¹Now these are they that came to David to Ziklag, while he kept still close because of Saul the son of Kish; and they were among the mighty men who helped him in the conflict;

¹ダビデがキシの子サウルにしりぞけられて、なおチクラグにいた時、次の人々が彼のもとに来た。彼らはダビデを助けて戦った勇士たちのうちにあり、

²armed with bows, using both the right hand and the left with stones and with arrows on the bow; [they were] of Saul's brethren of Benjamin:

²弓をよくする者、左右いずれの手をもってもよく矢を射、石を投げる者で、ともにベニヤミンびとで、サウルの同族である。

³the chief Ahiezer, and Joash, the sons of Shemaah the Gibeathite; and Jeziel, and Pelet, the sons of Azmaveth; and Berachah, and Jehu the Anathothite,

³そのかしらはアヒエゼル、次はヨアシで、ともにギベア出身のシマアの子たちである。またエジエルとペレテで、ともにアズマウテの子たちである。またベラカおよびアナトテ出身のエヒウ。

⁴and Jishmaiah the Gibeonite, a mighty man among the thirty, and over the thirty; and Jeremiah, and Jahaziel, and Johanan, and Jozabad the Gederathite.

⁴またギベオン出身のイシマヤ、彼は三十人のうちの勇士で、その三十人の長である。またエレミヤ、ヤハジエル、ヨハナン、ゲデラ出身のヨザバデ、

⁵Eluzai, and Jerimoth, and Bealiah, and Shemariah, and Shephatiah the Haruphite;

⁵エルザイ、エリモテ、ベアリヤ、シマリヤ、ハリフびとシパテヤ、

⁶Elkanah, and Jishijah, and Azareel, and Joezer, and Jashobeam, the Korahites;

⁶エルカナ、イシア、アザリエル、ヨエゼル、ヤショベアムで、これらはコラびとである。

⁷and Joelah, and Zebadiah, the sons of Jeroham of Gedor.

⁷またゲドルのエロハムの子たちであるヨエラおよびゼバデヤである。

⁸And of the Gadites, there separated themselves to David in the stronghold in the wilderness mighty men of valour, men fit for the service of war, armed with shield and spear; whose faces were [like] the faces of lions, and who were swift as the gazelles upon the mountains:

⁸ガドびとのうちから荒野の要害に来て、ダビデについた者は皆勇士で、よく戦う軍人、よく盾とやりをつかう者、その顔はししの顔のようで、その速いことは山にいるしかのようであった。

⁹Ezer the first, Obadiah the second, Eliab the third,

⁹彼らのかしらはエゼル、次はオバデヤ、第三はエリアブ、

¹⁰Mishmannah the fourth, Jeremiah the fifth,

¹⁰第四はミシマンナ、第五はエレミヤ、

¹¹Attai the sixth, Eliel the seventh,

¹¹第六はアッタイ、第七はエリエル、

¹²Johanan the eighth, Elzabad the ninth,

¹²第八はヨナハン、第九はエルザバデ、

¹³Jeremiah the tenth, Machbannai the eleventh.

¹³第十はエレミヤ、第十一はマクバナイである。

¹⁴These were of the sons of Gad, captains of the host: one of the least was over a hundred, and the greatest over a thousand.

¹⁴これらはガドの子孫で軍勢の長たる者、その最も小さい者でも百人に当り、その最も大いなる者は千人に当った。

¹⁵These are they that went over Jordan in the first month, when it overflows all its banks, and they put to flight all [them] of the valleys, toward the east and toward the west.

¹⁵正月、ヨルダンがその全岸にあふれたとき、彼らはこれを渡って、谷々にいる者をことごとく東に西に逃げ走らせた。

¹⁶And there came of the children of Benjamin and Judah to the stronghold to David.

¹⁶ベニヤミンとユダの子孫のうちの人々が要害に来て、ダビデについた。

¹⁷And David went out to meet them, and answered and said to them, If ye come peaceably to me to help me, my heart shall be knit unto you; but if to betray me to mine enemies, seeing there is no wrong in my hands, the God of our fathers see [it] and rebuke [it].

¹⁷ダビデは出て彼らを迎えて言った、「あなたがたが好意をもって、わたしを助けるために来たのならば、わたしの心もあなたがたと、ひとつになりましょう。しかし、わたしの手になんの悪事もないのに、もしあなたがたが、わたしを欺いて、敵に渡すためであるならば、われわれの先祖の神がどうぞみそなわして、あなたがたを責められますように」。

¹⁸And the Spirit came upon Amasai, the chief of the captains, [and he said,] Thine [are we], David, And with thee, thou son of Jesse: Peace, peace be to thee! And peace be to thy helpers! For thy God helps thee. And David received them, and made them chiefs of bands.

¹⁸時に霊が三十人の長アマサイに臨み、アマサイは言った、「ダビデよ、われわれはあなたのもの。エッサイの子よ、われわれはあなたと共にある。平安あれ、あなたに平安あれ。あなたを助ける者に平安あれ。あなたの神があなたを助けられる」。そこでダビデは彼らを受けいれて部隊の長とした。

¹⁹And there fell some of Manasseh to David, when he came with the Philistines against Saul to battle: but they helped them not; for the lords of the Philistines upon deliberation sent him away, saying, He will fall to his master Saul at the peril of our heads.

¹⁹さきにダビデがペリシテびとと共にサウルと戦おうと攻めて来たとき、マナセびと数人がダビデについた。（ただしダビデはついにペリシテびとを助けなかった。それはペリシテびとの君たちが相はかって、「彼はわれわれの首をとって、その主君サウルのもとに帰るであろう」と言って、彼を去らせたからである。）

²⁰As he went away to Ziklag, there fell to him of Manasseh: Adnah, and Jozabad, and Jediael, and Michael, and Jozabad, and Elihu, and Zilthai, captains of the thousands that were of Manasseh.

²⁰ダビデがチクラグへ行ったとき、マナセびとアデナ、ヨザバデ、エデアエル、ミカエル、ヨザバデ、エリウ、ヂルタイが彼についた。皆マナセびとの千人の長であった。

²¹And they helped David in his expeditions; for they were all mighty men of valour, and were captains in the host.

²¹彼らはダビデを助けて敵軍に当った。彼らは皆大勇士で軍勢の長であった。

²²For day by day there came [men] to David to help him, until it was a great camp, like the camp of God.

²²ダビデを助ける者が日に日に加わって、ついに大軍となり、神の軍勢のようになった。

²³And this is the number of the men equipped for military service, who came to David to Hebron, to transfer the kingdom of Saul to him, according to the word of Jehovah.

²³主の言葉に従い、サウルの国をダビデに与えようとして、ヘブロンにいるダビデのもとに来た武装した軍隊の数は、次のとおりである。

²⁴The children of Judah that bore shield and spear were six thousand eight hundred, equipped for military service.

²⁴ユダの子孫で盾とやりをとり、武装した者六千八百人、

²⁵Of the children of Simeon, mighty men of valour for war, seven thousand one hundred.

²⁵シメオンの子孫で、よく戦う勇士七千百人、

²⁶Of the children of Levi four thousand six hundred.

²⁶レビの子孫からは四千六百人。

²⁷And Jehoiada the prince of Aaron, and with him were three thousand seven hundred;

²⁷エホヤダはアロンの家のつかさで、彼に属する者は三千七百人。

²⁸and Zadok, a valiant young man, and his father's house two and twenty chief men.

²⁸ザドクは年若い勇士で、彼の氏族から出た将軍は二十二人。

²⁹And of the children of Benjamin, the brethren of Saul, three thousand; but hitherto the greater part of them had adhered to the house of Saul.

²⁹サウルの同族、ベニヤミンの子孫からは三千人、ベニヤミンびとの多くはなおサウルの家に忠義をつくしていた。

³⁰And of the children of Ephraim twenty thousand eight hundred, mighty men of valour, men of name in their fathers' houses.

³⁰エフライムの子孫からは二万八百人、皆勇士で、その氏族の名ある人々であった。

³¹And of the half tribe of Manasseh eighteen thousand, who were expressed by name, to come and make David king.

³¹マナセの半部族からは一万八千人、皆ダビデを王に立てようとして上って来て、名をつらねた者である。

³²And of the children of Issachar, who had understanding of the times, to know what Israel ought to do, the heads of them were two hundred; and all their brethren were at their bidding.

³²イッサカルの子孫からはよく時勢に通じ、イスラエルのなすべきことをわきまえた人々が来た。その長たる者が二百人あって、その兄弟たちは皆その指揮に従った。

³³Of Zebulun, such as went forth in the host, armed for war with all weapons of war, fifty thousand, keeping rank without double heart.

³³ゼブルンからは五万人、皆訓練を経た軍隊で、もろもろの武具で身をよろい、一心にダビデを助けた者である。

³⁴And of Naphtali a thousand captains, and with them thirty-seven thousand with shield and spear.

³⁴ナフタリからは将たる者一千人および盾とやりをとってこれに従う者三万七千人。

³⁵And of the Danites armed for war twenty-eight thousand six hundred.

³⁵ダンびとからは武装した者二万八千六百人。

³⁶And of Asher such as went forth in the host, to set themselves in battle array, forty thousand.

³⁶アセルからは戦いの備えをした熟練の者四万人。

³⁷And from the other side of the Jordan, of the Reubenites, and the Gadites, and of the half tribe of Manasseh, with all manner of weapons of war for battle, a hundred and twenty thousand.

³⁷またヨルダンのかなたルベンびと、ガドびと、マナセの半部族からはもろもろの武具で身をよろった者十二万人であった。

³⁸All of them men of war, keeping rank in battle array, came with a perfect heart to Hebron, to make David king over all Israel; and all the rest also of Israel were of one heart to make David king.

³⁸すべてこれらの戦いの備えをしたいくさびとらは真心をもってヘブロンに来て、ダビデを全イスラエルの王にしようとした。このほかのイスラエルびともまた、心をひとつにしてダビデを王にしようとした。

³⁹And there they were with David three days, eating and drinking; for their brethren had prepared for them;

³⁹彼らはヘブロンにダビデとともに三日いて、食い飲みした。その兄弟たちは彼らのために備えをしたからである。また彼らに近い人々はイッサカル、ゼブルン、ナフタリなどの遠い所の者まで、ろば、らくだ、騾馬、牛などに食物を負わせて来た。すなわち麦粉の食物、干いちじく、干ぶどう、ぶどう酒、油、牛、羊などを多く携えて来た。これはイスラエルに喜びがあったからである。

⁴⁰and those too that were near them, as far as Issachar and Zebulun and Naphtali, brought food on asses, and on camels, and on mules, and on oxen; provisions of meal, fig-cakes and raisin-cakes, and wine and oil, and oxen and sheep, abundantly; for there was joy in Israel.

⁴⁰また彼らに近い人々はイッサカル、ゼブルン、ナフタリなどの遠い所の者まで、ろば、らくだ、騾馬、牛などに食物を負わせて来た。すなわち麦粉の食物、干いちじく、干ぶどう、ぶどう酒、油、牛、羊などを多く携えて来た。これはイスラエルに喜びがあったからである。
