1{To the chief Musician. Upon the Gittith. [A Psalm] of Asaph.} Sing ye joyously unto God our strength, shout aloud unto the God of Jacob;

2Raise a song, and sound the tambour, the pleasant harp with the lute.
2歌をうたい、鼓を打て。良い音の琴と立琴とをかきならせ。
3Blow the trumpet at the new moon, at the set time, on our feast day:
3新月と満月とわれらの祭の日とにラッパを吹きならせ。
4For this is a statute for Israel, an ordinance of the God of Jacob;
4これはイスラエルの定め、ヤコブの神のおきてである。
5He ordained it in Joseph [for] a testimony, when he went forth over the land of Egypt, [where] I heard a language that I knew not.
5神が出てエジプトの国を攻められたとき、ヨセフのなかにこれを立てて、あかしとされた。わたしはかしこでまだ知らなかった言葉を聞いた、
6I removed his shoulder from the burden; his hands were freed from the basket.
6「わたしはあなたの肩から重荷をのぞき、あなたの手をかごから免れさせた。
7Thou calledst in trouble, and I delivered thee; I answered thee in the secret place of thunder; I proved thee at the waters of Meribah. Selah.
7あなたが悩んだとき、呼ばわったのでわたしはあなたを救った。わたしは雷の隠れた所で、あなたに答え、メリバの水のほとりで、あなたを試みた。〔セラ
8Hear, my people, and I will testify unto thee; O Israel, if thou wouldest hearken unto me!
8わが民よ、聞け、わたしはあなたに勧告する。イスラエルよ、あなたがわたしに聞き従うことを望む。
9There shall no strange ùgod be in thee, neither shalt thou worship any foreign ùgod.
9あなたのうちに他の神があってはならない。あなたは外国の神を拝んではならない。
10I am Jehovah thy God, that brought thee up out of the land of Egypt: open thy mouth wide, and I will fill it.
10わたしはエジプトの国から、あなたをつれ出したあなたの神、主である。あなたの口を広くあけよ、わたしはそれを満たそう。
11But my people hearkened not to my voice, and Israel would none of me.
11しかしわが民はわたしの声に聞き従わず、イスラエルはわたしを好まなかった。
12So I gave them up unto their own hearts' stubbornness: they walked after their own counsels.
12それゆえ、わたしは彼らをそのかたくなな心にまかせ、その思いのままに行くにまかせた。
13Oh that my people had hearkened unto me, that Israel had walked in my ways!
13わたしはわが民のわたしに聞き従い、イスラエルのわが道に歩むことを欲する。
14I would soon have subdued their enemies, and turned my hand against their adversaries.
14わたしはすみやかに彼らの敵を従え、わが手を彼らのあだに向けよう。
15The haters of Jehovah would have come cringing unto him; but their time would have been for ever.
15主を憎む者も彼らに恐れ従い、彼らの時はとこしえに続くであろう。わたしは麦の最も良いものをもってあなたを養い、岩から出た蜜をもってあなたを飽かせるであろう」。
16And he would have fed them with the finest of wheat; yea, with honey out of the rock would I have satisfied thee.
