¹A false balance is an abomination to Jehovah; but a just weight is his delight.

¹偽りのはかりは主に憎まれ、正しいふんどうは彼に喜ばれる。

²[When] pride cometh, then cometh shame; but with the lowly is wisdom.

²高ぶりが来れば、恥もまた来る、へりくだる者には知恵がある。

³The integrity of the upright guideth them; but the crookedness of the unfaithful destroyeth them.

³正しい者の誠実はその人を導き、不信実な者のよこしまはその人を滅ぼす。

⁴Wealth profiteth not in the day of wrath; but righteousness delivereth from death.

⁴宝は怒りの日に益なく、正義は人を救い出して、死を免れさせる。

⁵The righteousness of the perfect maketh plain his way; but the wicked falleth by his own wickedness.

⁵誠実な者は、その正義によって、その道をまっすぐにせられ、悪しき者は、その悪によって倒れる。

⁶The righteousness of the upright delivereth them; but the treacherous are taken in their own craving.

⁶正しい者はその正義によって救われ、不信実な者は自分の欲によって捕えられる。

⁷When a wicked man dieth, [his] expectation shall perish; and the hope of evil [men] perisheth.

⁷悪しき者は死ぬとき、その望みは絶え、不信心な者の望みもまた絶える。

⁸The righteous is delivered out of trouble, and the wicked cometh in his stead.

⁸正しい者は、悩みから救われ、悪しき者は代ってそれに陥る。

⁹With his mouth a hypocrite destroyeth his neighbour; but through knowledge are the righteous delivered.

⁹不信心な者はその口をもって隣り人を滅ぼす、正しい者は知識によって救われる。

¹⁰When it goeth well with the righteous, the city rejoiceth; and when the wicked perish, there is shouting.

¹⁰正しい者が、しあわせになれば、その町は喜び、悪しき者が滅びると、喜びの声がおこる。

¹¹By the blessing of the upright the city is exalted; but it is overthrown by the mouth of the wicked.

¹¹町は正しい者の祝福によって、高くあげられ、悪しき者の口によって、滅ぼされる。

¹²He that despiseth his neighbour is void of heart; but a man of understanding holdeth his peace.

¹²隣り人を侮る者は知恵がない、さとき人は口をつぐむ。

¹³He that goeth about talebearing revealeth secrets; but he that is of a faithful spirit concealeth the matter.

¹³人のよしあしを言いあるく者は秘密をもらす、心の忠信なる者は事を隠す。

¹⁴Where no advice is, the people fall; but in the multitude of counsellors there is safety.

¹⁴指導者がなければ民は倒れ、助言者が多ければ安全である。

¹⁵It goeth ill with him that is surety for another; but he that hateth suretyship is secure.

¹⁵他人のために保証をする者は苦しみをうけ、保証をきらう者は安全である。

¹⁶A gracious woman retaineth honour; and the violent retain riches.

¹⁶しとやかな女は、誉を得、強暴な男は富を得る。

¹⁷The merciful man doeth good to his own soul; but the cruel troubleth his own flesh.

¹⁷いつくしみある者はおのれ自身に益を得、残忍な者はおのれの身をそこなう。

¹⁸The wicked worketh a deceitful work; but he that soweth righteousness hath a sure reward.

¹⁸悪しき者の得る報いはむなしく、正義を播く者は確かな報いを得る。

¹⁹As righteousness [tendeth] to life, so he that pursueth evil [doeth it] to his own death.

¹⁹正義を堅く保つ者は命に至り、悪を追い求める者は死を招く。

²⁰The perverse in heart are abomination to Jehovah; but they that are perfect in [their] way are his delight.

²⁰心のねじけた者は主に憎まれ、まっすぐに道を歩む者は彼に喜ばれる。

²¹Hand for hand! an evil [man] shall not be held innocent; but the seed of the righteous shall be delivered.

²¹確かに、悪人は罰を免れない、しかし正しい人は救を得る。

²²A fair woman who is without discretion, is [as] a gold ring in a swine's snout.

²²美しい女の慎みがないのは、金の輪の、ぶたの鼻にあるようだ。

²³The desire of the righteous is only good; the expectation of the wicked is wrath.

²³正しい者の願いは、すべて良い結果を得、悪しき者の望みは怒りに至る。

²⁴There is that scattereth, and yet increaseth; and there is that withholdeth more than is right, but [it tendeth] only to want.

²⁴施し散らして、なお富を増す人があり、与えるべきものを惜しんで、かえって貧しくなる者がある。

²⁵The liberal soul shall be made fat, and he that watereth shall be watered also himself.

²⁵物惜しみしない者は富み、人を潤す者は自分も潤される。

²⁶He that withholdeth corn, the people curse him; but blessing shall be upon the head of him that selleth it.

²⁶穀物を、しまい込んで売らない者は民にのろわれる、それを売る者のこうべには祝福がある。

²⁷He that is earnest after good seeketh favour; but he that searcheth for mischief, it shall come upon him.

²⁷善を求める者は恵みを得る、悪を求める者には悪が来る。

²⁸He that trusteth in his riches shall fall; but the righteous shall flourish as a leaf.

²⁸自分の富を頼む者は衰える、正しい者は木の青葉のように栄える。

²⁹He that troubleth his own house shall inherit wind; and the fool shall be servant to the wise of heart.

²⁹自分の家族を苦しめる者は風を所有とする、愚かな者は心のさとき者のしもべとなる。

³⁰The fruit of the righteous is a tree of life; and the wise winneth souls.

³⁰正しい者の結ぶ実は命の木である、不法な者は人の命をとる。もし正しい者がこの世で罰せられるならば、悪しき者と罪びととは、なおさらである。

³¹Behold, the righteous shall be requited on the earth: how much more the wicked and the sinner.
