¹And Jehoshaphat his son reigned in his stead, and strengthened himself against Israel.

²And he placed forces in all the fortified cities of Judah, and set garrisons in the land of Judah, and in the cities of Ephraim that Asa his father had taken.

²ユダのすべての堅固な町々に軍隊を置き、またユダの地およびその父アサが取ったエフライムの町々に守備隊を置いた。

³And Jehovah was with Jehoshaphat, for he walked in the first ways of his father David, and sought not unto the Baals;

⁴but he sought the God of his father, and walked in his commandments, and not after the doings of Israel.

⁵And Jehovah established the kingdom in his hand; and all Judah gave gifts to Jehoshaphat; and he had riches and honour in abundance.

⁵それゆえ、主は国を彼の手に堅く立てられ、またユダの人々は皆ヨシャパテに贈り物を持ってきた。彼は大いなる富と誉とを得た。

⁶And he took courage in the ways of Jehovah; moreover, he removed the high places and Asherahs out of Judah.

⁶そこで彼は主の道に心を励まし、さらに高き所とアシラ像とをユダから除いた。

⁷And in the third year of his reign he sent his princes, Ben-hail, and Obadiah, and Zechariah, and Nethaneel, and Micah, to teach in the cities of Judah;

⁷彼はまたその治世の三年に、つかさたちベネハイル、オバデヤ、ゼカリヤ、ネタンエルおよびミカヤをつかわしてユダの町々で教えさせ、

⁸and with them the Levites: Shemaiah, and Nethaniah, and Zebadiah, and Asahel, and Shemiramoth, and Jonathan, and Adonijah, and Tobijah, and Tob-Adonijah, Levites; and with them Elishama and Jehoram, the priests.

⁸また彼らと共にレビびとのうちからシマヤ、ネタニヤ、ゼバデヤ、アサヘル、セミラモテ、ヨナタン、アドニヤ、トビヤ、トバドニヤをつかわし、またこれらのレビびとと共に祭司エリシャマとヨラムをもつかわした。

⁹And they taught in Judah, and had the book of the law of Jehovah with them; and they went about through all the cities of Judah, and taught among the people.

⁹彼らは主の律法の書を携えて、ユダで教をなし、またユダの町々をことごとく巡回して、民の間に教をなした。

¹⁰And the terror of Jehovah was upon all the kingdoms of the lands that were round about Judah, and they made no war against Jehoshaphat.

¹⁰そこでユダの周囲の国々は皆主を恐れ、ヨシャパテと戦うことをしなかった。

¹¹And some of the Philistines brought Jehoshaphat gifts and tribute-silver. The Arabians also brought him flocks, seven thousand seven hundred rams, and seven thousand seven hundred he-goats.

¹¹また、ペリシテびとのうちで贈り物や、みつぎの銀をヨシャパテの所に持ってくる者があり、またアラビヤびとは雄羊七千七百頭、雄やぎ七千七百頭を彼に持ってきた。

¹²And Jehoshaphat waxed exceeding great; and he built in Judah castles and store-cities.

¹²こうしてヨシャパテはますます大いになり、ユダに要害および倉の町を建て、

¹³And he had much business in the cities of Judah; and men of war, strong and valiant, in Jerusalem.

¹³ユダの町々に多くの軍需品を持ち、またエルサレムに大勇士である軍人たちを持っていた。

¹⁴And these are the numbers of them according to their fathers' houses. Of Judah the captains of thousands: Adnah the captain, and with him three hundred thousand mighty men of valour;

¹⁴彼らをその氏族によって数えれば次のとおりである。すなわちユダから出た千人の長のうちでは、アデナという軍長と彼に従う大勇士三十万人、

¹⁵and next to him was Johanan the captain, and with him two hundred and eighty thousand;

¹⁵その次は軍長ヨハナンと彼に従う者二十八万人、

¹⁶and next to him, Amasiah the son of Zichri, who willingly offered himself to Jehovah; and with him two hundred thousand mighty men of valour.

¹⁶その次は喜んでその身を主にささげた者ジクリの子アマジヤと彼に従う大勇士二十万人。

¹⁷And of Benjamin: Eliada, a mighty man of valour, and with him two hundred thousand, armed with bow and shield;

¹⁷ベニヤミンから出た者のうちでは、エリアダという大勇士と彼に従う弓および盾を持つ者二十万人、

¹⁸and next to him was Jehozabad, and with him a hundred and eighty thousand ready prepared for war.

¹⁸その次はヨザバデと彼に従う戦いの備えある者十八万人である。これらは皆王に仕える者たちで、このほかにまたユダ全国の堅固な町々に、王が駐在させた者があった。

¹⁹These were they that waited on the king, besides those that the king had put in the fortified cities throughout Judah.
