¹Give ye thanks unto Jehovah; for he is good; for his loving-kindness [endureth] for ever.

¹הדו ליהוה כי טוב כי לעולם חסדו׃

²Let the redeemed of Jehovah say so, whom he hath redeemed from the hand of the oppressor,

²יאמרו גאולי יהוה אשר גאלם מיד צר׃

³And gathered out of the countries, from the east and from the west, from the north and from the sea.

³ומארצות קבצם ממזרח וממערב מצפון ומים׃

⁴They wandered in the wilderness in a desert way, they found no city of habitation;

⁴תעו במדבר בישימון דרך עיר מושב לא מצאו׃

⁵Hungry and thirsty, their soul fainted in them:

⁵רעבים גם צמאים נפשם בהם תתעטף׃

⁶Then they cried unto Jehovah in their trouble, [and] he delivered them out of their distresses,

⁶ויצעקו אל יהוה בצר להם ממצוקותיהם יצילם׃

⁷And he led them forth by a right way, that they might go to a city of habitation.

⁷וידריכם בדרך ישרה ללכת אל עיר מושב׃

⁸Let them give thanks unto Jehovah for his loving-kindness, and for his wondrous works to the children of men;

⁸יודו ליהוה חסדו ונפלאותיו לבני אדם׃

⁹For he hath satisfied the longing soul and filled the hungry soul with good.

⁹כי השביע נפש שקקה ונפש רעבה מלא טוב׃

¹⁰Such as inhabit darkness and the shadow of death, bound in affliction and iron,

¹⁰ישבי חשך וצלמות אסירי עני וברזל׃

¹¹Because they had rebelled against the words of ùGod, and had despised the counsel of the Most High; ...

¹¹כי המרו אמרי אל ועצת עליון נאצו׃

¹²And he bowed down their heart with labour; they stumbled, and there was none to help:

¹²ויכנע בעמל לבם כשלו ואין עזר׃

¹³Then they cried unto Jehovah in their trouble, [and] he saved them out of their distresses;

¹³ויזעקו אל יהוה בצר להם ממצקותיהם יושיעם׃

¹⁴He brought them out of darkness and the shadow of death, and broke their bands in sunder.

¹⁴יוציאם מחשך וצלמות ומוסרותיהם ינתק׃

¹⁵Let them give thanks unto Jehovah for his loving-kindness, and for his wondrous works to the children of men;

¹⁵יודו ליהוה חסדו ונפלאותיו לבני אדם׃

¹⁶For he hath broken the gates of bronze, and cut asunder the bars of iron.

¹⁶כי שבר דלתות נחשת ובריחי ברזל גדע׃

¹⁷Fools, because of their way of transgression, and because of their iniquities, are afflicted;

¹⁷אולים מדרך פשעם ומעונתיהם יתענו׃

¹⁸Their soul abhorreth all manner of food, and they draw near unto the gates of death:

¹⁸כל אכל תתעב נפשם ויגיעו עד שערי מות׃

¹⁹Then they cry unto Jehovah in their trouble, [and] he saveth them out of their distresses;

¹⁹ויזעקו אל יהוה בצר להם ממצקותיהם יושיעם׃

²⁰He sendeth his word, and healeth them, and delivereth them from their destructions.

²⁰ישלח דברו וירפאם וימלט משחיתותם׃

²¹Let them give thanks unto Jehovah for his loving-kindness, and for his wondrous works to the children of men,

²¹יודו ליהוה חסדו ונפלאותיו לבני אדם׃

²²And let them offer the sacrifices of thanksgiving, and declare his works in joyful song.

²²ויזבחו זבחי תודה ויספרו מעשיו ברנה׃

²³They that go down to the sea in ships, that do business in great waters,

²³יורדי הים באניות עשי מלאכה במים רבים׃

²⁴These see the works of Jehovah, and his wonders in the deep.

²⁴המה ראו מעשי יהוה ונפלאותיו במצולה׃

²⁵For he speaketh, and raiseth the stormy wind, which lifteth up the waves thereof:

²⁵ויאמר ויעמד רוח סערה ותרומם גליו׃

²⁶They mount up to the heavens, they go down to the depths; their soul is melted because of trouble;

²⁶יעלו שמים ירדו תהומות נפשם ברעה תתמוגג׃

²⁷They reel to and fro, and stagger like a drunken man, and they are at their wits' end:

²⁷יחוגו וינועו כשכור וכל חכמתם תתבלע׃

²⁸Then they cry unto Jehovah in their trouble, and he bringeth them out of their distresses;

²⁸ויצעקו אל יהוה בצר להם וממצוקתיהם יוציאם׃

²⁹He maketh the storm a calm, and the waves thereof are still:

²⁹יקם סערה לדממה ויחשו גליהם׃

³⁰And they rejoice because they are quiet; and he bringeth them unto their desired haven.

³⁰וישמחו כי ישתקו וינחם אל מחוז חפצם׃

³¹Let them give thanks unto Jehovah for his loving-kindness, and for his wondrous works to the children of men;

³¹יודו ליהוה חסדו ונפלאותיו לבני אדם׃

³²Let them exalt him also in the congregation of the people, and praise him in the session of the elders.

³²וירממוהו בקהל עם ובמושב זקנים יהללוהו׃

³³He maketh rivers into a wilderness, and water-springs into dry ground;

³³ישם נהרות למדבר ומצאי מים לצמאון׃

³⁴A fruitful land into a plain of salt, for the wickedness of them that dwell therein.

³⁴ארץ פרי למלחה מרעת ישבי בה׃

³⁵He maketh the wilderness into a pool of water, and the dry land into water-springs;

³⁵ישם מדבר לאגם מים וארץ ציה למצאי מים׃

³⁶And there he maketh the hungry to dwell, and they establish a city of habitation;

³⁶ויושב שם רעבים ויכוננו עיר מושב׃

³⁷And sow fields, and plant vineyards, which yield fruits of increase;

³⁷ויזרעו שדות ויטעו כרמים ויעשו פרי תבואה׃

³⁸And he blesseth them, so that they are multiplied greatly; and he suffereth not their cattle to decrease.

³⁸ויברכם וירבו מאד ובהמתם לא ימעיט׃

³⁹And they are diminished and brought low, through oppression, adversity, and sorrow:

³⁹וימעטו וישחו מעצר רעה ויגון׃

⁴⁰He poureth contempt upon nobles, and causeth them to wander in a pathless waste;

⁴⁰שפך בוז על נדיבים ויתעם בתהו לא דרך׃

⁴¹But he secureth the needy one on high from affliction, and maketh [him] families like flocks.

⁴¹וישגב אביון מעוני וישם כצאן משפחות׃

⁴²The upright shall see it, and rejoice; and all unrighteousness shall stop its mouth.

⁴²יראו ישרים וישמחו וכל עולה קפצה פיה׃

⁴³Whoso is wise, let him observe these things, and let them understand the loving-kindnesses of Jehovah.

⁴³מי חכם וישמר אלה ויתבוננו חסדי יהוה׃
