¹Hear this word, a lamentation, which I take up against you, O house of Israel.

¹[Ny handravana ny fanjakan'Isiraely] Henoinareo izao teny izao, izay entiko milaza anareo, dia hira fahalahelovana, ry taranak'Isiraely;

²The virgin of Israel is fallen; she shall no more arise: she is cast down upon her land; there is none to raise her up.

²Lavo Isiraely virijina ka tsy hahatsangana intsony; Nazera tamin'ny taniny izy, ka tsy misy mangana azy.

³For thus saith the Lord Jehovah: The city that went forth a thousand shall have a hundred left, and that which went forth a hundred shall have ten left, for the house of Israel.

³Fa izao no lazain'i Jehovah Tompo: Izay tanàna namoaka arivo, dia, indreo, zato monja no sisa: ary izay namoaka zato, dia, indreo, folo monja no sisa ho an'ny taranak'Isiraely.

⁴For thus saith Jehovah unto the house of Israel: Seek ye me, and ye shall live.

⁴Fa izao no lazain'i Jehovah amin'ny taranak'Isiraely; Tadiavo Aho, dia ho velona ianareo;

⁵And seek not Bethel, neither go to Gilgal, and pass not to Beer-sheba; for Gilgal shall surely go into captivity, and Bethel shall come to nought.

⁵Fa aza mitady an'i Betela, na mankany Gilgala, ary aza mandroso ho any Beri-sheba; Fa ho babo tokoa Gilgala, ary Betela dia ho tonga tsinontsinona.

⁶Seek Jehovah, and ye shall live; lest he break out like fire in the house of Joseph, and devour [it], and there be none to quench [it] in Bethel.

⁶Mitadiava an'i Jehovah, dia ho velona ianareo; Fandrao hilatsaka toy ny afo mandevona amin'ny taranak'i Josefa Izy, ary Betela tsy hanana izay hahafaty ny afo,

⁷Ye who turn judgment to wormwood, and cast down righteousness to the earth,

⁷Dia ianareo izay mamadika ny rariny ho zava-mahafaty ary mampiongana ny fahamarinana ho eo amin'ny tany.

⁸[seek him] that made the Pleiades and Orion, and turneth the shadow of death into the morning, and maketh the day dark with night; that calleth for the waters of the sea, and poureth them out upon the face of the earth: Jehovah is his name.

⁸Ilay nanao an'Ikotokelimiadilaona sy ny Telonohorefy, ary mampody ny aloky ny fahafatesana ho maraina sy manamaizina ny andro ho alina, dia ilay miantso ny rano ao an-dranomasina ka mandatsaka azy amin'ny tany: Jehovah no anarany,

⁹He causeth destruction to break forth suddenly upon the strong, and bringeth destruction upon the fortress.

⁹Dia Ilay mampitselatra fandravana hamely ny mahery, ka dia mihatra amin'ny tanàna mimanda ny fandravana.

¹⁰They hate him that reproveth in the gate, and they abhor him that speaketh uprightly.

¹⁰Halany eo am-bavahady izay mananatra,11 ary ataony ho fahavetavetana izay miteny ny marina. [Na: Halany izay mananatra eo am-bavahady]

¹¹Forasmuch, therefore, as ye trample upon the poor, and take from him presents of wheat: ye have built houses of hewn stone, but ye shall not dwell in them; ye have planted pleasant vineyards, and ye shall not drink the wine of them.

¹¹Koa noho ny fanitsakitsahanareo ny mahantra sy ny nampandoavanareo vary azy, dia mba nanao trano vato voapaika ihany ianareo, nefa tsy hitoetra ao aminy; Namboly tanim-boaloboka mahafinaritra ihany ianareo, nefa tsy hisotro ny divay avy aminy.

¹²For I know how manifold are your transgressions and your sins mighty: they afflict the just, they take a bribe, and they turn aside [the right of] the needy in the gate.

¹²Fa fantatro fa be ny helokareo, ary fatratra ny fahotanareo: Mampahory ny marina sy mandray kolikoly ianareo ary mamadika ny malahelo eo am-bavahady. [Heb. avotra]

¹³Therefore the prudent shall keep silence in this time; for it is an evil time.

¹³Koa izay manan-tsaina dia hangina amin'izao andro izao, fa andro mampahory izao.

¹⁴Seek good, and not evil, that ye may live; and so Jehovah, the God of hosts, shall be with you, as ye say.

¹⁴Ny tsara no tadiavo, fa aza ny ratsy, mba ho velona ianareo; Ka dia homba anareo Jehovah, Andriamanitry ny maro, araka izay efa nolazainareo.

¹⁵Hate evil, and love good, and establish judgment in the gate: it may be that Jehovah, the God of hosts, will be gracious unto the remnant of Joseph.

¹⁵Ankahalao ny ratsy, ka tiavo ny tsara, ary aoreno eo am-pitsarana ny rariny; Angamba Jehovah, Andriamanitry ny maro, hamindra fo amin'izay sisa amin'i Josefa. [Heb. am-bavahady]

¹⁶Therefore thus saith Jehovah, the God of hosts, the Lord: Wailing shall be in all broadways; and they shall say in all the streets, Alas! alas! And they shall call the husbandman to mourning, and such as are skilful of lamentation to wailing.

¹⁶Koa izao no lazain'i Jehovah Tompo, Andriamanitry ny maro: Eny an-kalalahana rehetra dia hisy fisaonana, ary eny an-dalambe rehetra dia hisy hanao hoe: Indrisy! Indrisy! Ary hiantso ny mpiasa tany hitomany izy, ary izay mahay hira fisaonana dia hantsoiny hanao.

¹⁷And in all vineyards shall be wailing; for I will pass through the midst of thee, saith Jehovah.

¹⁷Ary any amin'ny tanim-boaloboka rehetra dia hisy fisaonana; Fa handeha hamaky eo aminao Aho, hoy Jehovah.

¹⁸Woe unto you that desire the day of Jehovah! To what end is the day of Jehovah for you? It shall be darkness and not light:

¹⁸Lozan'izay maniry ny andron'i Jehovah! Hataonareo inona moa ny andron'i Jehovah? Dia aizina, fa tsy fahazavana,

¹⁹as if a man fled from a lion, and a bear met him; or went into the house and leaned his hand on the wall, and a serpent bit him.

¹⁹Tahaka ny olona mandositra ny liona ka sendra ny bera, ary rehefa tafiditra ao an-trano ka mitehin- tanana amin'ny rindrina, dia kekerin'ny menarana.

²⁰Shall not the day of Jehovah be darkness, and not light? even very dark, and no brightness in it?

²⁰Moa tsy aizina va ny andron'i Jehovah, fa tsy fahazavana? Tsy aizim-pito tsy misy mangirana akory va izany?

²¹I hate, I despise your feasts, and I will not smell [a sweet odour] in your solemn assemblies.

²¹Halako, eny, laviko ny andro firavoravoanareo, ary tsy ho hanitra ankasitrahana amiko ny fivorianareo masina.

²²For if ye offer up unto me burnt-offerings and your oblations, I will not accept [them]; neither will I regard the peace-offerings of your fatted beasts.

²²Na dia ateranareo fanatitra dorana sy fanatitra hohanina aza Aho, dia tsy sitrako izany; Ny zanak'omby mifahy aterinareo ho fanati-pihavanana dia tsy hojereko akory.

²³Take away from me the noise of thy songs, and I will not hear the melody of thy lutes;

²³Atsaharo ny finaonaonan'ny hiranareo, fa maharenina Ahy; Fa tsy hihaino ny fanenon'ny lokanganareo Aho. [Heb. Hiranao, lokanganao]

²⁴but let judgment roll down as waters, and righteousness as an ever-flowing stream.

²⁴Ary aoka ny fitsarana hanalonalona toy ny rano, ary ny fahamarinana toy ny renirano tsy mety ritra.

²⁵Did ye bring unto me sacrifices and oblations in the wilderness forty years, O house of Israel?

²⁵Moa efa nanatitra fanatitra hohanina sy fanatitra alatsa-drà ho Ahy tany an-efitra efa-polo taona va ianareo, ry taranak'i Isiraely?

²⁶Yea, ye took up the tabernacle of your Moloch, and Chiun your images, the star of your god, which ye had made to yourselves;

²⁶Tsia, fa ny nitondra ny tabernakelin'ny mpanjakanareo sy ny fipetrahan'ny sampinareo ihany no nataonareo, dia ny kintan'ny andriamanitrareo, izay nataonareo ho anareo [Na: Dia ho entinareo][Na: Tsia fa ny mitondra an'i Sikota, mpanjakanareo, sy Kiona, sampinareo, no nataonareo]Ka dia ho entiko ho babo any ankoatr'i Damaskosy ianareo, hoy Jehovah, Andriamanitry ny maro no anarany.

²⁷and I will cause you to go into captivity beyond Damascus, saith Jehovah, whose name is the God of hosts.
