1بعد از آن عیسی در جلیل مسافرت می کرد. او نمی خواست در یهودیه باشد چون یهودیان قصد داشتند او را بکشند.
1After these things Jesus walked in Galilee: for he would not walk in Jewry, because the Jews sought to kill him.
2همینکه عید یهودیان یعنی عید سایبانها نزدیک شد،
2Now the Jew's feast of tabernacles was at hand.
3برادران عیسی به او گفتند: «اینجا را ترک کن و به یهودیه برو تا پیروان تو کارهایی را که می کنی ببینند.
3His brethren therefore said unto him, Depart hence, and go into Judaea, that thy disciples also may see the works that thou doest.
4کسی که می خواهد مشهور شود کارهای خود را پنهانی انجام نمی دهد، تو که این کارها را می کنی بگذار تمام دنیا تو را ببینند.»
4For there is no man that doeth any thing in secret, and he himself seeketh to be known openly. If thou do these things, shew thyself to the world.
5چونکه برادرانش هم به او ایمان نداشتند.
5For neither did his brethren believe in him.
6عیسی به ایشان گفت: «هنوز وقت من نرسیده است، اما برای شما هر وقت مناسب است.
6Then Jesus said unto them, My time is not yet come: but your time is alway ready.
7دنیا نمی تواند از شما متنفر باشد، اما از من نفرت دارد، زیرا من دربارۀ آن شهادت می دهم که کارهایش بد است.
7The world cannot hate you; but me it hateth, because I testify of it, that the works thereof are evil.
8شما برای این عید بروید. من فعلاً نمی آیم زیرا هنوز وقت من کاملاً نرسیده است.»
8Go ye up unto this feast: I go not up yet unto this feast: for my time is not yet full come.
9عیسی این را به آنها گفت و در جلیل ماند.
9When he had said these words unto them, he abode still in Galilee.
10بعد از آنکه برادرانش برای عید به اورشلیم رفتند، خود عیسی نیز به آنجا رفت ولی نه آشکارا بلکه پنهانی.
10But when his brethren were gone up, then went he also up unto the feast, not openly, but as it were in secret.
11یهودیان در ایام عید به دنبال او می گشتند و می پرسیدند: «او کجاست؟»
11Then the Jews sought him at the feast, and said, Where is he?
12در میان مردم دربارۀ او گفتگوی زیادی وجود داشت. بعضی می گفتند: «او آدم خوبی است.» و دیگران می گفتند: «نه، او مردم را گمراه می سازد.»
12And there was much murmuring among the people concerning him: for some said, He is a good man: others said, Nay; but he deceiveth the people.
13اما به علت ترس از یهودیان، هیچ کس دربارۀ او بطور واضع چیزی نمی گفت.
13Howbeit no man spake openly of him for fear of the Jews.
14در بین عید، عیسی به عبادتگاه آمد و به تعلیم دادن پرداخت.
14Now about the midst of the feast Jesus went up into the temple, and taught.
15یهودیان با تعجب می گفتند: «این شخص که هرگز تعلیم نیافته است، چگونه نوشته ها را می داند؟»
15And the Jews marvelled, saying, How knoweth this man letters, having never learned?
16عیسی در جواب ایشان گفت: «آنچه من تعلیم می دهم از خود من نیست، بلکه از طرف کسی است که مرا فرستاده است.
16Jesus answered them, and said, My doctrine is not mine, but his that sent me.
17کسی که میخواهد ارادۀ او را انجام دهد خواهد دانست که تعالیم من از جانب خداست یا من فقط از خود سخن می گویم.
17If any man will do his will, he shall know of the doctrine, whether it be of God, or whether I speak of myself.
18هرکه از خود سخن بگوید طالب جاه و جلال برای خود می باشد. اما کسی که طالب جلال فرستندۀ خود باشد، آدمی است صادق و در او ناراستی نیست.
18He that speaketh of himself seeketh his own glory: but he that seeketh his glory that sent him, the same is true, and no unrighteousness is in him.
19مگر موسی شریعت را به شما نداد ـ شریعتی که هیچ یک از شما آن را عمل نمی کند؟ چرا می خواهید مرا بکشید؟»
19Did not Moses give you the law, and yet none of you keepeth the law? Why go ye about to kill me?
20مردم در جواب گفتند: «تو دیوانه هستی. چه کسی می خواهد تو را بکشد؟»
20The people answered and said, Thou hast a devil: who goeth about to kill thee?
21عیسی جواب داد: «من یک کار کرده ام و همۀ شما از آن تعجب کرده اید.
21Jesus answered and said unto them, I have done one work, and ye all marvel.
22موسی حکم مربوط به سنت را به شما داد (هر چند از موسی شروع نشد بلکه از اجداد قوم) و شما در روز سَبَت پسران خود را سنت می کنید.
22Moses therefore gave unto you circumcision; (not because it is of Moses, but of the fathers;) and ye on the sabbath day circumcise a man.
23پس اگر پسران خود را در روز سَبَت سنت می کنید تا شریعت موسی شکسته نشود، چرا به این دلیل که من در روز سَبَت به یک انسان سلامتی کامل بخشیدم بر من خشمگین شده اید؟
23If a man on the sabbath day receive circumcision, that the law of Moses should not be broken; are ye angry at me, because I have made a man every whit whole on the sabbath day?
24از روی ظاهر قضاوت نکنید، بلکه در قضاوت های خود با انصاف باشید.»
24Judge not according to the appearance, but judge righteous judgment.
25پس بعضی از مردم اورشلیم گفتند: «آیا این همان کسی نیست که می خواهند او را بکشند؟
25Then said some of them of Jerusalem, Is not this he, whom they seek to kill?
26ببینید، او در اینجا بطور آشکار صحبت می کند و آن ها چیزی به او نمی گویند. آیا حکمرانان ما واقعاً قبول دارند که او مسیح وعده شده است؟
26But, lo, he speaketh boldly, and they say nothing unto him. Do the rulers know indeed that this is the very Christ?
27با وجود این ما همه می دانیم که این مرد اهل کجا است، اما وقتی مسیح ظهور کند هیچکس نخواهد دانست که او اهل کجاست.»
27Howbeit we know this man whence he is: but when Christ cometh, no man knoweth whence he is.
28از این رو وقتی عیسی در عبادتگاه تعلیم می داد با صدای بلند گفت: «شما مرا می شناسید و می دانید که اهل کجا هستم. ولی من به دلخواه خود نیامده ام زیرا فرستندۀ من حق است و شما او را نمی شناسید.
28Then cried Jesus in the temple as he taught, saying, Ye both know me, and ye know whence I am: and I am not come of myself, but he that sent me is true, whom ye know not.
29اما من او را می شناسم زیرا از جانب او آمده ام و او مرا فرستاده است.»
29But I know him: for I am from him, and he hath sent me.
30در این وقت آن ها خواستند او را دستگیر کنند، اما هیچکس دست به طرف او دراز نکرد، زیرا وقت او هنوز نرسیده بود.
30Then they sought to take him: but no man laid hands on him, because his hour was not yet come.
31ولی عدۀ زیادی به او ایمان آوردند و می گفتند: «آیا وقتی مسیح ظهور کند از این شخص بیشتر معجزه می نماید؟»
31And many of the people believed on him, and said, When Christ cometh, will he do more miracles than these which this man hath done?
32فریسی ها آنچه را که مردم دربارۀ او بطور پنهانی می گفتند شنیدند. پس آن ها و سران کاهنان نگهبانی را فرستادند تا عیسی را توقیف کنند.
32The Pharisees heard that the people murmured such things concerning him; and the Pharisees and the chief priests sent officers to take him.
33آنگاه عیسی گفت: «فقط مدت کوتاهی با شما خواهم بود و بعد به نزد کسی که مرا فرستاده است خواهم رفت.
33Then said Jesus unto them, Yet a little while am I with you, and then I go unto him that sent me.
34شما به دنبال من خواهید گشت، اما مرا نخواهید یافت و به جائی که من خواهم بود شما نمی توانید بیائید.»
34Ye shall seek me, and shall not find me: and where I am, thither ye cannot come.
35پس یهودیان به یکدیگر گفتند: «کجا می خواهد برود که ما نتوانیم او را پیدا کنیم؟ آیا می خواهد پیش کسانی برود که در میان یونانیان پراگنده هستند و به یونانیان تعلیم دهد؟
35Then said the Jews among themselves, Whither will he go, that we shall not find him? will he go unto the dispersed among the Gentiles, and teach the Gentiles?
36او می گوید: به دنبال من خواهید گشت اما مرا نخواهید یافت و به جائی که من خواهم بود شما نمی توانید بیائید. مقصد او از این حرف چیست؟»
36What manner of saying is this that he said, Ye shall seek me, and shall not find me: and where I am, thither ye cannot come?
37در آخرین روز که مهمترین روز عید بود عیسی ایستاد و با صدای بلند گفت: «اگر کسی تشنه است پیش من بیاید و بنوشد.
37In the last day, that great day of the feast, Jesus stood and cried, saying, If any man thirst, let him come unto me, and drink.
38چنانکه کلام خدا می فرماید: نهرهای آب زنده از درون آن کسی که به من ایمان بیاورد جاری خواهد گشت.»
38He that believeth on me, as the scripture hath said, out of his belly shall flow rivers of living water.
39این سخنان را دربارۀ روح القدس، که به مؤمنین او داده خواهد شد، گفت و چون هنوز عیسی جلال نیافته بود، روح القدس عطا نشده بود.
39(But this spake he of the Spirit, which they that believe on him should receive: for the Holy Ghost was not yet given; because that Jesus was not yet glorified.)
40بسیاری از کسانی که این سخن را شنیدند گفتند: «این مرد واقعاً همان پیامبر وعده شده است.»
40Many of the people therefore, when they heard this saying, said, Of a truth this is the Prophet.
41دیگران گفتند: «او مسیح است.» و عده ای هم گفتند: «آیا مسیح از جلیل ظهور می کند؟
41Others said, This is the Christ. But some said, Shall Christ come out of Galilee?
42مگر کلام خدا نمی گوید که مسیح از خاندان داود و اهل دهکدۀ داود یعنی بیت لِحِم ظهور می کند؟»
42Hath not the scripture said, That Christ cometh of the seed of David, and out of the town of Bethlehem, where David was?
43به این ترتیب دربارۀ او در میان جمعیت دو دستگی بوجود آمد.
43So there was a division among the people because of him.
44عده ای خواستند او را دستگیر کنند، اما هیچ کس به طرف او دست دراز نکرد.
44And some of them would have taken him; but no man laid hands on him.
45بعد از آن نگهبانان پیش سران کاهنان و پیروان فرقۀ فریسی برگشتند. آن ها از نگهبانان پرسیدند: «چرا او را نیاوردید؟»
45Then came the officers to the chief priests and Pharisees; and they said unto them, Why have ye not brought him?
46نگهبانان جواب دادند: «تا به حال هیچ کس مانند این مرد سخن نگفته است.»
46The officers answered, Never man spake like this man.
47فریسی ها در جواب گفتند: «آیا او شما را هم گمراه کرده است؟
47Then answered them the Pharisees, Are ye also deceived?
48آیا کسی از رؤسا و فریسی ها به او گرویده است؟
48Have any of the rulers or of the Pharisees believed on him?
49و اما این آدم هائی که از شریعت بی خبرند، خدا زده هستند!»
49But this people who knoweth not the law are cursed.
50نیقودیموس، که در شب به دیدن عیسی آمده بود و یکی از آن ها بود، از آن ها پرسید:
50Nicodemus saith unto them, (he that came to Jesus by night, being one of them,)
51«آیا شریعت به ما اجازه می دهد سر کسی حکم کنیم بدون آنکه به سخنان او گوش دهیم و بدانیم چه کار کرده است؟»در جواب به او گفتند: «مگر تو هم جلیلی هستی؟ تحقیق کن و ببین که هیچ پیامبری از جلیل ظهور نکرده است.»
51Doth our law judge any man, before it hear him, and know what he doeth?
52در جواب به او گفتند: «مگر تو هم جلیلی هستی؟ تحقیق کن و ببین که هیچ پیامبری از جلیل ظهور نکرده است.»
52They answered and said unto him, Art thou also of Galilee? Search, and look: for out of Galilee ariseth no prophet.
53And every man went unto his own house.
