¹خداوند به ارمیا فرمود:

¹The word that came to Jeremiah from the LORD, saying,

²«به دَم دروازۀ عبادتگاه بایست این پیام را به مردم اعلام کن: ای مردم یهودا و ای کسانی که در خانۀ خداوند برای عبادت وارد می شوید،

²Stand in the gate of the LORD's house, and proclaim there this word, and say, Hear the word of the LORD, all ye of Judah, that enter in at these gates to worship the LORD.

³به کلام خداوند قادر مطلق، خدای اسرائیل گوش بدهید که می فرماید: روش و کردار تان را اصلاح کنید، آنگاه من به شما موقع می دهم تا در اینجا ساکن باشید.

³Thus saith the LORD of hosts, the God of Israel, Amend your ways and your doings, and I will cause you to dwell in this place.

⁴فریب سخنان دروغ را نخورید که می گویند: «عبادتگاه خداوند، عبادتگاه خداوند، عبادتگاه خداوند این است.»

⁴Trust ye not in lying words, saying, The temple of the LORD, The temple of the LORD, The temple of the LORD, are these.

⁵اگر براستی رفتار و کردار تان را تغییر بدهید، از روی انصاف با یکدیگر معامله کنید،

⁵For if ye throughly amend your ways and your doings; if ye throughly execute judgment between a man and his neighbour;

⁶به بیگانگان و یتیمان و بیوه زنان ظلم ننمائید، خون بیگناهان را نریزید و از پیروی خدایان دیگر که بجز ضرر و زیان، فایدۀ دیگری برای تان ندارد، دست بردارید،

⁶If ye oppress not the stranger, the fatherless, and the widow, and shed not innocent blood in this place, neither walk after other gods to your hurt:

⁷آنوقت من به شما اجازه می دهم در این سرزمینی که به اجداد شما برای همیشه بخشیده ام ساکن باشید.

⁷Then will I cause you to dwell in this place, in the land that I gave to your fathers, for ever and ever.

⁸اما شما به سخنان دروغ که منفعتی برای تان ندارد، اتکاء می کنید.

⁸Behold, ye trust in lying words, that cannot profit.

⁹دست به دزدی می زنید، مرتکب قتل و زنا می شوید، قسم دروغ می خورید، به بتِ بعل هدیه تقدیم می کنید و خدایان بیگانه را که نمی شناسید، می پرستید.

⁹Will ye steal, murder, and commit adultery, and swear falsely, and burn incense unto Baal, and walk after other gods whom ye know not;

¹⁰بعد به این خانه که به نام من یاد می شود، می آئید و در حضور من می ایستید و می گوئید: «ما محفوظ و در امان هستیم!» باز می روید دوباره به همان اعمال زشت دست می زنید.

¹⁰And come and stand before me in this house, which is called by my name, and say, We are delivered to do all these abominations?

¹¹آیا این خانه ای که به اسم من نامیده می شود در نظر شما مخفی گاه دزدان است؟ بدانید که من ناظر همه اعمال شما هستم.

¹¹Is this house, which is called by my name, become a den of robbers in your eyes? Behold, even I have seen it, saith the LORD.

¹²به شهر شیلوه که در آنجا اولین عبادتگاه من واقع بود، بروید و ببینید که بخاطر شرارت مردم اسرائیل با آن چه کردم.

¹²But go ye now unto my place which was in Shiloh, where I set my name at the first, and see what I did to it for the wickedness of my people Israel.

¹³حالا با وجودیکه مرتب با شما سخن گفتم و هُشدار دادم، شما نشنیدید. شما را فراخواندم، اما جواب ندادید و همچنان به کارهای زشت تان ادامه دادید.

¹³And now, because ye have done all these works, saith the LORD, and I spake unto you, rising up early and speaking, but ye heard not; and I called you, but ye answered not;

¹⁴بنابران، من بر سر این عبادتگاه که به نام من یاد می شود، یعنی همین جائی که به پدران تان دادم و شما به آن دل بسته اید، همان بلائی را می آورم که بر سر شیلوه آوردم.

¹⁴Therefore will I do unto this house, which is called by my name, wherein ye trust, and unto the place which I gave to you and to your fathers, as I have done to Shiloh.

¹⁵و همانطوریکه برادران افرایمی شما را از حضور خود راندم، شما را هم می رانم.»

¹⁵And I will cast you out of my sight, as I have cast out all your brethren, even the whole seed of Ephraim.

¹⁶پس تو ای ارمیا، دیگر برای این مردم دعا نکن، بخاطر آن ها گریه و زاری مکن و پیش من از آن ها شفاعت منما، زیرا من قبول نمی کنم.

¹⁶Therefore pray not thou for this people, neither lift up cry nor prayer for them, neither make intercession to me: for I will not hear thee.

¹⁷مگر نمی بینی که آن ها در شهرهای یهودا و کوچه های اورشلیم به چه کارهائی دست می زنند؟

¹⁷Seest thou not what they do in the cities of Judah and in the streets of Jerusalem?

¹⁸کودکان هیزم جمع می کنند، پدران شان آتش می افروزند، زنها خمیر می کنند و برای ملکۀ آسمان نان می پزند و برای خدایان دیگر هدایای نوشیدنی تقدیم می کنند و مرا خشمگین می سازند.

¹⁸The children gather wood, and the fathers kindle the fire, and the women knead their dough, to make cakes to the queen of heaven, and to pour out drink offerings unto other gods, that they may provoke me to anger.

¹⁹آیا این کارهای شان ضرری به من می رساند؟ نه، آن ها فقط به خود لطمه می زنند و خود را رسوا می سازند.

¹⁹Do they provoke me to anger? saith the LORD: do they not provoke themselves to the confusion of their own faces?

²⁰بنابران من، خداوند متعال، با آتش خشم و غضب خود این خانه را با انسان، حیوان، درختان، کشتزارها و محصولات زمین می سوزانم و هیچ کسی نمی تواند آن را خاموش سازد.

²⁰Therefore thus saith the Lord GOD; Behold, mine anger and my fury shall be poured out upon this place, upon man, and upon beast, and upon the trees of the field, and upon the fruit of the ground; and it shall burn, and shall not be quenched.

²¹خداوند قادر مطلق، خدای اسرائیل چنین می فرماید: «هدیه های سوختنی را با قربانی های تان یکجا کرده همه را بخورید،

²¹Thus saith the LORD of hosts, the God of Israel; Put your burnt offerings unto your sacrifices, and eat flesh.

²²زیرا روزی که اجداد شما را از مصر بیرون آوردم و با آن ها سخن گفتم و احکام خود را به آن ها دادم، از آن ها نخواستم که برای من هدیه و قربانی بیاورند،

²²For I spake not unto your fathers, nor commanded them in the day that I brought them out of the land of Egypt, concerning burnt offerings or sacrifices:

²³اما امر کردم که از احکام من پیروی کنند تا من خدای شان باشم و آن ها قوم برگزیدۀ من. و فقط راهی را که من نشان می دهم دنبال نمایند تا خیر و خوبی ببینند.

²³But this thing commanded I them, saying, Obey my voice, and I will be your God, and ye shall be my people: and walk ye in all the ways that I have commanded you, that it may be well unto you.

²⁴اما آن ها از امر من اطاعت نکردند و به کلام من گوش ندادند، بلکه با سرسختی به راه خود رفتند و وضع شان بدتر از پیشتر شد.

²⁴But they hearkened not, nor inclined their ear, but walked in the counsels and in the imagination of their evil heart, and went backward, and not forward.

²⁵از همان روزی که اجداد تان از مصر خارج شدند تا به امروز بندگان خود، یعنی انبیاء را هر روز پیش شما فرستادم،

²⁵Since the day that your fathers came forth out of the land of Egypt unto this day I have even sent unto you all my servants the prophets, daily rising up early and sending them:

²⁶ولی کسی نه به سخنان شان گوش داد و نه توجهی کرد، بلکه زیادتر سخت دل شدند و به کارهای بدتر از آنکه پدران شان کردند، دست زدند.

²⁶Yet they hearkened not unto me, nor inclined their ear, but hardened their neck: they did worse than their fathers.

²⁷پس آنچه را به تو می گویم برای آن ها بیان کن، اما آن ها به تو گوش نمی دهند. تو آن ها را فراخوان، ولی توقع نداشته باش که آن ها جواب بدهند.

²⁷Therefore thou shalt speak all these words unto them; but they will not hearken to thee: thou shalt also call unto them; but they will not answer thee.

²⁸بگو اینها قومی هستند که از امر خداوند، خدای خود اطاعت نمی کنند و نمی خواهند اصلاح شوند. راستی و صداقت از بین رفته است و کسی هم حرفی از راستی نمی زند.

²⁸But thou shalt say unto them, This is a nation that obeyeth not the voice of the LORD their God, nor receiveth correction: truth is perished, and is cut off from their mouth.

²⁹ای مردم اورشلیم، موهای تان را بتراشید و دور بیندازید. بر بلندیها بالا شوید و گریه و نوحه کنید، زیرا شما آتش خشم مرا برافروختید و من خداوند، شما را طرد کرده ام.»

²⁹Cut off thine hair, O Jerusalem, and cast it away, and take up a lamentation on high places; for the LORD hath rejected and forsaken the generation of his wrath.

³⁰خداوند می فرماید: «مردم یهودا کارهای زشتی در برابر چشمان من کرده اند و در این عبادتگاهی که به اسم من نامیده می شود، بت پرستی کردند و آن را نجس ساختند.

³⁰For the children of Judah have done evil in my sight, saith the LORD: they have set their abominations in the house which is called by my name, to pollute it.

³¹در وادی بنی حنوم رفتند و در آنجا قربانگاهی بنام توفَت ساختند تا پسران و دختران خود را که من نه امر کرده بودم و نه حتی از خاطرم گذشته بود، در آتش بسوزانند و قربانی کنند.

³¹And they have built the high places of Tophet, which is in the valley of the son of Hinnom, to burn their sons and their daughters in the fire; which I commanded them not, neither came it into my heart.

³²بنابران، روزی می رسد که آنجا را توفَت یا وادی بنی حنوم نمی گویند، بلکه بنام وادی قتل یاد خواهد شد، زیرا در آنجا اجساد زیادی را دفن می کنند که دیگر جائی باقی نمی ماند. خداوند چنین فرموده است.

³²Therefore, behold, the days come, saith the LORD, that it shall no more be called Tophet, nor the valley of the son of Hinnom, but the valley of slaughter: for they shall bury in Tophet, till there be no place.

³³اجساد این قوم خوراک مرغان هوا و حیوانات زمین می شود و هیچ کسی زنده نمی ماند که آن ها را براند.من به آواز خوشی و صدای شاد عروس در شهرهای یهودا و کوچه های اورشلیم خاتمه می دهم و این سرزمین را به ویرانه ای تبدیل می کنم.»

³³And the carcases of this people shall be meat for the fowls of the heaven, and for the beasts of the earth; and none shall fray them away.

³⁴من به آواز خوشی و صدای شاد عروس در شهرهای یهودا و کوچه های اورشلیم خاتمه می دهم و این سرزمین را به ویرانه ای تبدیل می کنم.»

³⁴Then will I cause to cease from the cities of Judah, and from the streets of Jerusalem, the voice of mirth, and the voice of gladness, the voice of the bridegroom, and the voice of the bride: for the land shall be desolate.
