¹خداوند این پیام را که راجع به نینوا بود در رؤیا به ناحومِ اَلقُوشی داد:

¹The burden of Nineveh. The book of the vision of Nahum the Elkoshite.

²خداوند، خدای غیور و انتقام گیرنده است. او با خشم و غضب انتقام می گیرد و دشمنان خود را مجازات می کند.

²God is jealous, and the LORD revengeth; the LORD revengeth, and is furious; the LORD will take vengeance on his adversaries, and he reserveth wrath for his enemies.

³خداوند به زودی خشمگین نمی شود، اما او قادر و توانا است و گناه را هرگز بی جزا نمی گذارد. قدرت خداوند را می توان در طوفان و گِردباد مشاهده کرد. ابر ها خاکِ زیر پای او می باشند.

³The LORD is slow to anger, and great in power, and will not at all acquit the wicked: the LORD hath his way in the whirlwind and in the storm, and the clouds are the dust of his feet.

⁴به فرمان او بحرها و دریاها خشک می شوند. کشتزارهای سرسبز باشان و کَرمَل از بین می روند و گلهای لبنان پژمرده می گردند.

⁴He rebuketh the sea, and maketh it dry, and drieth up all the rivers: Bashan languisheth, and Carmel, and the flower of Lebanon languisheth.

⁵در برابر او کوهها تکان می خورند و تپه ها هموار می شوند. جهان به لرزه می آید و ساکنین اش به وحشت می افتند.

⁵The mountains quake at him, and the hills melt, and the earth is burned at his presence, yea, the world, and all that dwell therein.

⁶کیست که بتواند در برابر خشم او مقاومت کند؟ غضب او مثل آتش می ریزد و صخره ها در برابر خشم او خُرد می شوند.

⁶Who can stand before his indignation? and who can abide in the fierceness of his anger? his fury is poured out like fire, and the rocks are thrown down by him.

⁷خداوند نیکو است و در روز سختی و مصیبت پناهگاه می باشد و از کسانیکه به او توکل می کنند مراقبت می کند.

⁷The LORD is good, a strong hold in the day of trouble; and he knoweth them that trust in him.

⁸اما مانند سیلابِ شدید دشمنان را نابود می سازد و مخالفین را در کام تاریک مرگ می فرستد.

⁸But with an overrunning flood he will make an utter end of the place thereof, and darkness shall pursue his enemies.

⁹آیا شما می توانید در برابر خداوند مقاومت کنید؟ او شما را از بین می برد تا دیگر نتوانید با او مخالفت نمائید.

⁹What do ye imagine against the LORD? he will make an utter end: affliction shall not rise up the second time.

¹⁰دشمنان خداوند مانند خارهای بهم پیچیده و کاهِ خشک در آتش می سوزند و خاکستر می شوند.

¹⁰For while they be folden together as thorns, and while they are drunken as drunkards, they shall be devoured as stubble fully dry.

¹¹از تو ای نینوا، شخصی پیدا می شود که علیه خداوند توطئه می کند.

¹¹There is one come out of thee, that imagineth evil against the LORD, a wicked counsellor.

¹²خداوند به قوم برگزیدۀ خود، اسرائیل چنین می فرماید: «لشکر آشور هر قدر نیرومند و بی حساب باشد، شکست می خورد و نابود می شود. من شما را بقدر کافی به رنج و مصیبت گرفتار کردم، اما دیگر این کار را نمی کنم.

¹²Thus saith the LORD; Though they be quiet, and likewise many, yet thus shall they be cut down, when he shall pass through. Though I have afflicted thee, I will afflict thee no more.

¹³حالا یوغ غلامی را از گردن تان بر می دارم و شما را از بند زنجیر اسارت آشوریان آزاد می سازم.»

¹³For now will I break his yoke from off thee, and will burst thy bonds in sunder.

¹⁴خداوند در مورد آشور می فرماید: «نسلی به نام تو باقی نمی ماند. بتها را از بتخانه هایت نابود می کنم. قبرت را می کنم، زیرا تو سزاوار مرگ هستی.»ببینید، قاصدی از فراز کوهها پائین می شود و مژدۀ سلامتی را اعلام می کند. ای مردم یهودا، عیدهای خود را برگزار کنید و نذرهای خود را ادا نمائید، زیرا مردم شریر دیگر هرگز بر شما حمله نمی کنند. آن ها همه نابود شده اند.

¹⁴And the LORD hath given a commandment concerning thee, that no more of thy name be sown: out of the house of thy gods will I cut off the graven image and the molten image: I will make thy grave; for thou art vile.

¹⁵ببینید، قاصدی از فراز کوهها پائین می شود و مژدۀ سلامتی را اعلام می کند. ای مردم یهودا، عیدهای خود را برگزار کنید و نذرهای خود را ادا نمائید، زیرا مردم شریر دیگر هرگز بر شما حمله نمی کنند. آن ها همه نابود شده اند.

¹⁵Behold upon the mountains the feet of him that bringeth good tidings, that publisheth peace! O Judah, keep thy solemn feasts, perform thy vows: for the wicked shall no more pass through thee; he is utterly cut off.
