم داد که چه رنجهای بسیاری بخاطر نام من خواهد کشید.»

¹⁶For I will shew him how great things he must suffer for my name's sake.

¹⁷پس حنانیا رفت، داخل آن خانه شد و دست بر شائول گذاشت و گفت: «ای برادر، ای شائول، خداوند یعنی همان عیسی که بین راه به تو ظاهر شد، مرا فرستاده است تا تو بینائی خود را بازیابی و از روح القدس پُر گردی.»

¹⁷And Ananias went his way, and entered into the house; and putting his hands on him said, Brother Saul, the Lord, even Jesus, that appeared unto thee in the way as thou camest, hath sent me, that thou mightest receive thy sight, and be filled with the Holy Ghost.

¹⁸در همان لحظه چیزی مانند پوستک از چشمان شائول افتاد و بینائی خود را بازیافت و برخاسته تعمید گرفت.

¹⁸And immediately there fell from his eyes as it had been scales: and he received sight forthwith, and arose, and was baptized.

¹⁹بعد از آن غذا خورد و قوت گرفت.شائول مدتی در دمشق با ایمانداران بسر برد

¹⁹And when he had received meat, he was strengthened. Then was Saul certain days with the disciples which were at Damascus.

²⁰و طولی نکشید که در کنیسه های دمشق بطور آشکار اعلام می کرد که عیسی، پسر خداست.

²⁰And straightway he preached Christ in the synagogues, that he is the Son of God.

²¹هر کس سخنان او را می شنید در حیرت می افتاد و می گفت: «مگر این همان کسی نیست که در اورشلیم کسانی که نام عیسی را بر زبان می آوردند نابود می کرد؟ و آیا منظور او از آمدن به اینجا فقط این نیست که آنها را بگیرد و به دست سران کاهنان بسپارد؟»

²¹But all that heard him were amazed, and said; Is not this he that destroyed them which called on this name in Jerusalem, and came hither for that intent, that he might bring them bound unto the chief priests?

²²اما قدرت کلام شائول روز به روز بیشتر می شد و یهودیان دمشق را با دلایل انکار ناپذیر قانع می ساخت که عیسی، مسیح وعده شده است.

²²But Saul increased the more in strength, and confounded the Jews which dwelt at Damascus, proving that this is very Christ.

²³پس از مدتی یهودیان دسیسه ساختند تا او را بقتل برسانند.

²³And after that many days were fulfilled, the Jews took counsel to kill him:

²⁴اما شائول از نیت آنها با خبر شد. یهودیان حتی دروازه های شهر را شب و روز تحت نظر داشتند تا او را بکشند،

²⁴But their laying await was known of Saul. And they watched the gates day and night to kill him.

²⁵ولی شاگردان او شبانه او را در داخل سبدی گذاشتند و از دیوار شهر به پایین فرستادند.

²⁵Then the disciples took him by night, and let him down by the wall in a basket.

²⁶وقتی شائول به اورشلیم رسید کوشش نمود با دیگر شاگردان عیسی یکجا شود، اما آنها از او بیم داشتند زیرا قبول نمی کردند که او واقعاً پیرو عیسی شده باشد.

²⁶And when Saul was come to Jerusalem, he assayed to join himself to the disciples: but they were all afraid of him, and believed not that he was a disciple.

²⁷به هر حال برنابا او را گرفت و به حضور رسولان آورد و برای ایشان شرح داد که چگونه او در راه دمشق خداوند را دیده و چطور خداوند با او سخن گفته و به چه ترتیب شائول در دمشق با شجاعت به نام عیسی وعظ کرده است.

²⁷But Barnabas took him, and brought him to the apostles, and declared unto them how he had seen the Lord in the way, and that he had spoken to him, and how he had preached boldly at Damascus in the name of Jesus.

²⁸به این ترتیب شائول در اورشلیم با آنها رفت و آمد پیدا کرد و آشکارا بدون ترس به نام خداوند موعظه می کرد

²⁸And he was with them coming in and going out at Jerusalem.

²⁹و با یهودیان یونانی زبان مباحثه و گفتگو می نمود به طوری که آنها قصد جان او را داشتند.

²⁹And he spake boldly in the name of the Lord Jesus, and disputed against the Grecians: but they went about to slay him.

³⁰وقتی برادران از این مو ضوع آگاه شدند شائول را به قیصریه رسانیدند و او را روانه ترسوس کردند.

³⁰Which when the brethren knew, they brought him down to Caesarea, and sent him forth to Tarsus.

³¹به این ترتیب کلیسا در سراسر یهودیه و جلیل و سامره آرامش یافت. در حالیکه آنها در خدا ترسی و تقویت روح القدس بسر می بردند، کلیسا از لحاظ نیرو و تعداد رشد می کرد.

³¹Then had the churches rest throughout all Judaea and Galilee and Samaria, and were edified; and walking in the fear of the Lord, and in the comfort of the Holy Ghost, were multiplied.

³²پِترُس از همه جا دیدن می کرد و یکبار نیز به دیدن ایمانداران مقیم لُده رفت.

³²And it came to pass, as Peter passed throughout all quarters, he came down also to the saints which dwelt at Lydda.

³³در آنجا شخصی را به نام اینیاس که به مدت هشت سال شل و بستری بود دید.

³³And there he found a certain man named Aeneas, which had kept his bed eight years, and was sick of the palsy.

³⁴پِترُس به او گفت: «ای اینیاس، عیسی مسیح ترا شفا می بخشد. برخیز و رختخواب خود را جمع کن.» او فوراً از جا برخاست

³⁴And Peter said unto him, Aeneas, Jesus Christ maketh thee whole: arise, and make thy bed. And he arose immediately.

³⁵و جمیع ساکنان لُده و دشت شارون او را دیدند و به خداوند روی آوردند.

³⁵And all that dwelt at Lydda and Saron saw him, and turned to the Lord.

³⁶در یافا یکی از ایمانداران که زنی بنام طبیتا بود زندگی می کرد. (ترجمه یونانی نام او دورکاس به معنی آهو است.) این زن که بسیار نیکوکار و بخشنده بود

³⁶Now there was at Joppa a certain disciple named Tabitha, which by interpretation is called Dorcas: this woman was full of good works and almsdeeds which she did.

³⁷در این زمان بیمار شد و فوت کرد. او را شستند و در بالاخانه ای گذاشتند.

³⁷And it came to pass in those days, that she was sick, and died: whom when they had washed, they laid her in an upper chamber.

³⁸ایمانداران که شنیده بودند پِترُس در لُده است به سبب نزدیکی لُده به یافا دو نفر را پیش او فرستادند و تقاضا نمودند: «هر چه زودتر خود را به ما برسان.»

³⁸And forasmuch as Lydda was nigh to Joppa, and the disciples had heard that Peter was there, they sent unto him two men, desiring him that he would not delay to come to them.

³⁹پِترُس فوراً همرای آنها حرکت کرد و همینکه به آنجا رسید او را به آن بالاخانه بردند. بیوه زنان گریه کنان دور او را گرفتند و همه پیراهن ها و لباسهایی را که دورکاس در زمان حیات خود دوخته بود به او نشان دادند.

³⁹Then Peter arose and went with them. When he was come, they brought him into the upper chamber: and all the widows stood by him weeping, and shewing the coats and garments which Dorcas made, while she was with them.

⁴⁰پِترُس همه آنها را از اطاق بیرون کرد. سپس زانو زد و دعا نمود و رو به جسد کرده گفت: «ای طبیتا برخیز.» او چشمان خود را باز کرد و وقتی پِترُس را دید راست نشست.

⁴⁰But Peter put them all forth, and kneeled down, and prayed; and turning him to the body said, Tabitha, arise. And she opened her eyes: and when she saw Peter, she sat up.

⁴¹پِترُس دست خود را به او داد و او را روی پا بلند کرد. سپس مقدسین و بیوه زنان را صدا زد و او را زنده به ایشان سپرد.

⁴¹And he gave her his hand, and lifted her up, and when he had called the saints and widows, presented her alive.

⁴²این موضوع در سراسر یافا منتشر شد و بسیاری به خداوند ایمان آوردند.پِترُس روزهای زیادی در یافا ماند و با شمعونِ چرمگر زندگی می کرد.

⁴²And it was known throughout all Joppa; and many believed in the Lord.

⁴³And it came to pass, that he tarried many days in Joppa with one Simon a tanner.
