1راحیل نازا بود و به خاطر همین به خواهر خود حسادت می ورزید. او به یعقوب گفت: «یا به من طفلی بده یا من می میرم.»
1And when Rachel saw that she bare Jacob no children, Rachel envied her sister; and said unto Jacob, Give me children, or else I die.
2یعقوب از دست راحیل عصبانی شد و گفت: «من نمی توانم جای خدا را بگیرم. اوست که ترا نازا ساخته است.»
2And Jacob's anger was kindled against Rachel: and he said, Am I in God's stead, who hath withheld from thee the fruit of the womb?
3راحیل گفت: «بیا و با کنیز من بلهه همبستر شو تا او بجای من طفلی بزاید و به این وسیله من مادر بشوم.»
3And she said, Behold my maid Bilhah, go in unto her; and she shall bear upon my knees, that I may also have children by her.
4پس او کنیز خود بلهه را به شوهر خود داد و یعقوب با او همبستر شد.
4And she gave him Bilhah her handmaid to wife: and Jacob went in unto her.
5بلهه حامله شد و برای یعقوب پسری زائید.
5And Bilhah conceived, and bare Jacob a son.
6راحیل گفت: «خدا حق من را داده و دعای مرا شنیده است. او به من پسری داده است.» پس اسم این پسر را دان گذاشت.
6And Rachel said, God hath judged me, and hath also heard my voice, and hath given me a son: therefore called she his name Dan.
7بلهه بار دیگر حامله شد و پسر دیگری برای یعقوب بدنیا آورد.
7And Bilhah Rachel's maid conceived again, and bare Jacob a second son.
8راحیل گفت: «من با خواهر خود مبارزۀ سختی کرده ام و پیروز شده ام»؛ بنا بر این اسم آن پسر را نفتالی گذاشت.
8And Rachel said, With great wrestlings have I wrestled with my sister, and I have prevailed: and she called his name Naphtali.
9اما لیه وقتی دید که دیگر نمی تواند صاحب فرزند شود، کنیز خود زلفه را به یعقوب داد.
9When Leah saw that she had left bearing, she took Zilpah her maid, and gave her Jacob to wife.
10پس زلفه پسری برای یعقوب زائید.
10And Zilpah Leah's maid bare Jacob a son.
11لیه گفت: «من سعادتمند شده ام»؛ پس اسم او را جاد گذاشت.
11And Leah said, A troop cometh: and she called his name Gad.
12زلفه برای یعقوب پسر دیگری زائید.
12And Zilpah Leah's maid bare Jacob a second son.
13لیه گفت: «من چقدر خوشحال هستم. دیگر همۀ زنان مرا خوشحال خواهند خواند.» پس اسم او را اَشیر گذاشت.
13And Leah said, Happy am I, for the daughters will call me blessed: and she called his name Asher.
14موقع درو گندم، رئوبین به مزرعه رفت. او مِهر گیاهی پیدا کرد و آنرا برای مادر خود لیه آورد. راحیل به لیه گفت: «خواهش می کنم مقداری از مِهر گیاه پسرت را به من بده.»
14And Reuben went in the days of wheat harvest, and found mandrakes in the field, and brought them unto his mother Leah. Then Rachel said to Leah, Give me, I pray thee, of thy son's mandrakes.
15لیه جواب داد: «آیا این کافی نیست که تو شوهر مرا تصاحب کرده ای؟ حالا هم کوشش می کنی که مِهر گیاه پسر مرا از من بگیری؟» راحیل گفت: «اگر مِهر گیاه پسرت را به من بدهی می توانی بجای آن امشب با یعقوب بخوابی.»
15And she said unto her, Is it a small matter that thou hast taken my husband? and wouldest thou take away my son's mandrakes also? And Rachel said, Therefore he shall lie with thee to night for thy son's mandrakes.
16وقت عصر بود، یعقوب از مزرعه می آمد. لیه به استقبال او رفت و گفت: «تو امشب باید با من بخوابی، زیرا من مِهر گیاه پسرم را برای این کار داده ام.» پس آن شب یعقوب با او خوابید.
16And Jacob came out of the field in the evening, and Leah went out to meet him, and said, Thou must come in unto me; for surely I have hired thee with my son's mandrakes. And he lay with her that night.
17خدا دعای لیه را مستجاب کرد و او حامله شد و پنجمین پسر خود را بدنیا آورد.
17And God hearkened unto Leah, and she conceived, and bare Jacob the fifth son.
18سپس لیه گفت: «خدا به من پاداش داده است. زیرا من کنیز خود را به شوهرم دادم.» پس او اسم پسرش را ایسَسکار گذاشت.
18And Leah said, God hath given me my hire, because I have given my maiden to my husband: and she called his name Issachar.
19لیه بار دیگر حامله شد و پسر ششم خود را برای یعقوب زائید.
19And Leah conceived again, and bare Jacob the sixth son.
20او گفت: «خدا هدیه ای عالی به من داده است. حالا دیگر مورد توجه شوهرم قرار می گیرم چون که شش پسر برای او زائیده ام.» پس نام او را زبولون گذاشت.
20And Leah said, God hath endued me with a good dowry; now will my husband dwell with me, because I have born him six sons: and she called his name Zebulun.
21بعد از آن دختری زائید و نامش را دینه گذاشت.
21And afterwards she bare a daughter, and called her name Dinah.
22خدا راحیل را به یاد آورد. دعای او را مستجاب کرد و به او فرزندی بخشید.
22And God remembered Rachel, and God hearkened to her, and opened her womb.
23او حامله شد و پسری زائید. راحیل گفت: «خدا پسری به من داده و به این وسیله ننگ مرا برطرف ساخته است.»
23And she conceived, and bare a son; and said, God hath taken away my reproach:
24بنابرین نام او را یوسف گذاشت و گفت: «خداوند پسر دیگری هم به من خواهد داد.»
24And she called his name Joseph; and said, The LORD shall add to me another son.
25بعد از تولد یوسف یعقوب به لابان گفت: «اجازه بده به وطن خود و به خانه ام برگردم.
25And it came to pass, when Rachel had born Joseph, that Jacob said unto Laban, Send me away, that I may go unto mine own place, and to my country.
26زنان و فرزندان مرا که به خاطر آن ها برای تو کار کرده ام به من بده تا از اینجا بروم. البته تو خوب می دانی که چطور به تو خدمت کرده ام.»
26Give me my wives and my children, for whom I have served thee, and let me go: for thou knowest my service which I have done thee.
27لابان به او گفت: «خواهش می کنم به حرف های من گوش کن: من فال گرفته ام و فهمیده ام که خداوند به خاطر تو مرا برکت داده است.
27And Laban said unto him, I pray thee, if I have found favor in thine eyes, tarry: for I have learned by experience that the LORD hath blessed me for thy sake.
28پس حالا بگو مزدت چقدر است تا به تو بدهم.»
28And he said, Appoint me thy wages, and I will give it.
29یعقوب جواب داد: «تو می دانی که من چطور برای تو کار کرده ام و چطور از گله های تو نگهبانی نموده ام.
29And he said unto him, Thou knowest how I have served thee, and how thy cattle was with me.
30وقتی من پیش تو آمدم اموال تو کم بود، ولی حالا زیاد شده است. خداوند به خاطر من تو را برکت داده است. حالا دیگر وقت آن است که من به فکر خودم باشم.»
30For it was little which thou hadst before I came, and it is now increased unto a multitude; and the LORD hath blessed thee since my coming: and now when shall I provide for mine own house also?
31لابان پرسید: «چه چیزی باید به تو بدهم؟» یعقوب جواب داد: «من هیچ مزدی نمی خواهم. اگر با پیشنهاد من موافق باشی من به کارم ادامه می دهم و از گله های تو نگهبانی می کنم.
31And he said, What shall I give thee? And Jacob said, Thou shalt not give me any thing: if thou wilt do this thing for me, I will again feed and keep thy flock.
32امروز به میان گله های تو می روم و تمام بره های سیاه و بزغاله های ابلق را بجای مزد خود جدا می کنم.
32I will pass through all thy flock to day, removing from thence all the speckled and spotted cattle, and all the brown cattle among the sheep, and the spotted and speckled among the goats: and of such shall be my hire.
33موقعی که بیائی تا آنچه را من به جای مزد خود بر می دارم ببینی به راحتی می توانی بفهمی که من با تو بی ریا و راست بوده ام. اگر گوسفندی که سیاه نباشد و یا بزی که ابلق نباشد پیش من دیدی، بدان که آنرا دزدیده ام.»
33So shall my righteousness answer for me in time to come, when it shall come for my hire before thy face: every one that is not speckled and spotted among the goats, and brown among the sheep, that shall be counted stolen with me.
34لابان گفت: «درست است. همان طور که گفتی قبول دارم.»
34And Laban said, Behold, I would it might be according to thy word.
35اما آن روز لابان تمام بز های نری که ابلق یا خالدار بودند و همچنین تمام بز های ماده ای که ابلق یا خالدار بودند و یا لکۀ سفید داشتند و همۀ گوسفندان سیاه را جدا کرد و به پسران خود داد تا آن ها را ببرند و از آن ها نگهبانی کنند.
35And he removed that day the he goats that were ring-streaked and spotted, and all the she goats that were speckled and spotted, and every one that had some white in it, and all the brown among the sheep, and gave them into the hand of his sons.
36او با این گله سه روز سفر کرد و تا آنجائی که می توانست از یعقوب دور شد. اما یعقوب از باقیماندۀ گله پاسبانی می کرد.
36And he set three days' journey betwixt himself and Jacob: and Jacob fed the rest of Laban's flocks.
37یعقوب شاخه های سبز درخت عرعر، بادام و چنار را برداشت و پوست آن ها را خط خط کرد تا سفیدی آن ها معلوم شود.
37And Jacob took him rods of green poplar, and of the hazel and chestnut tree; and pilled white streaks in them, and made the white appear which was in the rods.
38وقتی گله برای نوشیدن آب می آمد، او این شاخه ها را در آبخور آن ها می انداخت. زیرا حیوانات موقعی که برای نوشیدن آب می آمدند، جفت گیری می کردند.
38And he set the rods which he had pilled before the flocks in the gutters in the watering troughs when the flocks came to drink, that they should conceive when they came to drink.
39وقتی بزها در مقابل این شاخه ها حامله می شدند بزغاله های آن ها ابلق و خالدار به دنیا می آمدند.
39And the flocks conceived before the rods, and brought forth cattle ring-streaked, speckled, and spotted.
40یعقوب گوسفند ها را از بزها جدا می کرد و آن ها را در طرف دیگر در مقابل حیوانات ابلق و خالدار گلۀ لابان نگهداری می کرد. به این ترتیب او گلۀ خود را هر روزه زیاد می کرد و آن ها را از گلۀ لابان جدا نگهداری می کرد.
40And Jacob did separate the lambs, and set the faces of the flocks toward the ring-streaked, and all the brown in the flock of Laban; and he put his own flocks by themselves, and put them not unto Laban's cattle.
41موقعی که حیوانات قوی و سالم جفت گیری می کردند، یعقوب شاخه ها را در آبخور آن ها می گذاشت و آن ها در میان شاخه ها حامله می شدند.
41And it came to pass, whensoever the stronger cattle did conceive, that Jacob laid the rods before the eyes of the cattle in the gutters, that they might conceive among the rods.
42اما وقتی حیوانات ضعیف جفت گیری می کردند یعقوب شاخه ها را در آبخور آن ها نمی گذاشت. به این ترتیب حیوانات ضعیف به لابان می رسید و حیوانات قوی و سالم از یعقوب می شد.به این ترتیب یعقوب بسیار ثروتمند شد. او صاحب گله های بسیار شد، و غلامان و کنیزان و شتران و خر های بسیار داشت.
42But when the cattle were feeble, he put them not in: so the feebler were Laban's, and the stronger Jacob's.
43به این ترتیب یعقوب بسیار ثروتمند شد. او صاحب گله های بسیار شد، و غلامان و کنیزان و شتران و خر های بسیار داشت.
43And the man increased exceedingly, and had much cattle, and maidservants, and menservants, and camels, and asses.
