¹{To the chief Musician. On Jonathelem-rechokim. Of David. Michtam; when the Philistines took him in Gath.} Be gracious unto me, O God; for man would swallow me up: all the day long fighting he oppresseth me.

¹Untuk pemimpin kor. Menurut lagu: Merpati yang membisu, dari daerah yang jauh. Mazmur Daud ketika orang Filistin menangkap dia di Gat. (56-2) Kasihanilah aku, ya Allah, sebab aku diserang, terus-menerus aku ditindas musuh-musuhku.

²Mine enemies would swallow [me] up all the day long; for they are many that fight against me haughtily.

²(56-3) Sepanjang hari aku diinjak-injak lawanku; banyaklah yang memusuhi aku, ya Allah Yang Mahatinggi.

³In the day that I am afraid, I will confide in thee.

³(56-4) Waktu aku takut, aku berharap kepada-Mu.

⁴In God will I praise his word, in God I put my confidence: I will not fear; what can flesh do unto me?

⁴(56-5) Aku memuji Allah karena apa yang Ia janjikan; aku percaya kepada-Nya, maka aku tak takut, manusia tidak berdaya terhadapku.

⁵All the day long they wrest my words; all their thoughts are against me for evil.

⁵(56-6) Sepanjang hari musuh mengacaukan perkaraku, terus-menerus mereka berusaha mencelakakan aku.

⁶They gather themselves together, they hide themselves; they mark my steps, because they wait for my soul.

⁶(56-7) Mereka bergerombol di tempat tersembunyi, mengamat-amati segala yang kulakukan, dan mencari kesempatan untuk membunuh aku.

⁷Shall they escape by iniquity? In anger cast down the peoples, O God.

⁷(56-8) Adakah keselamatan bagi kejahatan mereka? Binasakanlah mereka dalam kemarahan-Mu, ya Allah!

⁸*Thou* countest my wanderings; put my tears into thy bottle: are they not in thy book?

⁸(56-9) Engkau menghitung hari-hari pengembaraanku, dan tahu jumlah air mataku; tidakkah Engkau memperhitungkannya?

⁹Then shall mine enemies return backward in the day when I call: this I know, for God is for me.

⁹(56-10) Pada hari aku berseru kepada-Mu, musuh akan dipukul mundur, sebab aku tahu Allah memihak aku.

¹⁰In God will I praise [his] word; in Jehovah will I praise [his] word.

¹⁰(56-11) Aku memuji TUHAN Allah, karena apa yang Ia janjikan.

¹¹In God have I put my confidence: I will not fear; what can man do unto me?

¹¹(56-12) Aku percaya kepada-Nya, maka aku tak takut, manusia tidak berdaya terhadapku.

¹²Thy vows are upon me, O God: I will render thanks unto thee.

¹²(56-13) Aku akan menepati janjiku kepada-Mu, ya Allah, dan mempersembahkan kurban syukur kepada-Mu.

¹³For thou hast delivered my soul from death; [wilt thou] not [keep] my feet from falling, that I may walk before God in the light of the living?

¹³(56-14) Sebab Engkau meluputkan aku dari maut, Kaujaga aku supaya tidak jatuh. Maka aku boleh hidup dalam perlindungan Allah, dalam cahaya yang menerangi semua yang hidup.
