1When thou sittest to eat with a ruler, consider well who is before thee;
1Raha mipetraka hiara-komana amin'ny mpanapaka ianao, Dia hevero tsara izay eo anatrehanao,[Na: anoloanao]
2and put a knife to thy throat, if thou be a man given to appetite.
2Ka andraso antsy ny tendanao, Raha dia liana loatra ianao.
3Be not desirous of his dainties; for they are deceitful food.
3Aza mitsiriritra ny hanim-piny, Fa hani-mamitaka izany.
4Weary not thyself to become rich; cease from thine own intelligence:
4Aza manasa-tena hanan-karena, Aza entina amin'izany ny fahendrenao.
5wilt thou set thine eyes upon it, it is gone; for indeed it maketh itself wings and it flieth away as an eagle towards the heavens.
5Moa hampanarahinao azy va ny masonao, nefa tsy ao intsony izy? Fa maniry elatra tokoa izy Ka manidina toy ny voromahery ho eny amin'ny lanitra.
6Eat thou not the food of him that hath an evil eye, neither desire thou his dainties.
6Aza homana ny mofon'izay ratsy fijery, Ary aza mitsiriritra ny hanim-piny;
7For as he thinketh in his soul, so is he. Eat and drink! will he say unto thee; but his heart is not with thee.
7Fa tahaka ny heviny ao am-pony ihany no toetrany: Hoy izy aminao: Mihinàna, misotroa; Kanjo tsy sitrany ianao.
8Thy morsel which thou hast eaten must thou vomit up, and thou wilt have wasted thy sweet words.
8Izay sombiny kely voatelinao aza dia mbola haloanao, Ka ho very foana ny teny mahafinaritra nataonao.
9Speak not in the ears of a foolish [man], for he will despise the wisdom of thy words.
9Aza miteny amin'91 ny adala;Fa hohamavoiny foana ny fahendren'ny teninao.[Heb. an-tsofin']
10Remove not the ancient landmark; and enter not into the fields of the fatherless:
10Aza manakisaka ny fari-tany ela, Ary aza manitatra mankamin'ny sahan'ny kamboty;[Heb. miditra amin']
11for their redeemer is mighty; he will plead their cause against thee.
11Fa mahery ny Mpanavotra azy, Izy no hisolo vava azy amin'ny adiny aminao.
12Apply thy heart unto instruction, and thine ears to the words of knowledge.
12Ampiekeo famaizana ny fonao, Sy tenim-pahalalana ny sofinao.
13Withhold not correction from the child; for [if] thou beatest him with the rod, he shall not die:
13Aza tsy manafay zanaka, Fa tsy dia ho faty izy tsy akory na dia asianao ny hazo aza; [Na: Fa tsy ho faty izy, raha asianao ny hazo]
14thou shalt beat him with the rod, and shalt deliver his soul from Sheol.
14Raha mamely azy amin'ny hazo ianao, Dia ho voavonjinao tsy ho any amin'ny fiainan-tsi-hita ny fanahiny.[Heb. Sheola]
15My son, if thy heart be wise, my heart shall rejoice, even mine;
15Anaka, raha hendry ny fonao,Dia ho faly koa ny foko, dia ny foko;
16and my reins shall exult, when thy lips speak right things.
16Eny, ho ravoravo ny fanahiko, Raha miteny marina ny molotrao.[Heb. voako]
17Let not thy heart envy sinners, but [be thou] in the fear of Jehovah all the day;
17Aoka tsy hialona ny mpanota ny fonao; Fa matahora an'i Jehovah mandritra ny andro;
18for surely there is a result, and thine expectation shall not be cut off.
18Fa raha mbola hisy koa ny farany, Dia tsy ho foana ny fanantenanao.
19Thou, my son, hear and be wise, and direct thy heart in the way.
19Mihainoa ianao, anaka, ka hendre, Ary ampizory amin'ny lalana ny fonao.
20Be not among winebibbers, among riotous eaters of flesh.
20Aza misakaiza amin'izay mpiboboka divay Sy izay fatra-pitia hena;
21For the drunkard and the glutton shall come to poverty; and drowsiness clotheth with rags.
21Fa halahelo izay mpiboboka sy izay fatra-pitia hena; Ary ny fitiavan-torimaso mampitafy voro-damba.
22Hearken unto thy father that begat thee, and despise not thy mother when she is old.
22Maneke ny rainao izay niteraka anao. Ary aza manamavo ny reninao, saingy efa antitra izy.
23Buy the truth, and sell it not; wisdom, and instruction, and intelligence.
23Vidio ny marina, ka aza amidy, Dia ny fahendrena sy ny fananarana ary ny fahazavan-tsaina.
24The father of a righteous [man] shall greatly rejoice, and he that begetteth a wise [son] shall have joy of him:
24Hifaly dia hifaly ny rain'ny marina, Ary izay miteraka zaza hendry hanampifaliana aminy.
25let thy father and thy mother have joy, and let her that bore thee rejoice.
25Aoka ho faly ny rainao sy ny reninao, Eny, aoka ho ravoravo ny reninao izay niteraka anao.
26My son, give me thy heart, and let thine eyes observe my ways.
26Anaka, atolory ahy ny fonao, Ary aoka ny masonao ho faly mijery ny lalako;[Na: Ary aoka ny masonao handinika ny lalako]
27For a whore is a deep ditch; and a strange woman is a narrow pit.
27Fa ny vehivavy jejo dia hady lalina, Ary ny vahiny janga lavaka etỳ; [Heb. vehivavy tsy vadiny]
28She also lieth in wait as a robber, and increaseth the treacherous among men.
28Eny, manotrika toy ny jiolahy ireny Ary mahamaro ny olona mpivadika.
29Who hath woe? Who hath sorrow? Who contentions? Who complaining? Who wounds without cause? Who redness of eyes?
29An'iza ny Indrisy? An'iza ny Endrey? An'iza ny fifandirana? An'iza ny fitolokoana? An'iza ny ratra tsy ahoan-tsy ahoana? An'iza ny maso mivoara-mena? [Na: manjambena]
30-- They that tarry long at the wine; they that go to try mixed wine.
30An'izay mikikitra amin'ny divay, Eny, an'izay mandeha hanandrana divay voaharoharo zavatra.
31Look not upon the wine when it is red, when it sparkleth in the cup, and goeth down smoothly:
31Aza mijery ny divay noho ny hamenany Sy ny fanganohanony eo anaty gilasy Ary ny fikoriany mahafinaritra;[Heb. kapoaka]
32at the last it biteth like a serpent, and stingeth like an adder.
32Fa amin'ny farany dia hanaikitra toy ny bibilava izy Ary hanindrona toy ny menarana.
33Thine eyes shall behold strange women, and thy heart shall speak froward things;
33Koa ny masonao dia hijery vehivavy jejo, Ary ny fonao hieritreri-dratsy.[Heb. vehivavy tsy vadiny][Na: Ny masonao hahita zavatra hafahafa, Ary ny fonao hirediredy foana]
34and thou shalt be as he that lieth down in the midst of the sea, and as he that lieth down upon the top of a mast:
34Eny, ho sahala amin'izay mandry ao amin'ny ranomasina ianao Sady ho tahaka izay mandry eo an-tendron'ny andrin-tsambo.Nokapohiny aho, hoy ianao, fa tsy reko naharary ahy, Nandalasiny aho, fa tsy tsaroako; Rahoviana ange aho no hifoha mba hitadiavako azy indray?
35-- ''They have smitten me, [and] I am not sore; they have beaten me, [and] I knew it not. When shall I awake? I will seek it yet again.''
35Nokapohiny aho, hoy ianao, fa tsy reko naharary ahy, Nandalasiny aho, fa tsy tsaroako; Rahoviana ange aho no hifoha mba hitadiavako azy indray?
