¹خداوند می فرماید: «ای بابل، از تخت پائین شو و بر زمین روی خاک بنشین، زیرا تو دیگر آن دختر باکرۀ زیبا و لطیف نیستی.

¹Come down, and sit in the dust, O virgin daughter of Babylon, sit on the ground: there is no throne, O daughter of the Chaldeans: for thou shalt no more be called tender and delicate.

²حالا دستاس را بگیر و گندم را آرد کن. روبند را از رو بردار، دامن به کمر زن، ساقها را برهنه کن و از دریاها بگذر.

²Take the millstones, and grind meal: uncover thy locks, make bare the leg, uncover the thigh, pass over the rivers.

³تو برهنه و رسوا می شوی. من از تو انتقام می گیرم و رحم نمی کنم.»

³Thy nakedness shall be uncovered, yea, thy shame shall be seen: I will take vengeance, and I will not meet thee as a man.

⁴خدا قدوس اسرائیل که نام او خداوند قادر مطلق است، ما را نجات می دهد.

⁴As for our redeemer, the LORD of hosts is his name, the Holy One of Israel.

⁵خداوند به بابل می فرماید: «در تاریکی برو و خاموش بنشین، زیرا تو دیگر ملکۀ سلطنت ها خوانده نمی شوی.

⁵Sit thou silent, and get thee into darkness, O daughter of the Chaldeans: for thou shalt no more be called, The lady of kingdoms.

⁶من بر قوم برگزیدۀ خود خشمگین بودم و برای اینکه آن ها را سرزنش کنم، همه را به دست تو تسلیم کردم. اما تو بر آن ها رحم نکردی و حتی بر گردن اشخاص موسفید یوغ بسیار سنگین را گذاشتی.

⁶I was wroth with my people, I have polluted mine inheritance, and given them into thine hand: thou didst shew them no mercy; upon the ancient hast thou very heavily laid thy yoke.

⁷تو فکر می کردی که برای همیشه ملکه خواهی بود و هیچ وقت به عاقبت کار نیندیشیدی.

⁷And thou saidst, I shall be a lady for ever: so that thou didst not lay these things to thy heart, neither didst remember the latter end of it.

⁸پس ای کشوری که در عیش و عشرت بسر می بری و فکر می کنی که در امان هستی، بشنو. تو در دلت می گوئی: «مثل من کس دیگری نیست، بیوه نمی شوم و فرزندانم را از دست نمی دهم.»

⁸Therefore hear now this, thou that art given to pleasures, that dwellest carelessly, that sayest in thine heart, I am, and none else beside me; I shall not sit as a widow, neither shall I know the loss of children:

⁹اما بدان که با وجود جادوگری هایت و قدرتی که در افسونگری داری، در یک لحظه و در یک روز هر دو بلا با تمام قدرت بر سرت می آید، یعنی هم بیوه می شوی و هم فرزندانت را از دست می دهی.

⁹But these two things shall come to thee in a moment in one day, the loss of children, and widowhood: they shall come upon thee in their perfection for the multitude of thy sorceries, and for the great abundance of thine enchantments.

¹⁰تو با اعتماد کامل به شرارت خود ادامه دادی و خیال کردی که هیچ کسی ترا نمی بیند. علم و حکمت تو، ترا گمراه ساخت و در دلت گفتی: «من یگانه کسی هستم و شخص دیگر مثل من وجود ندارد.»

¹⁰For thou hast trusted in thy wickedness: thou hast said, None seeth me. Thy wisdom and thy knowledge, it hath perverted thee; and thou hast said in thine heart, I am, and none else beside me.

¹¹اما مصیبت و بلائی را که بر سرت آمدنی است، نمی توانی با جادو و افسون رد کنی. و یک ویرانی غیر منتظره که هرگز به فکر آن نبوده ای، بالایت آمدنی است.

¹¹Therefore shall evil come upon thee; thou shalt not know from whence it riseth: and mischief shall fall upon thee; thou shalt not be able to put it off: and desolation shall come upon thee suddenly, which thou shalt not know.

¹²به جادوگری و کارهای سحرآمیزت که از طفولیت شیوۀ کارت بود، ادامه بده، تا شاید در این عمل موفق شوی و دشمنانت را دچار ترس و وحشت کنی.

¹²Stand now with thine enchantments, and with the multitude of thy sorceries, wherein thou hast laboured from thy youth; if so be thou shalt be able to profit, if so be thou mayest prevail.

¹³تو ستاره شناسان و رمالان زیادی داری که به تو مشوره می دهند و از واقعات آینده ترا آگاه می سازند، پس از آن ها کمک بطلب تا ترا نجات بخشند.

¹³Thou art wearied in the multitude of thy counsels. Let now the astrologers, the stargazers, the monthly prognosticators, stand up, and save thee from these things that shall come upon thee.

¹⁴اما بدان که آن ها مثل کاه در آتش خواهند سوخت و حتی قدرت آنرا نخواهند داشت که خود را از شعله های آتش نجات بدهند، زیرا آن آتش برای شان خیلی سوزنده است و برای گرم کردن نیست.چیزی که از دست آن ها بر می آید همین است و بس. آن ها که از طفولیت به تو مشوره می دادند، به راه خود می روند و ترا نجات داده نمی توانند.»

¹⁴Behold, they shall be as stubble; the fire shall burn them; they shall not deliver themselves from the power of the flame: there shall not be a coal to warm at, nor fire to sit before it.

¹⁵چیزی که از دست آن ها بر می آید همین است و بس. آن ها که از طفولیت به تو مشوره می دادند، به راه خود می روند و ترا نجات داده نمی توانند.»

¹⁵Thus shall they be unto thee with whom thou hast laboured, even thy merchants, from thy youth: they shall wander every one to his quarter; none shall save thee.
