1My son, forget not my teaching, and let thy heart observe my commandments;
1Môj synu, nezabudni môjho naučenia, a tvoje srdce nech pozoruje na moje prikázania,
2for length of days, and years of life, and peace shall they add to thee.
2lebo ti pridajú dlhosti dní a rokov života i pokoja.
3Let not loving-kindness and truth forsake thee; bind them about thy neck, write them upon the tablet of thy heart:
3Nech ťa neopustia milosrdenstvo a pravda; priviaž si ich na svoje hrdlo; napíš si ich na tabuľu svojho srdca,
4and thou shalt find favour and good understanding in the sight of God and man.
4a tak najdi milosť a výborný rozum v očiach Boha i ľudí.
5Confide in Jehovah with all thy heart, and lean not unto thine own intelligence;
5Nadej sa na Hospodina celým svojím srdcom a nespoliehaj sa na svoju rozumnosť.
6in all thy ways acknowledge him, and he will make plain thy paths.
6Poznávaj ho na všetkých svojich cestách, a on bude urovnávať tvoje stezky.
7Be not wise in thine own eyes; fear Jehovah, and depart from evil:
7Nebuď múdrym vo svojich vlastných očiach; boj sa Hospodina a odstúp od zlého.
8it shall be health for thy navel, and moisture for thy bones.
8To bude zdravím tvojmu životu a rozvlažením tvojim kostiam.
9Honour Jehovah with thy substance, and with the first-fruits of all thine increase;
9Cti Hospodina zo svojho majetku a z prvotiny všetkých svojich úrod.
10so shall thy barns be filled with plenty, and thy vats shall overflow with new wine.
10A tak sa naplnia tvoje stodoly hojnosťou, a tvoje preše budú oplývať šťavou z hrozna.
11My son, despise not the instruction of Jehovah, neither be weary of his chastisement;
11Môj synu, neopovrhuj kázňou Hospodinovou a nech sa ti neprotiví jeho káranie.
12for whom Jehovah loveth he chasteneth, even as a father the son in whom he delighteth.
12Lebo toho, koho miluje Hospodin, karhá, a to jako otec syna, ktorého má rád.
13Blessed is the man that findeth wisdom, and the man that getteth understanding.
13Blahoslavený človek, ktorý našiel múdrosť, a človek, ktorý nadobudol umnosti.
14For the gain thereof is better than the gain of silver, and her revenue than fine gold.
14Lebo jej zisk je lepší ako zisk striebra a jej dôchodok lepší ako výborné zlato.
15She is more precious than rubies; and all the things thou canst desire are not equal unto her.
15Je drahšia než koraly, a nevyrovnajú sa jej ani všetky tvoje najžiadúcnejšie veci.
16Length of days is in her right hand; in her left hand riches and honour.
16Dlhosť dní leží v jej pravici, v jej ľavici bohatstvo a sláva.
17Her ways are ways of pleasantness, and all her paths are peace.
17Jej cesty sú utešené cesty, a všetky jej chodníky sú samý pokoj.
18She is a tree of life to them that lay hold upon her; and happy is he that retaineth her.
18Stromom života je tým, ktorí ju uchopia, a tí, ktorí sa jej držia, sú blahoslavení.
19Jehovah by wisdom founded the earth; by understanding he established the heavens.
19Hospodin múdrosťou založil zem; umnosťou pevne postavil nebesia.
20By his knowledge the deeps were broken up, and the skies drop down the dew.
20Jeho známosťou prepukly priepasti, a oblaky kropia rosou.
21My son, let them not depart from thine eyes; keep sound wisdom and discretion:
21Môj synu, nech neodídu tie veci zpred tvojich očí; ostríhaj to, čo prospieva, a dômyselnosť.
22so shall they be life unto thy soul, and grace unto thy neck.
22A bude to životom tvojej duši a pôvabnou milotou tvojmu hrdlu.
23Then shalt thou walk in thy way securely, and thy foot shall not stumble;
23Vtedy pojdeš bezpečne svojou cestou a nenarazíš svojou nohou.
24when thou liest down, thou shalt not be afraid, but thou shalt lie down and thy sleep shall be sweet.
24Keď ľahneš, nebudeš sa strachovať, ale budeš ležať a odpočívať, a tvoj sen bude sladký.
25Be not afraid of sudden fear, neither of the destruction of the wicked, when it cometh;
25Neboj sa náhleho strachu ani búrky bezbožníkov, keď prijde.
26for Jehovah shall be thy confidence, and he will keep thy foot from being taken.
26Lebo Hospodin bude tvojou dôverou a bude ostríhať tvoju nohu, aby sa nelapila.
27Withhold not good from them to whom it is due, when it is in the power of thy hand to do it.
27Nezadržíš dobrodenia tým, ktorým patrí, keď je to v moci tvojej ruky vykonať to.
28Say not unto thy neighbour, Go, and come again, and to-morrow I will give, when thou hast it by thee.
28Nepovieš svojmu blížnemu: Iď a vráť sa potom, a dám zajtra, keď to máš u seba!
29Devise not evil against thy neighbour, seeing he dwelleth securely by thee.
29Nevymyslíš zlého na svojho blížneho, kým on v dôvere býva ubezpečený u teba.
30Strive not with a man without cause, if he have done thee no harm.
30Nevaď sa s človekom bez príčiny, ak ti neučinil zlého.
31Envy not the man of violence, and choose none of his ways.
31Nezáviď ukrutnému človekovi ani si nezvoľ niktorej jeho cesty.
32For the perverse is an abomination to Jehovah; but his secret is with the upright.
32Lebo ohavnosťou je Hospodinovi prevrátenec, ale jeho tajná rada s úprimnými.
33The curse of Jehovah is in the house of the wicked; but he blesseth the habitation of the righteous.
33Zlorečenstvo Hospodinovo je v dome bezbožného, ale príbytku spravedlivých žehná.
34He indeed scorneth the scorners; but he giveth grace unto the lowly.
34Posmievačom sa posmieva a pokorným dáva milosť.
35The wise shall inherit glory; but shame shall be the promotion of the foolish.
35Múdri zdedia slávu, ale blázni si odnášajú hanbu.
