¹And Eliphaz the Temanite answered and said,

¹[Ny teny fanindroany nataon'i Elifaza] Dia namaly Elifaza Temanita ka nanao hoe:

²Should a wise man answer with windy knowledge, and fill his belly with the east wind,

²Tokony handahatra hevi-dravina va ny olon-kendry, ka hameno ny kibony amin'ny rivotra avy any atsinanana va,

³Reasoning with unprofitable talk, and with speeches which do no good?

³Ary hamaly amin'ny teny tsy mahasoa sy ny teny tsy mahatsara?

⁴Yea, thou makest piety of none effect, and restrainest meditation before ùGod.

⁴Eny, foananao ny fahatahorana an'Andriamanitra, ary tampenanao ny fivavahana eo anatrehany;[Na: hamavoinao]

⁵For thy mouth uttereth thine iniquity, and thou hast chosen the tongue of the crafty.

⁵Fa ny helokao no manesika ny vavanao, ary mianatra ny lelan'ny fetsy ianao.[Na: Tsy maneho ny helokao va ny vavanao, Na dia mianatra ny lelan'ny fetsy aza ianao?]

⁶Thine own mouth condemneth thee, and not I; and thy lips testify against thee.

⁶Ny vavanao ihany no manameloka anao, fa tsy izaho; Ary ny molotrao ihany no mamely anao.

⁷Art thou the first man that was born? and wast thou brought forth before the hills?

⁷Hianao va no voalohany izay nateraka ho olombelona? Na naloaky ny kibo talohan'ny tendrombohitra va ianao?

⁸Hast thou listened in the secret council of +God? And hast thou absorbed wisdom for thyself?

⁸Isan'ny mpihevitra teo amin'Andriamanitra va ianao, ka voarombakao ho anao irery ny fahendrena?

⁹What knowest thou that we know not? [what] understandest thou which is not in us?

⁹Inona no fantatrao, ka tsy mba fantatray koa, na saina azonao, ka tsy ato aminay koa?

¹⁰Both the greyheaded and the aged are with us, older than thy father.

¹⁰Ny anti-panahy sy ny fotsy volo dia misy ato aminay, eny, olona ela niainana noho ny rainao aza.

¹¹Are the consolations of ùGod too small for thee? and the word gently spoken to thee?

¹¹Ataonao ho tsinontsinona va ny fampiononana avy amin'Andriamanitra sy ny teny natao aminao amin'ny fahalemem-panahy?

¹²Why doth thy heart carry thee away? and why do thine eyes wink?

¹²Nahoana no dia entin'ny fonao ianao? Ary nahoana no mipipy foana ny masonao,

¹³That thou turnest thy spirit against ùGod, and lettest words go out of thy mouth?

¹³Ka miefonefona amin'Andriamanitra ianao, sady miteniteny foana ny vavanao?

¹⁴What is man, that he should be pure? and he that is born of a woman, that he should be righteous?

¹⁴Inona ny zanak'olombelona no mba hadio izy? Ary izay tera-behivavy no mba ho marina?

¹⁵Behold, he putteth no trust in his holy ones, and the heavens are not pure in his sight:

¹⁵Indro, ireo anjeliny aza tsy mahatoky Azy, ary ny lanitra aza tsy madio eo imasony;[Heb. masina]

¹⁶How much less the abominable and corrupt, -- man, that drinketh unrighteousness like water!

¹⁶Koa mainka fa izay vetaveta sy tena ratsy, dia ny olona izay misotro heloka toa rano!

¹⁷I will shew thee, listen to me; and what I have seen I will declare;

¹⁷Hanambara aminao aho, ka mihainoa ahy fa izay efa hitako no holazaiko,

¹⁸Which wise men have told from their fathers, and have not hidden;

¹⁸Dia zavatra notorin'ny olon-kendry, fa tsy nafeniny, dia izay azony avy tamin'ny razany;

¹⁹Unto whom alone the earth was given, and no stranger passed among them.

¹⁹Ireny ihany no nomena ny tany, ary tsy nisy olona hafa firenena nisisika teo aminy.

²⁰All his days the wicked man is tormented, and numbered years are allotted to the violent.

²⁰Ny ratsy fanahy mijalijaly amin'ny androny rehetra, dia amin'ny taona rehetra voatendry ho an'ny lozabe.

²¹The sound of terrors is in his ears: in prosperity the destroyer cometh upon him.

²¹Feo mampitahotra no ren'ny sofiny; Ary na dia miadana aza izy, dia avy hamely azy ihany ny mpandroba.

²²He believeth not that he shall return out of darkness, and he is singled out for the sword.

²²Tsy manantena ho afaka amin'ny maizina izy; Andrasan'ny sabatra izy.

²³He wandereth abroad for bread, -- where may it be? He knoweth that the day of darkness is ready at his hand.

²³Mirenireny hitady izay hohaniny izy ka manao hoe: Aiza re? Fantany fa antomotra azy ny andro maizina.

²⁴Distress and anguish make him afraid; they prevail against him, as a king ready for the battle.

²⁴Fahoriana sy fahaporitana no mampitahotra azy; Mandresy azy ireo tahaka ny mpanjaka efa vonona ho amin'ny ady,[Na: Alahelo sy ahiahy]

²⁵For he hath stretched out his hand against ùGod, and strengthened himself against the Almighty:

²⁵Satria naninjitra ny tanany hanohitra an'Andriamanitra izy Ary nirehareha hanohitra ny Tsitoha.

²⁶He runneth against him, with [outstretched] neck, with the thick bosses of his bucklers;

²⁶Mimaona amin'ny fahamafian-katoka hamely Azy izy, dia amin'ny foitran'ampingany matevina,

²⁷For he hath covered his face with his fatness, and gathered fat upon [his] flanks.

²⁷Satria efa matavitavy tarehy izy, ary mivalon-kotraka ny valahany;

²⁸And he dwelleth in desolate cities, in houses that no man inhabiteth, which are destined to become heaps.

²⁸Ary monina ao an-tanana rava izy, dia ao an-trano tokony tsy hitoeran'olona, izay efa voatendry ho korontam-bato.

²⁹He shall not become rich, neither shall his substance continue, and their possessions shall not extend upon the earth.

²⁹Tsy hanan-karena izy, sady tsy haharitra ny heriny, ka tsy ho vokatra ambonin'ny tany ny fananany.[Heb. hilonjehitra amin'ny tany toy ny vary efa vokatra]

³⁰He shall not depart out of darkness; the flame shall dry up his branches; and by the breath of his mouth shall he go away.

³⁰Tsy ho afaka amin'ny maizina izy; ny solofony hikainkona azon'ny lelafo; ho levon'ny fofonain'Andriamanitra izy.

³¹Let him not trust in vanity: he is deceived, for vanity shall be his recompense;

³¹Aoka tsy ho voafitaka hatoky zava-poana izy; fa zava-poana no ho valiny homena azy.

³²It shall be complete before his day, and his branch shall not be green.

³²Raha mbola tsy tonga aza ny androny, dia manjo azy izany, ary tsy ho maitso ny sampany.

³³He shall shake off his unripe grapes as a vine, and shall cast his flower as an olive.

³³Ho tahaka ny voaloboka manintsana ny voany manta izy ary ho tahaka ny hazo oliva mampiraraka ny voniny.

³⁴For the family of the ungodly shall be barren, and fire shall consume the tents of bribery.

³⁴Fa tsy ho vanona ny ankohonan'ny mpihatsaravelatsihy, ary ho lanin'ny afo ny tranon'ny mpitoroka.[Na: ratsy fanahy]Torontoronina fampahoriana izy ka miteraka fandozana, ary ny kibony mamorom-pitaka.

³⁵They conceive mischief, and bring forth iniquity, and their belly prepareth deceit.
