¹In the thirty-sixth year of the reign of Asa, Baasha king of Israel came up against Judah, and built Ramah, in order to let none go out or come in to Asa king of Judah.

¹アサの治世の三十六年にイスラエルの王バアシャはユダに攻め上り、ユダの王アサの所にだれをも出入りさせないためにラマを築いた。

²And Asa brought out silver and gold out of the treasures of the house of Jehovah and of the king's house, and sent to Ben-hadad king of Syria, who dwelt at Damascus, saying,

²そこでアサは主の宮と王の家の宝蔵から金銀を取り出し、ダマスコに住んでいるスリヤの王ベネハダデに贈って言った、

³There is a league between me and thee, and between my father and thy father: behold, I send thee silver and gold; go, break thy league with Baasha king of Israel, that he may depart from me.

³「わたしの父とあなたの父の間のように、わたしとあなたの間に同盟を結びましょう。わたしはあなたに金銀を贈ります。行って、あなたとイスラエルの王バアシャとの同盟を破り、彼をわたしから撤退させてください」。

⁴And Ben-hadad hearkened to king Asa, and sent the captains of his forces against the cities of Israel; and they smote Ijon and Dan and Abelmaim, and all the store-magazines of the cities of Naphtali.

⁴ベネハダデはアサ王の言うことを聞き、自分の軍勢の長たちをつかわしてイスラエルの町々を攻め、イヨンとダンとアベル・マイムおよびナフタリのすべての倉の町を撃った。

⁵And it came to pass when Baasha heard of it, that he left off building Ramah, and let his work cease.

⁵バアシャはこれを聞いて、ラマを築くことをやめ、その工事を廃した。

⁶And king Asa took all Judah; and they carried away the stones and the timber from Ramah, with which Baasha had been building, and he built with them Geba and Mizpah.

⁶そこでアサ王はユダの全国の人々を引き連れ、バアシャがラマを建てるために用いた石と木材を運んでこさせ、それをもってゲバとミヅパを建てた。

⁷And at that time Hanani the seer came to Asa king of Judah, and said unto him, Because thou hast relied on the king of Syria, and hast not relied on Jehovah thy God, therefore has the army of the king of Syria escaped out of thy hand.

⁷そのころ先見者ハナニがユダの王アサのもとに来て言った、「あなたがスリヤの王に寄り頼んで、あなたの神、主に寄り頼まなかったので、スリヤ王の軍勢はあなたの手からのがれてしまった。

⁸Were not the Ethiopians and the Libyans a huge army, with very many chariots and horsemen? but when thou didst rely on Jehovah, he delivered them into thy hand.

⁸かのエチオピヤびとと、リビアびとは大軍で、その戦車と騎兵は、はなはだ多かったではないか。しかしあなたが主に寄り頼んだので、主は彼らをあなたの手に渡された。

⁹For the eyes of Jehovah run to and fro through the whole earth, to shew himself strong in the behalf of those whose heart is perfect toward him. Herein thou hast done foolishly; for from henceforth thou shalt have wars.

⁹主の目はあまねく全地を行きめぐり、自分に向かって心を全うする者のために力をあらわされる。今度の事では、あなたは愚かな事をした。ゆえにこの後、あなたに戦争が臨むであろう」。

¹⁰And Asa was wroth with the seer, and put him in the prison; for he was enraged with him because of this. And Asa oppressed some of the people at the same time.

¹⁰するとアサはその先見者を怒って、獄屋に入れた。この事のために激しく彼を怒ったからである。アサはまたそのころ民のある者をしえたげた。

¹¹And behold the acts of Asa, first and last, behold, they are written in the book of the kings of Judah and Israel.

¹¹見よ、アサの始終の行為は、ユダとイスラエルの列王の書にしるされている。

¹²And Asa in the thirty-ninth year of his reign was diseased in his feet, until his disease was extremely great; yet in his disease he did not seek Jehovah, but the physicians.

¹²アサはその治世の三十九年に足を病み、その病は激しくなったが、その病の時にも、主を求めないで医者を求めた。

¹³And Asa slept with his fathers, and died in the one-and-fortieth year of his reign.

¹³アサは先祖たちと共に眠り、その治世の四十一年に死んだ。人々は彼が自分のためにダビデの町に掘っておいた墓に葬り、製香の術をもって造った様々の香料を満たした床に横たえ、彼のためにおびただしく香をたいた。

¹⁴And they buried him in his own sepulchre, which he had excavated for himself in the city of David, and laid him in a bed filled with spices, a mixture of divers kinds prepared by the perfumer's art; and they made a very great burning for him.

¹⁴人々は彼が自分のためにダビデの町に掘っておいた墓に葬り、製香の術をもって造った様々の香料を満たした床に横たえ、彼のためにおびただしく香をたいた。
