¹{A Psalm of Asaph.} Truly God is good to Israel, to such as are of a pure heart.

¹ به راستی خدا برای قوم اسرائیل و همهٔ کسانی‌که دل پاک دارند، نیکوست.

²But as for me, my feet were almost gone, my steps had well nigh slipped;

² امّا من، نزدیک بود ایمان خود را از دست بدهم و از راه راست منحرف شوم.

³For I was envious at the arrogant, seeing the prosperity of the wicked.

³ زیرا از دیدن موفقیّت اشخاص متکبّر و شریر حسد می‌‌ورزیدم.

⁴For they have no pangs in their death, and their body is well nourished;

⁴ زیرا که زحمت نمی‌کشند و بدنی قوی و سالم دارند.

⁵They have not the hardships of mankind, neither are they plagued like [other] men:

⁵ مانند دیگران رنج و زحمت نمی‌کشند و گرفتاری‌های دیگران را هم ندارند.

⁶Therefore pride encompasseth them as a neck-chain, violence covereth them [as] a garment;

⁶ بنابراین به غرور آراسته‌اند، و به خشونت ملبّس شده‌اند.

⁷Their eyes stand out from fatness, they exceed the imaginations of their heart:

⁷ دلهایشان پُر از شرارت است و افکار شرارت‌آمیز در سر خود می‌پرورانند.

⁸They mock and speak wickedly of oppression, they speak loftily:

⁸ مردم را مسخره می‌کنند و حرفهای زشت می‌زنند. متکبّرند و در پی آزار دیگران هستند.

⁹They set their mouth in the heavens, and their tongue walketh through the earth.

⁹ حرفهای کفرآمیز به ضد خدا می‌زنند، و با گستاخی بر مردم حکمرانی می‌کنند.

¹⁰Therefore his people turn hither, and waters in fulness are wrung out to them.

¹⁰ بنابراین حتّی قوم خدا از آنها پیروی می‌کنند و آنها را می‌ستایند.

¹¹And they say, How can ùGod know, and is there knowledge in the Most High?

¹¹ آنها می‌گویند: «خدا نمی‌‌داند. خدای متعال از کارهای ما باخبر نمی‌شود.»

¹²Behold, these are the wicked, and they prosper in the world: they heap up riches.

¹² مردمان شریر را ببینید! آنها زندگی راحتی دارند و ثروتشان روز به روز زیادتر می‌شود.

¹³Truly have I purified my heart in vain, and washed my hands in innocency:

¹³ من بیهوده خود را پاک نگه داشته و از گناه دوری می‌کنم.

¹⁴For all the day have I been plagued, and chastened every morning.

¹⁴ صبح تا شب در زحمت و محنت به سر می‌برم و هر روز سرزنش می‌شوم.

¹⁵If I said, I will speak thus, behold, I should be faithless to the generation of thy children.

¹⁵ اگر من آن حرفها را زده بودم، در مقابل قوم تو خیانتکار محسوب می‌شدم.

¹⁶When I thought to be able to know this, it was a grievous task in mine eyes;

¹⁶ من کوشش کردم که این موضوع را بفهمم، امّا فکرم به جایی نرسید.

¹⁷Until I went into the sanctuaries of ùGod; [then] understood I their end.

¹⁷ تا آن که به معبد بزرگ تو رفتم، آنگاه فهمیدم که چه سرنوشت بدی در انتظار شریران است.

¹⁸Truly thou settest them in slippery places, thou castest them down in ruins.

¹⁸ تو آنها را در پرتگاهی لغزنده قرار خواهی داد تا بیفتند و نابود شوند.

¹⁹How are they suddenly made desolate! they pass away, consumed with terrors.

¹⁹ آنها در لحظه‌ای نابود می‌گردند و عاقبتی هولناک خواهند داشت.

²⁰As a dream, when one awaketh, wilt thou, Lord, on arising despise their image.

²⁰ آنها مانند خوابی هستند که صبح فراموش می‌شود. هنگامی‌که تو ای خداوند برخیزی آنان محو می‌گردند.

²¹When my heart was in a ferment, and I was pricked in my reins,

²¹ زمانی که روح من افسرده و دلم شکسته بود،

²²Then I was brutish and knew nothing; I was [as] a beast with thee.

²² احمق و نادان بودم و در حضور تو مانند حیوانی بی‌شعور رفتار کردم!

²³Nevertheless I am continually with thee: thou hast holden my right hand;

²³ با این وجود، همیشه به تو نزدیک بودم و تو پیوسته دست مرا گرفته‌ای.

²⁴Thou wilt guide me by thy counsel, and after the glory, thou wilt receive me.

²⁴ تو مرا طبق خواست خود هدایت می‌کنی، و سرانجام مرا با احترام در پیشگاه خود می‌پذیری.

²⁵Whom have I in the heavens? and there is none upon earth I desire beside thee.

²⁵ در آسمان غیراز تو کسی را ندارم و بر روی زمین هم جز تو، چیزی نمی‌خواهم.

²⁶My flesh and my heart faileth: God is the rock of my heart and my portion for ever.

²⁶ هر چند بدنم فرسوده و فکرم ضعیف گردد، امّا خداوند قوّت قلب و همه‌چیز من است.

²⁷For behold, they that are far from thee shall perish; thou destroyest every one that goeth a whoring from thee.

²⁷ کسانی‌که از تو دور می‌شوند، هلاک خواهند گردید. آنهایی را که به تو وفادار نیستند، نابود خواهی كرد. امّا برای من چقدر خوب است که همیشه به خدا نزدیک باشم. به خداوند متعال پناه می‌برم و تمام کارهای او را اعلام می‌کنم.

²⁸But as for me, it is good for me to draw near to God: I have put my trust in the Lord Jehovah, that I may declare all thy works.

²⁸ امّا برای من چقدر خوب است که همیشه به خدا نزدیک باشم. به خداوند متعال پناه می‌برم و تمام کارهای او را اعلام می‌کنم.
