1My brethren, do not have the faith of our Lord Jesus Christ, [Lord] of glory, with respect of persons:
1സഹോദരന്മാരേ, തേജസ്സുള്ളവനായി നമ്മുടെ കര്‍ത്താവായ യേശുക്രിസ്തുവില്‍ വിശ്വസിക്കുന്ന നിങ്ങള്‍ മുഖപക്ഷം കാണിക്കരുതു.
2for if there come unto your synagogue a man with a gold ring in splendid apparel, and a poor man also come in in vile apparel,
2നിങ്ങളുടെ പള്ളിയില്‍ മോടിയുള്ള വസ്ത്രം ധരിച്ചും പൊന്മോതിരം ഇട്ടുംകൊണ്ടു ഒരുത്തനും മുഷിഞ്ഞ വസ്ത്രം ധരിച്ചോരു ദരിദ്രനും വന്നാല്‍
3and ye look upon him who wears the splendid apparel, and say, Do thou sit here well, and say to the poor, Do thou stand there, or sit here under my footstool:
3നിങ്ങള്‍ മോടിയുള്ള വസ്ത്രം ധരിച്ചവനെ നോക്കിഇവിടെ സുഖേന ഇരുന്നാലും എന്നും ദരിദ്രനോടുനീ അവിടെ നില്‍ക്ക; അല്ലെങ്കില്‍ എന്റെ പാദപീഠത്തിങ്കല്‍ ഇരിക്ക എന്നും പറയുന്നു എങ്കില്‍
4have ye not made a difference among yourselves, and become judges having evil thoughts?
4നിങ്ങള്‍ ഉള്ളില്‍ പ്രാമാണമില്ലാതെ ന്യായരഹിതമായി വിധിക്കുന്നവരായില്ലയോ?
5Hear, my beloved brethren: Has not God chosen the poor as to the world, rich in faith, and heirs of the kingdom, which he has promised to them that love him?
5പ്രിയ സഹോദരന്മാരേ, കേള്‍പ്പിന്‍ ദൈവം ലോകത്തില്‍ ദരിദ്രരായവരെ വിശ്വാസത്തില്‍ സമ്പന്നരും തന്നേ സ്നേഹിക്കുന്നവര്‍ക്കും വാഗ്ദത്തം ചെയ്ത രാജ്യത്തിന്റെ അവകാശികളുമാകേണ്ടതിന്നു തിരഞ്ഞെടുത്തില്ലയോ? നിങ്ങളോ ദരിദ്രനെ അപമാനിച്ചിരിക്കുന്നു.
6But *ye* have despised the poor [man]. Do not the rich oppress you, and [do not] *they* drag you before [the] tribunals?
6ധനവാന്മാര്‍ അല്ലയോ നിങ്ങളെ പീഡിപ്പിക്കുന്നതു? അവര്‍ അല്ലയോ നിങ്ങളെ ന്യായസ്ഥാനങ്ങളിലേക്കു ഇഴെച്ചു കൊണ്ടുപോകുന്നതു?
7And [do not] *they* blaspheme the excellent name which has been called upon you?
7നിങ്ങളുടെമേല്‍ വിളിച്ചിരിക്കുന്ന നല്ല നാമത്തെ അവര്‍ അല്ലയോ ദുഷിക്കുന്നതു?
8If indeed ye keep [the] royal law according to the scripture, Thou shalt love thy neighbour as thyself, ye do well.
8എന്നാല്‍ “കൂട്ടുകാരനെ നിന്നെപ്പോലെ തന്നേ സ്നേഹിക്കേണം” എന്ന തിരുവെഴുത്തിന്നു ഒത്തവണ്ണം രാജകീയന്യായപ്രമാണം നിങ്ങള്‍ നിവര്‍ത്തിക്കുന്നു എങ്കില്‍ നന്നു.
9But if ye have respect of persons, ye commit sin, being convicted by the law as transgressors.
9മുഖപക്ഷം കാണിച്ചാലോ പാപം ചെയ്യുന്നു; നിങ്ങള്‍ ലംഘനക്കാര്‍ എന്നു ന്യായപ്രമാണത്താല്‍ തെളിയുന്നു.
10For whoever shall keep the whole law and shall offend in one [point], he has come under the guilt of [breaking] all.
10ഒരുത്തന്‍ ന്യായപ്രമാണം മുഴുവനും അനുസരിച്ചു നടന്നിട്ടും ഒന്നില്‍ തെറ്റിയാല്‍ അവന്‍ സകലത്തിന്നും കുറ്റക്കാരനായിത്തീര്‍ന്നു.
11For he who said, Thou shalt not commit adultery, said also, Thou shalt not kill. Now if thou dost not commit adultery, but killest, thou art become transgressor of [the] law.
11വ്യഭിചാരം ചെയ്യരുതു എന്നു കല്പിച്ചവന്‍ കുല ചെയ്യരുതു എന്നും കല്പിച്ചിരിക്കുന്നു. നീ വ്യഭിചാരം ചെയ്യുന്നില്ലെങ്കിലും കുല ചെയ്യുന്നു എങ്കില്‍ ന്യായപ്രമാണം ലംഘിക്കുന്നവനായിത്തീര്‍ന്നു.
12So speak ye, and so act, as those that are to be judged by [the] law of liberty;
12സ്വാതന്ത്ര്യത്തിന്റെ ന്യായപ്രമാണത്താല്‍ വിധിക്കപ്പെടുവാനുള്ളവരെപ്പോലെ സംസാരിക്കയും പ്രവര്‍ത്തിക്കയും ചെയ്‍വിന്‍ .
13for judgment [will be] without mercy to him that has shewn no mercy. Mercy glories over judgment.
13കരുണ കാണിക്കാത്തവന്നു കരുണയില്ലാത്ത ന്യായവിധി ഉണ്ടാകും; കരുണ ന്യായവിധിയെ ജയിച്ചു പ്രശംസിക്കുന്നു.
14What [is] the profit, my brethren, if any one say he have faith, but have not works? can faith save him?
14സഹോദരന്മാരേ, ഒരുത്തന്‍ തനിക്കു വിശ്വാസം ഉണ്ടു എന്നു പറകയും പ്രവൃത്തികള്‍ ഇല്ലാതിരിക്കയും ചെയ്താല്‍ ഉപകാരം എന്തു? ആ വിശ്വാസത്താല്‍ അവന്‍ രക്ഷ പ്രാപിക്കുമോ?
15Now if a brother or a sister is naked and destitute of daily food,
15ഒരു സഹോദരനോ, സഹോദരിയോ നഗ്നരും അഹോവൃത്തിക്കു വക ഇല്ലാത്ത വരുമായിരിക്കെ നിങ്ങളില്‍ ഒരുത്തന്‍ അവരോടു
16and one from amongst you say to them, Go in peace, be warmed and filled; but give not to them the needful things for the body, what [is] the profit?
16സമാധാനത്തോടെ പോയി തീ കായുകയും വിശപ്പടക്കുകയും ചെയ്‍വിന്‍ എന്നു പറയുന്നതല്ലാതെ ദേഹരക്ഷെക്കു ആവശ്യമുള്ളതു അവര്‍ക്കും കൊടുക്കാതിരുന്നാല്‍ ഉപകാരം എന്തു?
17So also faith, if it have not works, is dead by itself.
17അങ്ങനെ വിശ്വാസവും പ്രവൃത്തികളില്ലാത്തതായാല്‍ സ്വതവെ നിര്‍ജ്ജീവമാകുന്നു.
18But some one will say, *Thou* hast faith and *I* have works. Shew me thy faith without works, and *I* from my works will shew thee my faith.
18എന്നാല്‍ ഒരുത്തന്‍ നിനക്കു വിശ്വാസം ഉണ്ടു; എനിക്കു പ്രവൃത്തികള്‍ ഉണ്ടു എന്നു പറയുമായിരിക്കും. നിന്റെ വിശ്വാസം പ്രവൃത്തികള്‍ കൂടാതെ കാണിച്ചുതരിക; ഞാനും എന്റെ വിശ്വാസം പ്രവൃത്തികളാല്‍ കാണിച്ചു തരാം.
19*Thou* believest that God is one. Thou doest well. The demons even believe, and tremble.
19ദൈവം ഏകന്‍ എന്നു നീ വിശ്വസിക്കുന്നുവോ; കൊള്ളാം; പിശാചുകളും അങ്ങനെ വിശ്വസിക്കയും വിറെക്കയും ചെയ്യുന്നു.
20But wilt thou know, O vain man, that faith without works is dead?
20വ്യര്‍ത്ഥമനുഷ്യാ, പ്രവൃത്തിയില്ലാത്ത വിശ്വാസം നിഷ്ഫലമെന്നു ഗ്രഹിപ്പാന്‍ നിനക്കു മനസ്സുണ്ടോ?
21Was not Abraham our father justified by works when he had offered Isaac his son upon the altar?
21നമ്മുടെ പിതാവായ അബ്രാഹാം തന്റെ മകനായ യിസ്ഹാക്കിനെ യാഗപീഠത്തിന്മേല്‍ അര്‍പ്പിച്ചിട്ടു പ്രവൃത്തിയാല്‍ അല്ലയോ നീതീകരിക്കപ്പെട്ടതു?
22Thou seest that faith wrought with his works, and that by works faith was perfected.
22അവന്റെ പ്രവൃത്തിയോടുകൂടെ വിശ്വാസം വ്യാപരിച്ചു എന്നും പ്രവൃത്തിയാല്‍ വിശ്വാസം പൂര്‍ണ്ണമായി എന്നും നീ കാണുന്നുവല്ലോ.
23And the scripture was fulfilled which says, Abraham believed God, and it was reckoned to him as righteousness, and he was called Friend of God.
23അബ്രാഹാം ദൈവത്തെ വിശ്വസിക്കയും അതു അവന്നു നീതിയായി കണക്കിടുകയും ചെയ്തു എന്നുള്ള തിരുവെഴുത്തു നിവൃത്തിയായി അവന്‍ ദൈവത്തിന്റെ സ്നേഹിതന്‍ എന്നു പേര്‍ പ്രാപിച്ചു.
24Ye see that a man is justified on the principle of works, and not on the principle of faith only.
24അങ്ങനെ മനുഷ്യന്‍ വെറും വിശ്വാസത്താലല്ല പ്രവൃത്തികളാല്‍ തന്നേ നീതീകരിക്കപ്പെടുന്നു എന്നു നിങ്ങള്‍ കാണുന്നു.
25But was not in like manner also Rahab the harlot justified on the principle of works, when she had received the messengers and put [them] forth by another way?
25അവ്വണ്ണം രാഹാബ് എന്ന വേശ്യയും ദൂതരെ കൈക്കൊള്‍കയും വേറൊരു വഴിയായി പറഞ്ഞയക്കയും ചെയ്തതില്‍ പ്രവൃത്തികളാല്‍ അല്ലയോ നീതീകരിക്കപ്പെട്ടതു?
26For as the body without a spirit is dead, so also faith without works is dead.
26ഇങ്ങനെ ആത്മാവില്ലത്ത ശരീരം നിര്‍ജ്ജീവമായിരിക്കുന്നതുപോലെ പ്രവൃത്തിയില്ലാത്ത വിശ്വാസവും നിര്‍ജ്ജീവമാകുന്നു.
