13

1A wise son [heareth] his father's instruction; but a scorner heareth not rebuke.
1Tapa pilin a pa hilhna a jaa: himahleh musittuin a salhna a za kei.
2A man shall eat good by the fruit of his mouth; but the soul of the treacherous, violence.
2Min a kam gahin hoih a ne ding hi: himahleh lepchiah mi khain hiamgamna a ne ding hi.
3He that guardeth his mouth keepeth his soul; destruction shall be to him that openeth wide his lips.
3Kuapeuh a kam vengin a hinna a voma: himahleh kuapeuh a mukte hong jain siatna a nei ding.
4A sluggard's soul desireth and hath nothing; but the soul of the diligent shall be made fat.
4Thadah khain a deiha, bangmah a neikei: himahleh thanuam kha thausakin a om ding.
5A righteous [man] hateth lying; but the wicked maketh himself odious and cometh to shame.
5Mi diktatin juau a hua: himahleh mi gilou huathuai ahia, zumna a tung sek.
6Righteousness preserveth him that is perfect in the way; but wickedness overthroweth the sinner.
6Lampia mi tang amah diktatnain a veng: himahleh mikhial jaw gitlouhnain a man hi.
7There is that feigneth himself rich, and hath nothing; there is that maketh himself poor, and hath great wealth.
7Amah leh amah hausaa kibawl a om, himahleh bangmah a neikei: amah leh amah genthei a kibawl a om, himahleh hauhsakna thupi a nei hi.
8The ransom of a man's life is his riches; but the indigent heareth not rebuke.
8Mihing hinna tatman a hausakna ahi: himahleh gentheiin vaulauna a za kei hi.
9The light of the righteous rejoiceth; but the lamp of the wicked shall be put out.
9Mi diktat vakna a kipaka: himahleh mi gilou khawnvak a kithat ding.
10By pride there only cometh contention; but with the well-advised is wisdom.
10Kisaktheih jiakin kiselna kia a honga: himahleh hoihtaka thuhilh pilna ahi.
11Wealth [gotten] by vanity diminisheth; but he that gathereth by manual-labour shall increase [it].
11Bangmahloua hauhsakna muh a kiam ding: himahleh sepgimna jiaka lakhawm a pung ding hi.
12Hope deferred maketh the heart sick; but the desire [that] cometh to pass is a tree of life.
12Lametna hal sawtin lungtang a china saka: himahleh deih a hongtun chiangin, hinna sing ahi.
13Whoso despiseth the word shall be held by it; but he that feareth the commandment shall be rewarded.
13Kuapeuh thu musitin a tungah siatna a tun hi: himahleh kuapeuh thupiak kihta kipahmah piakin a om ding.
14The teaching of the wise [man] is a fountain of life, to turn away from the snares of death.
14Mi pil dan hinna tuikhuk ahi, sihna thangtea kipana paimangna ding.
15Good understanding procureth favour; but the way of the treacherous is hard.
15Theihsiamna hoihin deihsakna a piaa: himahleh lepchiah mi lampi a phok hi.
16Every prudent [man] acteth with knowledge; but the foolish layeth open [his] folly.
16Mi pilvang peuhmahin theihna tohin na a sema: himahleh mi haiin diklouhna a theh jak.
17A wicked messenger falleth into evil; but a faithful ambassador is health.
17Sawltak gilou hoihlou ah a puka: himahleh sikadingmi muanhuai danna ahi.
18Poverty and shame shall be [to] him that refuseth instruction; but he that regardeth reproof shall be honoured.
18Gentheihna leh zumna bawlhoihna nial kiangah a om dia: himahleh salhna limsak zahtakin a om ding.
19The desire accomplished is sweet to the soul; but it is abomination to the foolish to depart from evil.
19Deih hihpichin khaa dingin a nuama: himahleh gilou akipan paimang mihaite adingin kihhuai ahi.
20He that walketh with wise [men] becometh wise; but a companion of the foolish will be depraved.
20Mi pilte toh tonin, huchiin na pil ding: himahleh mi haite kithuahpihin huaijiakin a thuak ding.
21Evil pursueth sinners; but to the righteous good shall be repaid.
21Hoihlouin mikhialte a delha: himahleh diktatmi hoiha thukin a om ding hi.
22A good man leaveth an inheritance to his children's children; but the wealth of the sinner is laid up for the righteous [man].
22Mi hoihin gouluah a tate tate kiangah a nutsiat; mikhial hausakna mi diktat adia kholkhawmin a om hi.
23Much food is in the tillage of the poor; but there is that is lost for want of judgment.

24He that spareth his rod hateth his son; but he that loveth him chasteneth him betimes.
24Kuapeuh achiang zang louin a tapa a mudaha: himahleh amah itin amah thanuamtakin a sawi jel hi.Mi diktatin a kha lungkimna tanin a nea: himahleh mi gilou gilpi a tasam ding.
25The righteous eateth to the satisfying of his soul; but the belly of the wicked shall want.
