¹یعقوب شنید که پسران لابان می گویند: «تمام ثروت یعقوب مال پدر ما است. او تمام دارائی اش را از اموال پدر ما به دست آورده است.»

¹And he heard the words of Laban's sons, saying, Jacob hath taken away all that was our father's; and of that which was our father's hath he gotten all this glory.

²همچنین یعقوب دید که لابان دیگر مانند سابق با او دوست نیست.

²And Jacob beheld the countenance of Laban, and, behold, it was not toward him as before.

³سپس خداوند به او فرمود: «به سرزمین اجدادت یعنی جائی که در آن به دنیا آمدی برو. من با تو می باشم.»

³And the LORD said unto Jacob, Return unto the land of thy fathers, and to thy kindred; and I will be with thee.

⁴پس یعقوب برای راحیل و لیه پیغام فرستاد تا در مزرعه، جائی که گله ها هستند، پیش او بیایند.

⁴And Jacob sent and called Rachel and Leah to the field unto his flock,

⁵به آن ها گفت: «من فهمیده ام که پدر شما دیگر مثل سابق با من دوستانه رفتار نمی کند، ولی خدای پدرم با من بوده است.

⁵And said unto them, I see your father's countenance, that it is not toward me as before; but the God of my father hath been with me.

⁶هر دوی شما می دانید که من با همۀ قدرتم برای پدر شما کار کرده ام.

⁶And ye know that with all my power I have served your father.

⁷ولی پدر شما مرا فریب داده و تا به حال ده بار حق مرا تلف کرده است، ولی خدا نگذاشت که او به من صدمه ای بزند.

⁷And your father hath deceived me, and changed my wages ten times; but God suffered him not to hurt me.

⁸هر وقت لابان می گفت: «بز های ابلق اجرت تو باشد»، تمام گله، بزغاله های ابلق می زائیدند. وقتی می گفت: «بز های خالدار و خط خطی اجرت تو باشد»، تمام گله، بز های خالدار و خط خطی می زائیدند.

⁸If he said thus, The speckled shall be thy wages; then all the cattle bare speckled: and if he said thus, The ring-streaked shall be thy hire; then bare all the cattle ring-streaked.

⁹خدا گله های پدر شما را از او گرفته و به من داده است.

⁹Thus God hath taken away the cattle of your father, and given them to me.

¹⁰موقع جفت گیری گله ها خوابی دیدم. دیدم که بز های نری که جفت گیری می کنند. ابلق، خالدار و خط خطی هستند.

¹⁰And it came to pass at the time that the cattle conceived, that I lifted up mine eyes, and saw in a dream, and, behold, the rams which leaped upon the cattle were ring-streaked, speckled, and grizzled.

¹¹فرشتۀ خدا در خواب به من گفت: «یعقوب.» گفتم: «بلی.»

¹¹And the angel of God spake unto me in a dream, saying, Jacob: And I said, Here am I.

¹²او جواب داد: «ببین، تمام بز های نر که جفت گیری می کنند، ابلق، خالدار و خط خطی هستند. من این کار را کرده ام. زیرا تمام کارهای را که لابان با تو کرده است، دیده ام.

¹²And he said, Lift up now thine eyes, and see, all the rams which leap upon the cattle are ring-streaked, speckled, and grizzled: for I have seen all that Laban doeth unto thee.

¹³من همان خدائی هستم که در بیت ئیل بر تو ظاهر شدم. در جائی که یک ستون سنگی بعنوان یاد بود بنا کردی و روغن زیتون بر آن ریختی. همان جائی که آن را برای من وقف کردی. حالا حاضر شو و به سرزمینی که در آن به دنیا آمدی، برگرد.»»

¹³I am the God of Bethel, where thou anointedst the pillar, and where thou vowedst a vow unto me: now arise, get thee out from this land, and return unto the land of thy kindred.

¹⁴راحیل و لیه در جواب یعقوب گفتند: «از پدر ما ارثی برای ما نرسیده است.

¹⁴And Rachel and Leah answered and said unto him, Is there yet any portion or inheritance for us in our father's house?

¹⁵او با ما مثل بیگانه ها رفتار کرده است. ما را فروخته و پولی را که از این بابت به دست آورده است برای خود نگاهداشته است.

¹⁵Are we not counted of him strangers? for he hath sold us, and hath quite devoured also our money.

¹⁶تمام این ثروتی که خدا از پدر ما گرفته است، مال ما و اطفال ما است و هر چه خدا به تو گفته است انجام بده.»

¹⁶For all the riches which God hath taken from our father, that is ours, and our children's: now then, whatsoever God hath said unto thee, do.

¹⁷پس یعقوب تمام گله ها و چیزهای را که در بین النهرین به دست آورده بود جمع کرد. زنها و فرزندان خود را سوار شتر کرد و آماده شد تا به سرزمین پدری خود، یعنی کنعان برگردد.

¹⁷Then Jacob rose up, and set his sons and his wives upon camels;

¹⁸لابان رفته بود که پشم گوسفندان خود را بچیند. وقتی او نبود، راحیل بتهای را که در خانۀ پدرش بود دزدید.

¹⁸And he carried away all his cattle, and all his goods which he had gotten, the cattle of his getting, which he had gotten in Padanaram, for to go to Isaac his father in the land of Canaan.

¹⁹یعقوب، لابان را فریب داد و به او نگفت که می خواهد از آنجا برود.

¹⁹And Laban went to shear his sheep: and Rachel had stolen the images that were her father's.

²⁰او هر چه داشت جمع کرد و به عجله آنجا را ترک کرد. او از دریای فرات گذشت و به سمت تپه های جلعاد رفت.

²⁰And Jacob stole away unawares to Laban the Syrian, in that he told him not that he fled.

²¹بعد از سه روز به لابان خبر دادند که یعقوب فرار کرده است.

²¹So he fled with all that he had; and he rose up, and passed over the river, and set his face toward the mount Gilead.

²²او مردان خود را جمع کرد و به تعقیب یعقوب پرداخت. بالاخره بعد از هفت روز در تپه های جلعاد به او رسید.

²²And it was told Laban on the third day that Jacob was fled.

²³آن شب خدا در خواب به لابان ظاهر شد و به او فرمود: «هوش کنی که به یعقوب خوب یا بد نگوئی.»

²³And he took his brethren with him, and pursued after him seven days' journey; and they overtook him in the mount Gilead.

²⁴یعقوب در کوه خیمه زده بود. لابان و خویشاوندان او هم در تپه های جلعاد خیمه زدند.

²⁴And God came to Laban the Syrian in a dream by night, and said unto him, Take heed that thou speak not to Jacob either good or bad.

²⁵لابان به یعقوب گفت: «چرا مرا فریب دادی و دختران مرا مانند اسیران جنگی با خود بردی؟

²⁵Then Laban overtook Jacob. Now Jacob had pitched his tent in the mount: and Laban with his brethren pitched in the mount of Gilead.

²⁶چرا مرا فریب دادی و بی خبر فرار کردی؟ اگر به من خبر می دادی، با ساز و آواز برای خداحافظی می آمدم.

²⁶And Laban said to Jacob, What hast thou done, that thou hast stolen away unawares to me, and carried away my daughters, as captives taken with the sword?

²⁷تو حتی نگذاشتی که من نواسه ها و دختر هایم را ببوسم و با آن ها خداحافظی کنم. این کار تو احمقانه بود.

²⁷Wherefore didst thou flee away secretly, and steal away from me; and didst not tell me, that I might have sent thee away with mirth, and with songs, with tabret, and with harp?

²⁸من قدرت آنرا دارم که تو را جزا بدهم، اما دیشب خدای پدرت به من گفت که به تو چیزی نگویم.

²⁸And hast not suffered me to kiss my sons and my daughters? thou hast now done foolishly in so doing.

²⁹من می دانم تو علاقۀ زیادی داشتی که به وطنت برگردی. اما چرا بتهای مرا دزدیدی؟»

²⁹It is in the power of my hand to do you hurt: but the God of your father spake unto me yesternight, saying, Take thou heed that thou speak not to Jacob either good or bad.

³⁰یعقوب جواب داد: «من می ترسیدم که مبادا دختر هایت را با زور از من بگیری.

³⁰And now, though thou wouldest needs be gone, because thou sore longedst after thy father's house, yet wherefore hast thou stolen my gods?

³¹اما پیش هر کس که بُتهایت را پیدا کنی، آن شخص باید کشته شود. اینجا در حضور خویشاوندان ما جستجو کن و هر چه از اموال خودت را دیدی بردار.» یعقوب نمی دانست که راحیل بتها را دزدیده است.

³¹And Jacob answered and said to Laban, Because I was afraid: for I said, Peradventure thou wouldest take by force thy daughters from me.

³²لابان خیمه های یعقوب، لیه و کنیز های آن ها را جستجو کرد و چیزی پیدا نکرد. پس به خیمۀ راحیل رفت.

³²With whomsoever thou findest thy gods, let him not live: before our brethren discern thou what is thine with me, and take it to thee. For Jacob knew not that Rachel had stolen them.

³³راحیل بتها را زیر زین شتر پنهان کرده بود، و خودش هم روی آن نشسته بود. لابان تمام خیمۀ او را جستجو کرد، ولی آن ها را نیافت.

³³And Laban went into Jacob's tent, and into Leah's tent, and into the two maidservants' tents; but he found them not. Then went he out of Leah's tent, and entered into Rachel's tent.

³⁴راحیل به پدر خود گفت: «از من دلگیر نشو، چون که عادت ماهانۀ زنانگی دارم و نمی توانم در حضور تو بایستم.» لابان با وجود جستجوی زیاد نتوانست بتهای خود را پیدا کند.

³⁴Now Rachel had taken the images, and put them in the camel's furniture, and sat upon them. And Laban searched all the tent, but found them not.

³⁵آنگاه یعقوب قهر شد و با لابان جنگ و دعوا کرد و گفت: «چه خطایی از من سر زده است که تو اینطور مرا تعقیب کردی؟

³⁵And she said to her father, Let it not displease my lord that I cannot rise up before thee; for the custom of women is upon me. And he searched but found not the images.

³⁶تو تمام اموال مرا جستجو کردی. آیا چیزی از اسباب خانه ات را یافتی؟ هر چه پیدا کردی اینجا پیش خویشاوندان خودت و خویشاوندان من بگذار تا آن ها ببینند و بگویند حق با کدام یک از ما است.

³⁶And Jacob was wroth, and chode with Laban: and Jacob answered and said to Laban, What is my trespass? what is my sin, that thou hast so hotly pursued after me?

³⁷من مدت بیست سال با تو بودم. در این مدت حتی یکی از گوسفند ها و یا بز های تو نقصان نکرده است و من حتی یک میش از گلۀ تو برای خودم نگرفته ام.

³⁷Whereas thou hast searched all my stuff, what hast thou found of all thy household stuff? set it here before my brethren and thy brethren, that they may judge betwixt us both.

³⁸هرگز گوسفندی را که حیوان وحشی آنرا کشته بود پیش تو نیاوردم تا به تو نشان دهم، بلکه خودم عوض آنرا می دادم. تو آنهائی را که در شب و یا روز دزدیده می شدند، عوض آن ها را از من می گرفتی.

³⁸This twenty years have I been with thee; thy ewes and thy she goats have not cast their young, and the rams of thy flock have I not eaten.

³⁹بارها از گرمای روز و سرمای شب نزدیک بود از بین بروم و نمی توانستم بخوابم.

³⁹That which was torn of beasts I brought not unto thee; I bare the loss of it; of my hand didst thou require it, whether stolen by day, or stolen by night.

⁴⁰همین طور بیست سال تو را خدمت کردم. چهارده سال برای دو دخترت و شش سال برای گله ات. با وجود این تو ده مرتبه اجرت مرا تغییر دادی.

⁴⁰Thus I was; in the day the drought consumed me, and the frost by night; and my sleep departed from mine eyes.

⁴¹هرگاه خدای پدرانم، خدای ابراهیم و اسحاق با من نمی بود تو دست خالی مرا بیرون می کردی، ولی خدا زحمات مرا دیده است که چطور کار می کردم و دیشب تو را ملامت کرده است.»

⁴¹Thus have I been twenty years in thy house; I served thee fourteen years for thy two daughters, and six years for thy cattle: and thou hast changed my wages ten times.

⁴²لابان در جواب یعقوب گفت: «این دختران، دختران من و اطفال آن ها اطفال من و این گله هم گلۀ من است. در حقیقت هر چه که اینجا می بینی مال من است. اما چون نمی توانم دختر هایم و اطفال آن ها را از تو بگیرم،

⁴²Except the God of my father, the God of Abraham, and the fear of Isaac, had been with me, surely thou hadst sent me away now empty. God hath seen mine affliction and the labor of my hands, and rebuked thee yesternight.

⁴³حاضرم با تو پیمان ببندم. پس بیا تا یک ستون سنگی درست کنیم تا نشانۀ پیمان ما باشد.»

⁴³And Laban answered and said unto Jacob, These daughters are my daughters, and these children are my children, and these cattle are my cattle, and all that thou seest is mine: and what can I do this day unto these my daughters, or unto their children which they have born?

⁴⁴پس یعقوب سنگی را برداشت و آنرا به عنوان یاد بود در آنجا گذاشت.

⁴⁴Now therefore come thou, let us make a covenant, I and thou; and let it be for a witness between me and thee.

⁴⁵او به خویشاوندان خود امر کرد تا چند تخته سنگ بیاورند و روی هم بگذارند. بعد از آن در کنار آن تخته سنگ ها با هم غذا خوردند.

⁴⁵And Jacob took a stone, and set it up for a pillar.

⁴⁶لابان نام آنجا را «یجرسهدوتا» گذاشت، ولی یعقوب آنجا را «جلعید» نامید.

⁴⁶And Jacob said unto his brethren, Gather stones; and they took stones, and made an heap: and they did eat there upon the heap.

⁴⁷لابان به یعقوب گفت: «این ستون از امروز بین من و تو شاهد است.» به این سبب است که نام آنجا را جلعید گذاشتند.

⁴⁷And Laban called it Jegarsahadutha: but Jacob called it Galeed.

⁴⁸لابان همچنین گفت: «وقتی ما از یکدیگر جدا می شویم خداوند ناظر هردوی ما است.» پس آنجا را مِصفه (یعنی برج دیده بانی) هم نامیدند.

⁴⁸And Laban said, This heap is a witness between me and thee this day. Therefore was the name of it called Galeed;

⁴⁹لابان به سخنان خود ادامه داد و گفت: «اگر دختر های مرا اذیت کنی و یا بغیر از آن ها زن دیگری بگیری، هر چند که من ندانم، ولی بدان که خدا بین ما ناظر است.

⁴⁹And Mizpah; for he said, The LORD watch between me and thee, when we are absent one from another.

⁵⁰این تودۀ سنگ و این ستونی که بین ما است،

⁵⁰If thou shalt afflict my daughters, or if thou shalt take other wives beside my daughters, no man is with us; see, God is witness betwixt me and thee.

⁵¹هر دو شاهد پیمان ما خواهند بود. من هرگز از این ستون نمی گذرم تا به تو حمله کنم و تو هم هرگز از این ستون و یا تودۀ سنگ برای حمله به من عبور نمی کنی.

⁵¹And Laban said to Jacob, Behold this heap, and behold this pillar, which I have cast betwixt me and thee:

⁵²خدای ابراهیم و خدای ناحور بین ما قضاوت می کند.» سپس یعقوب به نام خدائی که پدرش اسحاق او را پرستش می کرد قسم یاد کرد که این پیمان را حفظ کند.

⁵²This heap be witness, and this pillar be witness, that I will not pass over this heap to thee, and that thou shalt not pass over this heap and this pillar unto me, for harm.

⁵³آنگاه یعقوب بالای آن کوه قربانی کرد و همراهان خود را برای غذا خوردن دعوت کرد. بعد از خوردن غذا آن ها شب را در کوه بسر بردند.روز بعد صبح وقت، لابان نواسه ها و دختر های خود را بوسید و برای آن ها دعای خیر کرد و به طرف خانۀ خود رفت.

⁵³The God of Abraham, and the God of Nahor, the God of their father, judge betwixt us. And Jacob sware by the fear of his father Isaac.

⁵⁴روز بعد صبح وقت، لابان نواسه ها و دختر های خود را بوسید و برای آن ها دعای خیر کرد و به طرف خانۀ خود رفت.

⁵⁴Then Jacob offered sacrifice upon the mount, and called his brethren to eat bread: and they did eat bread, and tarried all night in the mount.

⁵⁵And early in the morning Laban rose up, and kissed his sons and his daughters, and blessed them: and Laban departed, and returned unto his place.
