¹ای قوم بی حیا، پیش از آنکه مثل کاه در برابر باد رانده شوید، قبل از آنکه روزِ هولناکِ غضب خداوند ناگهان برسد و همه چیز را در سر راه خود از بین ببرد، گناهان تان را بیاد آورید و توبه کنید.

¹Gather yourselves together, yea, gather together, O nation not desired;

²ای مردم فروتن این سرزمین که احکام او را بجا می آورید، راستکار باشید و با تواضع و شکسته نفسی بسوی خداوند باز گردید تا شاید در آن روزِ غضبِ خود، شما را در پناه خود نگاهدارد.

²Before the decree bring forth, before the day pass as the chaff, before the fierce anger of the LORD come upon you, before the day of the LORD's anger come upon you.

³شهرهای غزه، اَشقَلُون و اَشدُود متروک و از سکنه خالی می شوند. اهالی عَقرُون از شهر بیرون رانده شده، ریشه کن می گردند.

³Seek ye the LORD, all ye meek of the earth, which have wrought his judgment; seek righteousness, seek meekness: it may be ye shall be hid in the day of the LORD's anger.

⁴وای بحال شما فلسطینیانی که در ساحل بحر و در سرزمین کنعان سکونت دارید، زیرا شما محکوم به مرگ هستید و خداوند شما را نابود می سازد. حتی یک نفر شما را هم زنده نمی گذارد.

⁴For Gaza shall be forsaken, and Ashkelon a desolation: they shall drive out Ashdod at the noon day, and Ekron shall be rooted up.

⁵کشور ساحلی شما چراگاهی برای چوپانها و طویلۀ گوسفندان می شود.

⁵Woe unto the inhabitants of the sea coast, the nation of the Cherethites! the word of the LORD is against you; O Canaan, the land of the Philistines, I will even destroy thee, that there shall be no inhabitant.

⁶بازماندگان قبیلۀ یهودا کشور شما را تسخیر می کنند و در آنجا رمه های خود را می چرانند و خانه های اَشقَلُون را خوابگاه خود می سازند، زیرا خداوند متعال از قوم برگزیدۀ خود مراقبت نموده و آن ها را دوباره سعادتمند و خوشبخت می گرداند.

⁶And the sea coast shall be dwellings and cottages for shepherds, and folds for flocks.

⁷«طعنه های مردم موآب را شنیده ام و دیدم که عَمونی ها چطور قوم برگزیدۀ مرا تحقیر و مسخره می کردند و با غرور می گفتند که سرزمین آن ها را اشغال می کنند.»

⁷And the coast shall be for the remnant of the house of Judah; they shall feed thereupon: in the houses of Ashkelon shall they lie down in the evening: for the LORD their God shall visit them, and turn away their captivity.

⁸بنابران خداوند قادر مطلق، خدای اسرائیل می فرماید: «به حیات خودم قسم که موآب و عَمون مثل سَدوم و عَمُورَه نابود می گردند و به یک سرزمین خارزار و گودالهای نمک و ویرانی ابدی تبدیل می شوند و بازماندگان قوم برگزیدۀ من سرزمین آن ها را تصرف می کنند.»

⁸I have heard the reproach of Moab, and the revilings of the children of Ammon, whereby they have reproached my people, and magnified themselves against their border.

⁹مردم موآب و عمون بخاطر غرور خود به چنین سرنوشتی دچار می شوند، زیرا به قوم برگزیدۀ خداوند قادر مطلق اهانت کرده آن ها را مورد تمسخر خود قرار دادند.

⁹Therefore as I live, saith the LORD of hosts, the God of Israel, Surely Moab shall be as Sodom, and the children of Ammon as Gomorrah, even the breeding of nettles, and saltpits, and a perpetual desolation: the residue of my people shall spoil them, and the remnant of my people shall possess them.

¹⁰خداوند آن ها را به بلاهای وحشت آوری دچار می سازد و همۀ خدایان روی زمین را از بین می برد. آنگاه تمام اقوام جهان در کشورهای خود او را پرستش می کنند.

¹⁰This shall they have for their pride, because they have reproached and magnified themselves against the people of the LORD of hosts.

¹¹ای مردم حبشه، خداوند شما را هم با شمشیر خود هلاک می کند.

¹¹The LORD will be terrible unto them: for he will famish all the gods of the earth; and men shall worship him, every one from his place, even all the isles of the heathen.

¹²خداوند با قدرت خدائی خود آشور را نابود می سازد، پایتخت آن، نینوا را به بیابان خشک ولامزروع تبدیل می کند.

¹²Ye Ethiopians also, ye shall be slain by my sword.

¹³آنجا چراگاه گوسفندان و محل بود و باش هرنوع حیوانات می شود. در ویرانه های آن جغد و بوم آشیانه می کنند و صدای شان از کلکین های خانه ها بگوش می رسد. زاغها در آستانۀ خانه ها آواز می خوانند. چوبهای سرو که در بنای عمارات به کار برده شده بودند، از بین می روند.این شهر که موجب افتخار و محل رفاه و آسایش مردمش بود، عاقبت به این سرنوشت دچار می گردد، زیرا این شهر با غرور می گفت: «در تمام دنیا مانند من شهر بزرگی وجود ندارد.» اما سرانجام ویران و متروک می گردد و لانه و بیشۀ حیوانات وحشی می شود و هر کسی که از آنجا بگذرد، سر خود را تکان داده بحالش افسوس می خورد.

¹³And he will stretch out his hand against the north, and destroy Assyria; and will make Nineveh a desolation, and dry like a wilderness.

¹⁴این شهر که موجب افتخار و محل رفاه و آسایش مردمش بود، عاقبت به این سرنوشت دچار می گردد، زیرا این شهر با غرور می گفت: «در تمام دنیا مانند من شهر بزرگی وجود ندارد.» اما سرانجام ویران و متروک می گردد و لانه و بیشۀ حیوانات وحشی می شود و هر کسی که از آنجا بگذرد، سر خود را تکان داده بحالش افسوس می خورد.

¹⁴And flocks shall lie down in the midst of her, all the beasts of the nations: both the cormorant and the bittern shall lodge in the upper lintels of it; their voice shall sing in the windows; desolation shall be in the thresholds; for he shall uncover the cedar work.

¹⁵This is the rejoicing city that dwelt carelessly, that said in her heart, I am, and there is none beside me: how is she become a desolation, a place for beasts to lie down in! every one that passeth by her shall hiss, and wag his hand.
