1سپس موسی و هارون به نزد فرعون رفتند و گفتند: «خداوند، خدای بنی اسرائیل، چنین می فرماید: بگذار قوم برگزیدۀ من به بیابان بروند تا مراسم عید را به احترام من بجا آورند.»
1And afterward Moses and Aaron went in, and told Pharaoh, Thus saith the LORD God of Israel, Let my people go, that they may hold a feast unto me in the wilderness.
2اما فرعون گفت: «خداوند کیست که من باید به سخنان او گوش بدهم و بنی اسرائیل را آزاد کنم؟ من خداوند را نمی شناسم و بنی اسرائیل را هم آزاد نمی کنم.»
2And Pharaoh said, Who is the LORD, that I should obey his voice to let Israel go? I know not the LORD, neither will I let Israel go.
3آن ها در جواب گفتند: «خدای عبرانیان خود را بر ما ظاهر کرده است. به ما اجازه بده که به یک سفر سه روزه به بیابان برویم تا برای خداوند، خدای خود قربانی کنیم. اگر ما این کار را نکنیم، او ما را بوسیلۀ مرض یا جنگ نابود خواهد کرد.»
3And they said, The God of the Hebrews hath met with us: let us go, we pray thee, three days' journey into the desert, and sacrifice unto the LORD our God; lest he fall upon us with pestilence, or with the sword.
4پادشاهِ مصر به موسی و هارون گفت: «چرا می خواهید مردم را از کار شان باز دارید؟ آن ها را سر کار شان برگردانید.
4And the king of Egypt said unto them, Wherefore do ye, Moses and Aaron, let the people from their works? get you unto your burdens.
5تعداد قوم شما زیاد شده است و حالا می خواهید از کار دست بکشید؟»
5And Pharaoh said, Behold, the people of the land now are many, and ye make them rest from their burdens.
6در همان روز فرعون به کارفرمایان مصری و ناظران عبرانی امر کرده گفت:
6And Pharaoh commanded the same day the taskmasters of the people, and their officers, saying,
7«دیگر برای خشت مالی به آن ها کاه ندهید و آن ها را مجبور سازید که خود شان کاه جمع کنند.
7Ye shall no more give the people straw to make brick, as heretofore: let them go and gather straw for themselves.
8تعداد خشت هایی هم که می مالند باید به اندازۀ گذشته باشد و حتی یک عدد هم کمتر نباشد، زیرا آن ها تنبلی می کنند و به خاطر همین است که می گویند می خواهیم برویم و برای خدای خود قربانی کنیم.
8And the tale of the bricks, which they did make heretofore, ye shall lay upon them; ye shall not diminish ought thereof: for they be idle; therefore they cry, saying, Let us go and sacrifice to our God.
9این مردم را چنان به کار مصروف سازید تا فرصتی برای شنیدن سخنان بیهوده نداشته باشند.»
9Let there more work be laid upon the men, that they may labor therein; and let them not regard vain words.
10پس کارفرمایان و ناظران رفتند و به بنی اسرائیل گفتند که فرعون چنین می گوید: «من دیگر کاه به شما نخواهم داد.
10And the taskmasters of the people went out, and their officers, and they spake to the people, saying, Thus saith Pharaoh, I will not give you straw.
11خودتان بروید و از هر کجا که می توانید کاه برای خود جمع کنید و تعداد خشتها نباید کمتر از پیشتر باشد.»
11Go ye, get you straw where ye can find it: yet not ought of your work shall be diminished.
12پس آن ها در سرتاسر مصر پراگنده شدند تا به جای کاه، خاشاک جمع کنند.
12So the people were scattered abroad throughout all the land of Egypt to gather stubble instead of straw.
13کارفرمایان مرتب بر آن ها فشار می آوردند که تعداد خشتها به اندازۀ سابق، یعنی وقتیکه کاه به آن ها داده می شد، باشد.
13And the taskmasters hasted them, saying, Fulfil your works, your daily tasks, as when there was straw.
14کارفرمایان مصری، ناظران اسرائیلی را می زدند که چرا تعداد خشت هائی که می سازند، به اندازۀ روزهای گذشته نیست.
14And the officers of the children of Israel, which Pharaoh's taskmasters had set over them, were beaten, and demanded, Wherefore have ye not fulfilled your task in making brick both yesterday and to day, as heretofore?
15پس ناظران عبرانی به نزد فرعون رفتند و گریه کنان از او تقاضای کمک کردند و گفتند: «چرا با غلامان خود اینطور رفتار می کنی؟
15Then the officers of the children of Israel came and cried unto Pharaoh, saying, Wherefore dealest thou thus with thy servants?
16کاه به غلامانت نمی دهند و می گویند که باید خشت بسازیم و مرتب ما را تازیانه می زنند در صورتی که تقصیر از کارفرمایان خودت می باشد.»
16There is no straw given unto thy servants, and they say to us, Make brick: and, behold, thy servants are beaten; but the fault is in thine own people.
17فرعون گفت: «شما تنبل هستید و نمی خواهید کار کنید. از این جهت است که می گوئید برویم و برای خداوند قربانی کنیم.
17But he said, Ye are idle, ye are idle: therefore ye say, Let us go and do sacrifice to the LORD.
18حالا به سر کار خود برگردید. کاه به شما داده نخواهد شد و تعداد خشت هایی هم که می سازید باید به اندازۀ سابق باشد.»
18Go therefore now, and work; for there shall no straw be given you, yet shall ye deliver the tale of bricks.
19وقتی به ناظران اسرائیلی گفته شد که تعداد خشت ها باید به اندازه روزهای قبل باشد، فهمیدند که در وضع بدی قرار دارند.
19And the officers of the children of Israel did see that they were in evil case, after it was said, Ye shall not minish ought from your bricks of your daily task.
20چون از نزد فرعون بیرون رفتند، دیدند که موسی و هارون منتظر آن ها ایستاده اند.
20And they met Moses and Aaron, who stood in the way, as they came forth from Pharaoh:
21پس به آن ها گفتند: «خداوند می داند که چه کار کرده اید و شما را مجازات خواهد کرد! زیرا شما بین ما و مأمورین فرعون دشمنی انداخته و بهانه ای به دست آن ها داده اید تا ما را بکشند.»
21And they said unto them, The LORD look upon you, and judge; because ye have made our savor to be abhorred in the eyes of Pharaoh, and in the eyes of his servants, to put a sword in their hand to slay us.
22پس موسی بار دیگر نزد خداوند برگشت و عرض کرد: «خداوندا، چرا با قوم برگزیدۀ خود بد رفتاری می کنی و چرا مرا فرستادی؟چون از وقتی که به نزد فرعون رفتم تا پیام تو را برسانم او با قوم من با ظلم و ستم رفتار می کند و تو هم هیچ کاری نمی کنی و به داد آن ها نمی رسی.»
22And Moses returned unto the LORD, and said, LORD, wherefore hast thou so evil entreated this people? why is it that thou hast sent me?
23چون از وقتی که به نزد فرعون رفتم تا پیام تو را برسانم او با قوم من با ظلم و ستم رفتار می کند و تو هم هیچ کاری نمی کنی و به داد آن ها نمی رسی.»
23For since I came to Pharaoh to speak in thy name, he hath done evil to this people; neither hast thou delivered thy people at all.
