1{To the chief Musician, to Jeduthun. A Psalm of David.} I said, I will take heed to my ways, that I sin not with my tongue: I will keep my mouth with a muzzle, while the wicked is before me.
1Untuk pemimpin kor. Mazmur Daud. Untuk Yedutun. (39-2) Pikirku, "Aku mau menjaga diri supaya tidak berdosa dengan lidahku. Aku tak mau berbicara selama orang jahat masih dekat."
2I was dumb with silence, I held my peace from good; and my sorrow was stirred.
2(39-3) Aku diam seribu bahasa, sehingga merugikan diriku sendiri. Dan penderitaanku terasa semakin berat;
3My heart burned within me; the fire was kindled in my musing: I spoke with my tongue,
3(39-4) aku dicekam kecemasan yang hebat. Makin dipikirkan, makin susah hatiku; akhirnya berkatalah aku,
4Make me to know, Jehovah, mine end, and the measure of my days, what it is: I shall know how frail I am.
4(39-5) "TUHAN, beritahukanlah kapan ajalku supaya aku tahu betapa pendek hidupku."
5Behold, thou hast made my days [as] hand-breadths, and my lifetime is as nothing before thee; verily, every man, [even] the high placed, is altogether vanity. Selah.
5(39-6) Betapa singkat Kautentukan umurku! Bagi-Mu jangka hidupku tidak berarti. Sungguh, manusia seperti hembusan napas saja,
6Verily, man walketh in a vain show; verily they are disquieted in vain; he heapeth up [riches], and knoweth not who shall gather them.
6(39-7) hidupnya berlalu seperti bayangan. Semua kesibukannya sia-sia belaka; ia menimbun harta, tapi tak tahu siapa akan memakainya.
7And now, what wait I for, Lord? my hope is in thee.
7(39-8) Sekarang apa yang kunantikan, ya TUHAN? Pada-Mulah harapanku.
8Deliver me from all my transgressions; make me not the reproach of the foolish.
8(39-9) Lepaskanlah aku dari semua dosaku, jangan biarkan aku menjadi ejekan orang dungu.
9I was dumb, I opened not my mouth; for *thou* hast done [it].
9(39-10) Aku diam dan tidak membuka mulutku, sebab Engkaulah yang menghajar aku.
10Remove thy stroke away from me: I am consumed by the blow of thy hand.
10(39-11) Ambillah hukuman-Mu daripadaku, sebab aku hampir mati karena pukulan-Mu.
11When thou with rebukes dost correct a man for iniquity, thou makest his beauty to consume away like a moth: surely, every man is vanity. Selah.
11(39-12) Manusia karena kesalahannya; Kauhukum dan Kauhajar seperti ngengat Kauhancurkan apa yang berharga baginya. Sungguh, manusia seperti hembusan napas saja.
12Hear my prayer, Jehovah, and give ear unto my cry; be not silent at my tears: for I am a stranger with thee, a sojourner, like all my fathers.
12(39-13) Dengarlah doaku ya TUHAN, perhatikanlah permohonanku; jangan tinggal diam bila aku menangis. Seperti semua nenek moyangku, cuma sebentar saja aku menumpang pada-Mu.
13Look away from me, and let me recover strength, before I go hence and be no more.
13(39-14) Jangan mengganggu aku, supaya aku sedikit senang, sebelum aku pergi dan tak ada lagi.
