¹Give ye thanks unto Jehovah; for he is good; for his loving-kindness [endureth] for ever.

¹Pris Herren, for han er god, hans miskunnhet varer evindelig.

²Let the redeemed of Jehovah say so, whom he hath redeemed from the hand of the oppressor,

²Så sie Herrens gjenløste, de som han har gjenløst av nødens hånd,

³And gathered out of the countries, from the east and from the west, from the north and from the sea.

³og som han har samlet fra landene, fra øst og fra vest, fra nord og fra havet.

⁴They wandered in the wilderness in a desert way, they found no city of habitation;

⁴De fór vill i ørkenen, i et uveisomt øde, de fant ikke en by å bo i.

⁵Hungry and thirsty, their soul fainted in them:

⁵De var hungrige og tørste, deres sjel vansmektet i dem.

⁶Then they cried unto Jehovah in their trouble, [and] he delivered them out of their distresses,

⁶Da ropte de til Herren i sin nød; av deres trengsler utfridde han dem,

⁷And he led them forth by a right way, that they might go to a city of habitation.

⁷og han førte dem på rett vei, så de gikk til en by de kunde bo i.

⁸Let them give thanks unto Jehovah for his loving-kindness, and for his wondrous works to the children of men;

⁸De skal prise Herren for hans miskunnhet og for hans undergjerninger mot menneskenes barn;

⁹For he hath satisfied the longing soul and filled the hungry soul with good.

⁹for han mettet den vansmektende sjel og fylte den hungrige sjel med godt.

¹⁰Such as inhabit darkness and the shadow of death, bound in affliction and iron,

¹⁰De satt i mørke og i dødsskygge, bundet i elendighet og jern,

¹¹Because they had rebelled against the words of ùGod, and had despised the counsel of the Most High; ...

¹¹fordi de hadde vært gjenstridige mot Guds ord og foraktet den Høiestes råd.

¹²And he bowed down their heart with labour; they stumbled, and there was none to help:

¹²Derfor bøide han deres hjerter ved lidelse; de snublet, og det var ikke nogen hjelper.

¹³Then they cried unto Jehovah in their trouble, [and] he saved them out of their distresses;

¹³Da ropte de til Herren i sin nød; av deres trengsler frelste han dem.

¹⁴He brought them out of darkness and the shadow of death, and broke their bands in sunder.

¹⁴Han førte dem ut av mørke og dødsskygge og rev sønder deres bånd.

¹⁵Let them give thanks unto Jehovah for his loving-kindness, and for his wondrous works to the children of men;

¹⁵De skal prise Herren for hans miskunnhet og for hans undergjerninger mot menneskenes barn;

¹⁶For he hath broken the gates of bronze, and cut asunder the bars of iron.

¹⁶for han brøt sønder porter av kobber og hugg sønder bommer av jern.

¹⁷Fools, because of their way of transgression, and because of their iniquities, are afflicted;

¹⁷De var dårer og blev plaget for sin syndige vei og for sine misgjerninger;

¹⁸Their soul abhorreth all manner of food, and they draw near unto the gates of death:

¹⁸deres sjel vemmedes ved all mat, og de kom nær til dødens porter.

¹⁹Then they cry unto Jehovah in their trouble, [and] he saveth them out of their distresses;

¹⁹Da ropte de til Herren i sin nød; av deres trengsler frelste han dem.

²⁰He sendeth his word, and healeth them, and delivereth them from their destructions.

²⁰Han sendte sitt ord og helbredet dem og reddet dem fra deres graver.

²¹Let them give thanks unto Jehovah for his loving-kindness, and for his wondrous works to the children of men,

²¹De skal prise Herren for hans miskunnhet og for hans undergjerninger mot menneskenes barn;

²²And let them offer the sacrifices of thanksgiving, and declare his works in joyful song.

²²og ofre takkoffere og fortelle om hans gjerninger med jubel.

²³They that go down to the sea in ships, that do business in great waters,

²³De som fór ut på havet i skib, som drev handel på store vann,

²⁴These see the works of Jehovah, and his wonders in the deep.

²⁴de så Herrens gjerninger og hans underverker på dypet.

²⁵For he speaketh, and raiseth the stormy wind, which lifteth up the waves thereof:

²⁵Han bød og lot det komme en stormvind, og den reiste dets bølger.

²⁶They mount up to the heavens, they go down to the depths; their soul is melted because of trouble;

²⁶De fór op imot himmelen, de fór ned i avgrunnene, deres sjel blev motløs i ulykken.

²⁷They reel to and fro, and stagger like a drunken man, and they are at their wits' end:

²⁷De tumlet og vaklet som en drukken mann, og all deres visdom blev til intet.

²⁸Then they cry unto Jehovah in their trouble, and he bringeth them out of their distresses;

²⁸Da ropte de til Herren i sin nød, og av deres trengsler førte han dem ut.

²⁹He maketh the storm a calm, and the waves thereof are still:

²⁹Han lot stormen bli til stille, og bølgene omkring dem tidde.

³⁰And they rejoice because they are quiet; and he bringeth them unto their desired haven.

³⁰Og de gledet sig over at de la sig; og han førte dem til den havn de ønsket.

³¹Let them give thanks unto Jehovah for his loving-kindness, and for his wondrous works to the children of men;

³¹De skal prise Herren for hans miskunnhet og for hans undergjerninger mot menneskenes barn

³²Let them exalt him also in the congregation of the people, and praise him in the session of the elders.

³²og ophøie ham i folkets forsamling og love ham der hvor de gamle sitter.

³³He maketh rivers into a wilderness, and water-springs into dry ground;

³³Han gjorde elver til en ørken og vannkilder til et tørstig land,

³⁴A fruitful land into a plain of salt, for the wickedness of them that dwell therein.

³⁴et fruktbart land til et saltland for deres ondskaps skyld som bodde der.

³⁵He maketh the wilderness into a pool of water, and the dry land into water-springs;

³⁵Han gjorde en ørken til en vannrik sjø og et tørt land til vannkilder*. / {* nemlig: for det frelste Israel.}

³⁶And there he maketh the hungry to dwell, and they establish a city of habitation;

³⁶Og han lot de hungrige bo der, og de grunnla en by til å bo i.

³⁷And sow fields, and plant vineyards, which yield fruits of increase;

³⁷Og de tilsådde akrer og plantet vingårder, og de vant den frukt de bar.

³⁸And he blesseth them, so that they are multiplied greatly; and he suffereth not their cattle to decrease.

³⁸Og han velsignet dem, og de blev meget tallrike, og av fe gav han dem ikke lite.

³⁹And they are diminished and brought low, through oppression, adversity, and sorrow:

³⁹Så minket de igjen og blev nedbøiet ved trengsel, ulykke og sorg.

⁴⁰He poureth contempt upon nobles, and causeth them to wander in a pathless waste;

⁴⁰Han som utøser forakt over fyrster og lar dem fare vill i et uveisomt øde,

⁴¹But he secureth the needy one on high from affliction, and maketh [him] families like flocks.

⁴¹han ophøiet den fattige av elendighet og gjorde slektene som hjorden.

⁴²The upright shall see it, and rejoice; and all unrighteousness shall stop its mouth.

⁴²De opriktige ser det og gleder sig, og all ondskap lukker sin munn.

⁴³Whoso is wise, let him observe these things, and let them understand the loving-kindnesses of Jehovah.

⁴³Den som er vis, han akte på dette og merke på Herrens nådegjerninger!
