¹ای مردم بنیامین، برای حفاظت جان تان از اورشلیم فرار کنید. در شهر تَقوع زنگ خطر را بنوازید و در بیت هَکارِیم علامه های خطر را قرار دهید، زیرا بلا و ویرانی عظیمی از جانب شمال به این طرف می آید.

¹O ye children of Benjamin, gather yourselves to flee out of the midst of Jerusalem, and blow the trumpet in Tekoa, and set up a sign of fire in Bethhaccerem: for evil appeareth out of the north, and great destruction.

²من دختر سهیون را که مثل دختری زیبا و قشنگ است، نابود می سازم.

²I have likened the daughter of Zion to a comely and delicate woman.

³پادشاهان با لشکر خود می آیند و به هر جائی که بخواهند خیمه می زنند.

³The shepherds with their flocks shall come unto her; they shall pitch their tents against her round about; they shall feed every one in his place.

⁴برای حمله به اورشلیم آماده می شوند و می خواهند هنگام ظهر جنگ را شروع کنند. اما می گویند: «حالا ناوقت شده است، زیرا روز به زودی بپایان می رسد و تاریکی دنیا را فرا می گیرد.

⁴Prepare ye war against her; arise, and let us go up at noon. Woe unto us! for the day goeth away, for the shadows of the evening are stretched out.

⁵بیائید در تاریکی شب حمله کنیم و همه قصرهایش را ویران نمائیم.»

⁵Arise, and let us go by night, and let us destroy her palaces.

⁶خداوند قادر مطلق می فرماید: «درختانش را قطع کنید و با آن ها در مقابل اورشلیم سنگر بسازید. این شهر باید به جزا برسد، زیرا در آنجا بغیر از ظلم و فساد چیز دیگری دیده نمی شود.

⁶For thus hath the LORD of hosts said, Hew ye down trees, and cast a mount against Jerusalem: this is the city to be visited; she is wholly oppression in the midst of her.

⁷همانطوریکه آب از چشمه فوران می کند، از این شهر هم شرارت بر می خیزد. فریاد ظلم و ستم از هر گوشه و کنار آن شنیده می شود و مرض و جراحت همیشه در مقابل چشمانم می باشد.

⁷As a fountain casteth out her waters, so she casteth out her wickedness: violence and spoil is heard in her; before me continually is grief and wounds.

⁸ای مردم اورشلیم، از این حوادث درس عبرت بگیرید، ورنه من از شما بیزار شده شهر تان را ویران و غیر مسکون می سازم.»

⁸Be thou instructed, O Jerusalem, lest my soul depart from thee; lest I make thee desolate, a land not inhabited.

⁹خداوند قادر مطلق به من چنین فرمود: «مثل تاک که خوشه هایش چیده می شوند، مردم اسرائیل را هم می چینند. پس تا که هنوز فرصت داری آنهائی را که باقی مانده اند نجات بده.»

⁹Thus saith the LORD of hosts, They shall throughly glean the remnant of Israel as a vine: turn back thine hand as a grapegatherer into the baskets.

¹⁰من جواب دادم: «چه کسی به سخنان و اخطارهای من گوش می دهد؟ گوشهای شان بسته اند و نمی توانند بشنوند. از کلام تو عار دارند و به آن علاقه ای نشان نمی دهند.

¹⁰To whom shall I speak, and give warning, that they may hear? behold, their ear is uncircumcised, and they cannot hearken: behold, the word of the LORD is unto them a reproach; they have no delight in it.

¹¹از خشم تو دلم جوش می زند و دیگر طاقت و آرام ندارم.» خداوند به من فرمود: «خشم خود را در کوچه ها بر سر کودکان، بر مجلس جوانان، بر زن و شوهر و بر مو سفیدان می ریزم.

¹¹Therefore I am full of the fury of the LORD; I am weary with holding in: I will pour it out upon the children abroad, and upon the assembly of young men together: for even the husband with the wife shall be taken, the aged with him that is full of days.

¹²خانه ها، مزارع و زنهای شان به دیگران تعلق می گیرند، زیرا من مردم این سرزمین را جزا می دهم.

¹²And their houses shall be turned unto others, with their fields and wives together: for I will stretch out my hand upon the inhabitants of the land, saith the LORD.

¹³همگی از خورد تا بزرگ، حریص هستند. حتی انبیاء و کاهنان هم فریبکارند.

¹³For from the least of them even unto the greatest of them every one is given to covetousness; and from the prophet even unto the priest every one dealeth falsely.

¹⁴جراحات قوم مرا سطحی دانسته، آن ها را بدرستی مداوا نمی کنند و وعدۀ سلامتی می دهند، در حالیکه سلامتی وجود ندارد.

¹⁴They have healed also the hurt of the daughter of my people slightly, saying, Peace, peace; when there is no peace.

¹⁵آن ها با بیشرمی مرتکب کارهای زشت شدند اما خجالت نکشیدند و حیا نکردند، بنابران، آن ها به سرنوشت کشته شدگان دچار می شوند و جزای آن ها مرگ است.»

¹⁵Were they ashamed when they had committed abomination? nay, they were not at all ashamed, neither could they blush: therefore they shall fall among them that fall: at the time that I visit them they shall be cast down, saith the LORD.

¹⁶خداوند چنین می فرماید: «بر سر چهارراهی بایستید و بپرسید که راه راست، یعنی راه خوبی که گذشتگان در آن قدم می زدند، کدام است، تا شما هم در آن راه بروید و جان سالم بدر برید. اما شما می گوئید: «نه، ما آن راه را دنبال نمی کنیم.»

¹⁶Thus saith the LORD, Stand ye in the ways, and see, and ask for the old paths, where is the good way, and walk therein, and ye shall find rest for your souls. But they said, We will not walk therein.

¹⁷من بر شما نگهبانانی را مقرر کردم و شما را متوجه زنگ خطر ساختم، ولی شما اعتنا نکردید.

¹⁷Also I set watchmen over you, saying, Hearken to the sound of the trumpet. But they said, We will not hearken.

¹⁸پس ای قوم ها بشنوید و ای جماعتها ببینید که بر سر آن ها چه بلائی می آید.

¹⁸Therefore hear, ye nations, and know, O congregation, what is among them.

¹⁹ای زمین گوش بده؛ من بلائی را بر سر این مردم می آورم که ثمرۀ خیالات خود شان است. آن ها به کلام من توجه نکردند و تعلیمات مرا رد نمودند.

¹⁹Hear, O earth: behold, I will bring evil upon this people, even the fruit of their thoughts, because they have not hearkened unto my words, nor to my law, but rejected it.

²⁰پس چه فایده دارد که از سرزمین سبا برای من بخور بیاورید و یا از کشورهای دور عطرهای قیمتی. هدیه های سوختنی شما را نمی پذیرم و قربانی های تان را قبول نمی کنم.»

²⁰To what purpose cometh there to me incense from Sheba, and the sweet cane from a far country? your burnt offerings are not acceptable, nor your sacrifices sweet unto me.

²¹بنابران، خداوند می فرماید: «من بر سر راه این مردم سنگهای لغزنده قرار می دهم تا والدین با فرزندان و همسایگان و دوستان شان یکجا بلغزند و هلاک شوند.»

²¹Therefore thus saith the LORD, Behold, I will lay stumblingblocks before this people, and the fathers and the sons together shall fall upon them; the neighbour and his friend shall perish.

²²خداوند چنین می فرماید: «ببینید، لشکری از سمت شمال می آید و قوم نیرومندی از دورترین نقطۀ دنیا برای جنگ شما برخاسته است.

²²Thus saith the LORD, Behold, a people cometh from the north country, and a great nation shall be raised from the sides of the earth.

²³آن ها با کمان و نیزه مسلح بوده همگی افراد سنگدل و بیرحم اند. همه جنگجویانِ اسپ سوار هستند و صدای شان مانند غرش بحر است و برای جنگ با اورشلیم آماده می باشند.»

²³They shall lay hold on bow and spear; they are cruel, and have no mercy; their voice roareth like the sea; and they ride upon horses, set in array as men for war against thee, O daughter of Zion.

²⁴مردم اورشلیم می گویند: «ما آوازۀ آن ها را شنیده ایم و از ترس، دستهای ما لرزید. مانند زنی که در حال زایمان باشد، درد و وحشت ما را فرا گرفت.

²⁴We have heard the fame thereof: our hands wax feeble: anguish hath taken hold of us, and pain, as of a woman in travail.

²⁵ما جرأت نکردیم که به صحرا برویم و یا در جاده ها قدم بزنیم، زیرا دشمن شمشیر به دست دارد و ترس و خوف در همه جا است.»

²⁵Go not forth into the field, nor walk by the way; for the sword of the enemy and fear is on every side.

²⁶خداوند می فرماید: «ای قوم برگزیدۀ من، لباس ماتم بپوشید و بر خاکستر بنشینید؛ مثل کسی که در مرگ یگانه پسر خود عُزا می گیرد، گریه و نوحه را سر بدهید، زیرا تاراجگران ناگهان بر سر تان هجوم می آورند.

²⁶O daughter of my people, gird thee with sackcloth, and wallow thyself in ashes: make thee mourning, as for an only son, most bitter lamentation: for the spoiler shall suddenly come upon us.

²⁷ای ارمیا، همانطوریکه فلز را می آزمایند، تو هم قوم برگزیدۀ مرا امتحان کن تا رفتار و کردار آن ها برایت معلوم شود.

²⁷I have set thee for a tower and a fortress among my people, that thou mayest know and try their way.

²⁸آن ها همه سرسخت و سرکش شده بدگوئی می کنند و دلهای شان مانند آهن و برنج سخت گردیده و اعمال شان گناه آلود است.

²⁸They are all grievous revolters, walking with slanders: they are brass and iron; they are all corrupters.

²⁹آهن با دَم آهنگر در کوره ذوب و تصفیه می شود، اما قوم برگزیده و سرسخت من تصفیه شدنی نیست و مردم شریر از آن ها جدائی ندارند.آن ها نقرۀ ناخالص هستند، زیرا من آن ها را ترک کرده ام.»

²⁹The bellows are burned, the lead is consumed of the fire; the founder melteth in vain: for the wicked are not plucked away.

³⁰آن ها نقرۀ ناخالص هستند، زیرا من آن ها را ترک کرده ام.»

³⁰Reprobate silver shall men call them, because the LORD hath rejected them.
