¹My son, if thou receivest my words, and layest up my commandments with thee,

¹わが子よ、もしあなたがわたしの言葉を受け、わたしの戒めを、あなたの心におさめ、

²so that thou incline thine ear unto wisdom [and] thou apply thy heart to understanding;

²あなたの耳を知恵に傾け、あなたの心を悟りに向け、

³yea, if thou criest after discernment [and] liftest up thy voice to understanding;

³しかも、もし知識を呼び求め、悟りを得ようと、あなたの声をあげ、

⁴if thou seekest her as silver and searchest for her as for hidden treasures:

⁴銀を求めるように、これを求め、かくれた宝を尋ねるように、これを尋ねるならば、

⁵then shalt thou understand the fear of Jehovah, and find the knowledge of God.

⁵あなたは、主を恐れることを悟り、神を知ることができるようになる。

⁶For Jehovah giveth wisdom; out of his mouth [come] knowledge and understanding.

⁶これは、主が知恵を与え、知識と悟りとは、み口から出るからである。

⁷He layeth up sound wisdom for the upright; [he] is a shield to them that walk in integrity;

⁷彼は正しい人のために、確かな知恵をたくわえ、誠実に歩む者の盾となって、

⁸guarding the paths of just judgment and keeping the way of his godly ones.

⁸公正の道を保ち、その聖徒たちの道筋を守られる。

⁹Then shalt thou understand righteousness and judgment and equity: every good path.

⁹そのとき、あなたは、ついに正義と公正、公平とすべての良い道を悟る。

¹⁰When wisdom entereth into thy heart and knowledge is pleasant unto thy soul,

¹⁰これは知恵が、あなたの心にはいり、知識があなたの魂に楽しみとなるからである。

¹¹discretion shall keep thee, understanding shall preserve thee:

¹¹慎みはあなたを守り、悟りはあなたを保って、

¹²To deliver thee from the way of evil, from the man that speaketh froward things;

¹²悪の道からあなたを救い、偽りをいう者から救う。

¹³[from those] who leave the paths of uprightness, to walk in the ways of darkness;

¹³彼らは正しい道を離れて、暗い道に歩み、

¹⁴who rejoice to do evil, [and] delight in the frowardness of evil;

¹⁴悪を行うことを楽しみ、悪人の偽りを喜び、

¹⁵whose paths are crooked, and who are perverted in their course:

¹⁵その道は曲り、その行いは、よこしまである。

¹⁶To deliver thee from the strange woman, from the stranger who flattereth with her words;

¹⁶慎みと悟りはまたあなたを遊女から救い、言葉の巧みな、みだらな女から救う。

¹⁷who forsaketh the guide of her youth, and forgetteth the covenant of her God;

¹⁷彼女は若い時の友を捨て、その神に契約したことを忘れている。

¹⁸-- for her house inclineth unto death, and her paths unto the dead;

¹⁸その家は死に下り、その道は陰府におもむく。

¹⁹none that go unto her return again, neither do they attain to the paths of life:

¹⁹すべて彼女のもとへ行く者は、帰らない、また命の道にいたらない。

²⁰-- that thou mayest walk in the way of the good, and keep the paths of the righteous.

²⁰こうして、あなたは善良な人々の道に歩み、正しい人々の道を守ることができる。

²¹For the upright shall dwell in the land, and the perfect shall remain in it;

²¹正しい人は地にながらえ、誠実な人は地にとどまる。しかし悪しき者は地から断ち滅ぼされ、不信実な者は地から抜き捨てられる。

²²but the wicked shall be cut off from the land, and the unfaithful shall be plucked up out of it.
