¹And Jehovah answered Job and said,

¹主はまたヨブに答えて言われた、

²Shall he that will contend with the Almighty instruct [him]? he that reproveth +God, let him answer it.

²「非難する者が全能者と争おうとするのか、神と論ずる者はこれに答えよ」。

³And Job answered Jehovah and said,

³そこで、ヨブは主に答えて言った、

⁴Behold, I am nought: what shall I answer thee? I will lay my hand upon my mouth.

⁴「見よ、わたしはまことに卑しい者です、なんとあなたに答えましょうか。ただ手を口に当てるのみです。

⁵Once have I spoken, and I will not answer; yea twice, but I will proceed no further.

⁵わたしはすでに一度言いました、また言いません、すでに二度言いました、重ねて申しません」。

⁶And Jehovah answered Job out of the whirlwind and said,

⁶主はまたつむじ風の中からヨブに答えられた、

⁷Gird up now thy loins like a man: I will demand of thee, and inform thou me.

⁷「あなたは腰に帯して、男らしくせよ。わたしはあなたに尋ねる、わたしに答えよ。

⁸Wilt thou also annul my judgment? wilt thou condemn me that thou mayest be righteous?

⁸あなたはなお、わたしに責任を負わそうとするのか。あなたはわたしを非とし、自分を是としようとするのか。

⁹Hast thou an arm like ùGod? or canst thou thunder with a voice like him?

⁹あなたは神のような腕を持っているのか、神のような声でとどろきわたることができるか。

¹⁰Deck thyself now with glory and excellency, and clothe thyself with majesty and splendour.

¹⁰あなたは威光と尊厳とをもってその身を飾り、栄光と華麗とをもってその身を装ってみよ。

¹¹Cast abroad the ragings of thine anger, and look on every one that is proud, and abase him:

¹¹あなたのあふるる怒りを漏らし、すべての高ぶる者を見て、これを低くせよ。

¹²Look on every one that is proud, bring him low, and tread down the wicked in their place:

¹²すべての高ぶる者を見て、これをかがませ、また悪人をその所で踏みつけ、

¹³Hide them in the dust together; bind their faces in secret.

¹³彼らをともにちりの中にうずめ、その顔を隠れた所に閉じこめよ。

¹⁴Then will I also praise thee, because thy right hand saveth thee.

¹⁴そうすれば、わたしもまた、あなたをほめて、あなたの右の手はあなたを救うことができるとしよう。

¹⁵See now the behemoth, which I made with thee: he eateth grass as an ox.

¹⁵河馬を見よ、これはあなたと同様にわたしが造ったもので、牛のように草を食う。

¹⁶Behold now, his strength is in his loins, and his force is in the muscles of his belly.

¹⁶見よ、その力は腰にあり、その勢いは腹の筋にある。

¹⁷He bendeth his tail like a cedar; the sinews of his thighs are woven together.

¹⁷これはその尾を香柏のように動かし、そのももの筋は互にからみ合う。

¹⁸His bones are tubes of bronze, his members are like bars of iron.

¹⁸その骨は青銅の管のようで、その肋骨は鉄の棒のようだ。

¹⁹He is the chief of ùGod's ways: he that made him gave him his sword.

¹⁹これは神のわざの第一のものであって、これを造った者がこれにつるぎを授けた。

²⁰For the mountains bring him forth food, where all the beasts of the field play.

²⁰山もこれがために食物をいだし、もろもろの野の獣もそこに遊ぶ。

²¹He lieth under lotus-bushes, in the covert of the reed and fen:

²¹これは酸棗の木の下に伏し、葦の茂み、または沼に隠れている。

²²Lotus-bushes cover him with their shade; the willows of the brook surround him.

²²酸棗の木はその陰でこれをおおい、川の柳はこれをめぐり囲む。

²³Lo, the river overfloweth -- he startleth not: he is confident though a Jordan break forth against his mouth.

²³見よ、たとい川が荒れても、これは驚かない。ヨルダンがその口に注ぎかかっても、これはあわてない。だれが、かぎでこれを捕えることができるか。だれが、わなでその鼻を貫くことができるか。

²⁴Shall he be taken in front? will they pierce through [his] nose in the trap?

²⁴だれが、かぎでこれを捕えることができるか。だれが、わなでその鼻を貫くことができるか。
