1{To the chief Musician. Upon the Gittith. [A Psalm] of Asaph.} Sing ye joyously unto God our strength, shout aloud unto the God of Jacob;
1¶ Ki te tino kaiwhakatangi. Kititi.
2Raise a song, and sound the tambour, the pleasant harp with the lute.
3Blow the trumpet at the new moon, at the set time, on our feast day:
3Whakatangihia te tetere i te kowhititanga marama, i te kinga o te marama, i to tatou ra hakari.
4For this is a statute for Israel, an ordinance of the God of Jacob;
5He ordained it in Joseph [for] a testimony, when he went forth over the land of Egypt, [where] I heard a language that I knew not.
5I whakatakotoria tenei e ia ma Hohepa hei whakaaturanga, i tona haerenga puta noa i te whenua o Ihipa: i rongo ai ahau ki reira i tetahi reo, kahore ahau i matau.
6I removed his shoulder from the burden; his hands were freed from the basket.
6I tangohia mai e ahau tona pokohiwi i te pikaunga: whakarerea ake e ona ringa te kete.
7Thou calledst in trouble, and I delivered thee; I answered thee in the secret place of thunder; I proved thee at the waters of Meribah. Selah.
(Hera.
8Hear, my people, and I will testify unto thee; O Israel, if thou wouldest hearken unto me!
8¶ Whakarongo, e taku iwi, a ka whakaatu ahau ki a koe: e Iharaira, ki te whakarongo koe ki ahau;
9There shall no strange ùgod be in thee, neither shalt thou worship any foreign ùgod.
9Aua tetahi atua ke i roto i a koe; kaua ano e koropiko ki te atua ke.
10I am Jehovah thy God, that brought thee up out of the land of Egypt: open thy mouth wide, and I will fill it.
10Ko Ihowa ahau, ko tou Atua, i arahina mai ai koe i te whenua o Ihipa: kia nui te kowhera o tou mangai, a maku e whakaki.
11But my people hearkened not to my voice, and Israel would none of me.
12So I gave them up unto their own hearts' stubbornness: they walked after their own counsels.
13Oh that my people had hearkened unto me, that Israel had walked in my ways!
13Aue, te whakarongo taku iwi ki ahau! Te haere a Iharaira i aku ara!
14I would soon have subdued their enemies, and turned my hand against their adversaries.
15The haters of Jehovah would have come cringing unto him; but their time would have been for ever.
15Ko te hunga e kino ana ki a Ihowa kua ngohengohe ki a ia: ko to ratou taima ia kua mau tonu.
16And he would have fed them with the finest of wheat; yea, with honey out of the rock would I have satisfied thee.
