1I exhort therefore, first of all, that supplications, prayers, intercessions, thanksgivings be made for all men;
1ועתה קדם כל דבר אבקשה מכם לשאת תפלות ותחנונים ובקשות ותודות בעד כל בני אדם׃
2for kings and all that are in dignity, that we may lead a quiet and tranquil life in all piety and gravity;
2בעד המלכים וכל השליטים למען נחיה חיי השקט ובטח בכל חסידות וישר׃
3for this is good and acceptable before our Saviour God,
3כי כן טוב ורצוי בעיני אלהים מושיענו׃
4who desires that all men should be saved and come to [the] knowledge of [the] truth.
4אשר חפצו שיושעו כל בני האדם ויגיעו להכרת האמת׃
5For God is one, and [the] mediator of God and men one, [the] man Christ Jesus,
5כי אחד הוא האלהים ואחד הוא העמד בין אלהים ובין בני אדם הוא בן אדם המשיח ישוע׃
6who gave himself a ransom for all, the testimony [to be rendered] in its own times;
6אשר נתן את נפשו כפר בעד כל וזאת העדות הבאה בעתה׃
7to which *I* have been appointed a herald and apostle, (I speak [the] truth, I do not lie,) a teacher of [the] nations in faith and truth.
7אשר אני הפקדתי לה לכרוז ולשליח אמת אני אמר במשיח ולא אשקר מורה הגוים באמונה ובאמת׃
8I will therefore that the men pray in every place, lifting up pious hands, without wrath or reasoning.
8לכן רצוני שיתפללו האנשים בכל מקום וישאו ידיהם קדש בלי כעס ומדון׃
9In like manner also that the women in decent deportment and dress adorn themselves with modesty and discretion, not with plaited [hair] and gold, or pearls, or costly clothing,
9וכן גם הנשים תתיפינה בתלבשת נאה עם בשת פנים וצניעות לא במחלפות הראש לא בזהב לא בפנינים ולא במלבושים יקרים׃
10but, what becomes women making profession of the fear of God, by good works.
10אלא כמו שהוא הגון לנשים אשר בחרו להן יראת אלהים במעשים טובים׃
11Let a woman learn in quietness in all subjection;
11האשה תלמד דומם בכל הכנעה׃
12but I do not suffer a woman to teach nor to exercise authority over man, but to be in quietness;
12ואינני נתן רשות לאשה ללמד אף לא להתנשא על האיש אלא תדום׃
13for Adam was formed first, then Eve:
13כי אדם נוצר בראשונה ואחריו חוה׃
14and Adam was not deceived; but the woman, having been deceived, was in transgression.
14ואדם לא נפתה כי האשה שמעה לקול המשיא ותבא לידי עברה׃
15But she shall be preserved in childbearing, if they continue in faith and love and holiness with discretion.
15אבל תושע בלדתה בנים אם תעמדנה באמונה ובאהבה ובקדשה עם הצניעות׃
