¹Hear the word of Jehovah, ye children of Israel; for Jehovah hath a controversy with the inhabitants of the land; for there is no truth, nor goodness, nor knowledge of God in the land.

¹Počujte slovo Hospodinovo, synovia Izraelovi, lebo Hospodin má pravotu s obyvateľmi zeme, pretože niet pravdy ani milosrdenstva ani známosti Božej v zemi.

²Swearing, and lying, and killing, and stealing, and committing adultery, -- they break out; and blood toucheth blood.

²Kliatba, klamstvo, vražda, zlodejstvo a cudzoložstvo sa rozmohly a krv stíha krv.

³For this shall the land mourn, and every one that dwelleth therein shall languish, with the beasts of the field, and with the fowl of the heavens, yea, the fishes of the sea also shall be taken away.

³Preto bude smútiť zem, a zomdleje každý, kto býva v nej, i s poľnou zverou i s nebeským vtáctvom, ba i morské ryby pohynú.

⁴Yet let no man strive, and let no man reprove; for thy people are as they that strive with the priest.

⁴Ale pri tom nech sa len nikto nepravotí, ani nech nikto nekarhá, lebo tvoj ľud je podobný tým, ktorí sa vadia s kňazom.

⁵And thou shalt stumble by day; and the prophet also shall stumble with thee by night: and I will destroy thy mother.

⁵A preto klesneš toho dňa, a klesne i prorok s tebou, vnoci, a zahladím i tvoju mater.

⁶My people are destroyed for lack of knowledge; for thou hast rejected knowledge, and I will reject thee, that thou shalt be no priest to me; seeing thou hast forgotten the law of thy God, I also will forget thy children.

⁶Môj ľud bude vyhladený preto, že nieto známosti. Pretože si ty zavrhol známosť, zavrhnem i ja teba, aby si mi nekonal kňazskej služby, a pretože si zabudol na zákon svojho Boha, zabudnem i ja na tvojich synov.

⁷As they were multiplied, so they sinned against me: I will change their glory into shame.

⁷Čím viacej sa rozmáhali, tým viacej hrešili proti mne; premením ich slávu v potupu.

⁸They eat the sin of my people, and their soul longeth for their iniquity.

⁸Obeť za hriech môjho ľudu jedia a pozdvihujú svoju dušu k ich neprávosti.

⁹And it shall be as the people so the priest; and I will visit their ways upon them, and recompense to them their doings;

⁹Preto bude jako ľud tak i kňaz. A navštívim na ňom jeho cesty a vrátim mu na odplatu jeho skutky.

¹⁰and they shall eat, and not have enough; they shall commit whoredom, and shall not increase: for they have left off taking heed to Jehovah.

¹⁰A tak budú jesť, ale sa nenasýtia; budú smilniť, ale sa nerozmnožia, pretože opustili Hospodina odvrátiac od neho pozor.

¹¹Fornication, and wine, and new wine take away the heart.

¹¹Smilstvo, víno a vínna šťava odníma rozum.

¹²My people ask counsel of their stock, and their staff declareth unto them; for the spirit of whoredoms causeth [them] to err, and they have gone a whoring from under their God:

¹²Môj ľud sa dopytuje svojho dreva, a jeho palica mu oznamuje, čo má robiť, lebo duch smilstva uvodí do bludu, a smilnia vytiahnuc sa zpod správy svojho Boha.

¹³they sacrifice upon the tops of the mountains, and burn incense upon the hills, under oak and poplar and terebinth, because the shade thereof is good; therefore your daughters play the harlot and your daughters-in-law commit adultery.

¹³Na temenách vrchov obetujú a kadia na brehoch pod dubom, pod topoľou a pod brestom, lebo je dobrá ich tôňa. Preto smilnia vaše dcéry, a vaše nevesty cudzoložia.

¹⁴I will not punish your daughters when they play the harlot, nor your daughters-in-law for their committing adultery; for they themselves go aside with harlots, and they sacrifice with prostitutes: and the people that doth not understand shall come to ruin.

¹⁴Nenavštívim neprávosti na vašich dcérach, že smilnia, ani na vašich nevestách, že cudzoložia, - lebo oni sami odchádzajú v ústranie so smilnicami a obetujú s tými, ktoré sa zasvätily nepleche. Ale ľud, ktorý nerozumie, bude porazený.

¹⁵Though thou, Israel, play the harlot, let not Judah trespass; and come ye not unto Gilgal, neither go up to Beth-aven, nor swear [As] Jehovah liveth!

¹⁵Akže ty smilníš, Izraelu, nech sa nedopúšťa viny Júda! A nechoďte do Gilgala ani nechoďte hore do Bét-ávena, ani neprisahajte: Jako že žije Hospodin.

¹⁶For Israel is refractory as an untractable heifer; now will Jehovah feed them as a lamb in a wide [pasture].

¹⁶Lebo Izrael je spurný jako spurná jalovica; teraz ich bude pásť Hospodin ako baránka na šírine.

¹⁷-- Ephraim is joined to idols: leave him alone.

¹⁷Efraim sa pridružil modlám, nechaj ho.

¹⁸Their drink is sour; they give themselves up to whoredom; her great men passionately love [their] shame.

¹⁸Ich nápoj je spurný, smilnia nestudate, milujú, jej štíty - vladári milujú potupu.

¹⁹The wind hath wrapped her up in its wings, and they shall be ashamed because of their sacrifices.

¹⁹Vietor ho soberie (Efraima) do svojich krýdel, a budú sa hanbiť pre svoje obeti.
