¹And it came to pass when mankind began to multiply on the earth, and daughters were born to them,

¹人が地のおもてにふえ始めて、娘たちが彼らに生れた時、

²that the sons of God saw the daughters of men that they were fair, and took themselves wives of all that they chose.

²神の子たちは人の娘たちの美しいのを見て、自分の好む者を妻にめとった。

³And Jehovah said, My Spirit shall not always plead with Man; for he indeed is flesh; but his days shall be a hundred and twenty years.

³そこで主は言われた、「わたしの霊はながく人の中にとどまらない。彼は肉にすぎないのだ。しかし、彼の年は百二十年であろう」。

⁴In those days were the giants on the earth, and also afterwards, when the sons of God had come in to the daughters of men, and they had borne [children] to them; these were the heroes, who of old were men of renown.

⁴そのころ、またその後にも、地にネピリムがいた。これは神の子たちが人の娘たちのところにはいって、娘たちに産ませたものである。彼らは昔の勇士であり、有名な人々であった。

⁵And Jehovah saw that the wickedness of Man was great on the earth, and every imagination of the thoughts of his heart only evil continually.

⁵主は人の悪が地にはびこり、すべてその心に思いはかることが、いつも悪い事ばかりであるのを見られた。

⁶And Jehovah repented that he had made Man on the earth, and it grieved him in his heart.

⁶主は地の上に人を造ったのを悔いて、心を痛め、

⁷And Jehovah said, I will destroy Man, whom I have created, from the earth -- from man to cattle, to creeping things, and to fowl of the heavens; for I repent that I have made them.

⁷「わたしが創造した人を地のおもてからぬぐい去ろう。人も獣も、這うものも、空の鳥までも。わたしは、これらを造ったことを悔いる」と言われた。

⁸But Noah found favour in the eyes of Jehovah.

⁸しかし、ノアは主の前に恵みを得た。

⁹This is the history of Noah. Noah was a just man, perfect amongst his generations: Noah walked with God.

⁹ノアの系図は次のとおりである。ノアはその時代の人々の中で正しく、かつ全き人であった。ノアは神とともに歩んだ。

¹⁰And Noah begot three sons, Shem, Ham, and Japheth.

¹⁰ノアはセム、ハム、ヤペテの三人の子を生んだ。

¹¹And the earth was corrupt before God, and the earth was full of violence.

¹¹時に世は神の前に乱れて、暴虐が地に満ちた。

¹²And God looked upon the earth, and behold, it was corrupt; for all flesh had corrupted its way on the earth.

¹²神が地を見られると、それは乱れていた。すべての人が地の上でその道を乱したからである。

¹³And God said to Noah, The end of all flesh is come before me, for the earth is full of violence through them; and behold, I will destroy them with the earth.

¹³そこで神はノアに言われた、「わたしは、すべての人を絶やそうと決心した。彼らは地を暴虐で満たしたから、わたしは彼らを地とともに滅ぼそう。

¹⁴Make thyself an ark of gopher wood: [with] cells shalt thou make the ark; and pitch it inside and outside with pitch.

¹⁴あなたは、いとすぎの木で箱舟を造り、箱舟の中にへやを設け、アスファルトでそのうちそとを塗りなさい。

¹⁵And thus shalt thou make it: let the length of the ark be three hundred cubits, the breadth of it fifty cubits, and the height of it thirty cubits.

¹⁵その造り方は次のとおりである。すなわち箱舟の長さは三百キュビト、幅は五十キュビト、高さは三十キュビトとし、

¹⁶A light shalt thou make to the ark; and to a cubit high shalt thou finish it above. And the door of the ark shalt thou set in its side: [with] a lower, second, and third [story] shalt thou make it.

¹⁶箱舟に屋根を造り、上へ一キュビトにそれを仕上げ、また箱舟の戸口をその横に設けて、一階と二階と三階のある箱舟を造りなさい。

¹⁷For I, behold, I bring a flood of waters on the earth, to destroy all flesh under the heavens in which is the breath of life: everything that is on the earth shall expire.

¹⁷わたしは地の上に洪水を送って、命の息のある肉なるものを、みな天の下から滅ぼし去る。地にあるものは、みな死に絶えるであろう。

¹⁸But with thee will I establish my covenant; and thou shalt go into the ark, thou, and thy sons, and thy wife, and thy sons' wives with thee.

¹⁸ただし、わたしはあなたと契約を結ぼう。あなたは子らと、妻と、子らの妻たちと共に箱舟にはいりなさい。

¹⁹And of every living thing of all flesh, two of every [sort] shalt thou bring into the ark, to keep [them] alive with thee: they shall be male and female.

¹⁹またすべての生き物、すべての肉なるものの中から、それぞれ二つずつを箱舟に入れて、あなたと共にその命を保たせなさい。それらは雄と雌とでなければならない。

²⁰Of fowl after their kind, and of the cattle after their kind, of every creeping thing of the ground after its kind, two of each shall go in to thee, to keep [them] alive.

²⁰すなわち、鳥はその種類にしたがい獣はその種類にしたがい、また地のすべての這うものも、その種類にしたがって、それぞれ二つずつ、あなたのところに入れて、命を保たせなさい。

²¹And take thou of all food that is eaten, and gather [it] to thee, that it may be for food for thee and for them.

²¹また、すべての食物となるものをとって、あなたのところにたくわえ、あなたとこれらのものとの食物としなさい」。ノアはすべて神の命じられたようにした。

²²And Noah did it; according to all that God had commanded him, so did he.
