1Hear the word of Jehovah, ye children of Israel; for Jehovah hath a controversy with the inhabitants of the land; for there is no truth, nor goodness, nor knowledge of God in the land.
1 Ya Israyla izey, wa maa Rabbi sanno: Zama Rabbi gonda kakaw da laabo gorokoy, Za kaŋ cimi wala bakaraw wala Irikoy bayray si no laabo ra.
2Swearing, and lying, and killing, and stealing, and committing adultery, -- they break out; and blood toucheth blood.
2 Hay kulu si no kala laaliyaŋ da amaana ŋwaari. I goono ga asariya* kulu daaru, da boro wiyaŋ, Da zaytaray, da zina. I ga care wi ka bana.
3For this shall the land mourn, and every one that dwelleth therein shall languish, with the beasts of the field, and with the fowl of the heavens, yea, the fishes of the sea also shall be taken away.
3 Woodin sabbay se no laabo go ga taabi, A ra gorokoy me-a-me mo ga te londibuunoyaŋ, Ngey da ganji hamey da beene curey, Oho, hala nda teeku ra hamey kulu mo, i go ga ban.
4Yet let no man strive, and let no man reprove; for thy people are as they that strive with the priest.
4 Kulu nda yaadin, boro kulu ma si kakaw, Boro kulu ma si deeni mo boro fo gaa, Amma a ga hima i ma kakaw da alfaga*.
5And thou shalt stumble by day; and the prophet also shall stumble with thee by night: and I will destroy thy mother.
5 Nin wo, _alfaga_, ni ga kati zaari kwaaray, Annabi* mo ga kati ni banda cin. Ay ga ni tiksa halaci mo.
6My people are destroyed for lack of knowledge; for thou hast rejected knowledge, and I will reject thee, that thou shalt be no priest to me; seeing thou hast forgotten the law of thy God, I also will forget thy children.
6 Ay borey halaci bayray-jaŋay sabbay se. Za kaŋ ni wangu bayray, Ay mo, ay ga wangu ni ma ciya ay alfaga. Za kaŋ ni na saalay kaa ay, ni Irikoyo asariya gaa, Ay mo, ay ga saalay kaa ni ize arey gaa.
7As they were multiplied, so they sinned against me: I will change their glory into shame.
7 Mate kaŋ alfagey tonton, Yaadin cine no zunubi kaŋ i ga te ay se tonton. Ay g'i darza bare ka ciya haawi.
8They eat the sin of my people, and their soul longeth for their iniquity.
8 I go ga du ngey ŋwaaro ay borey zunubey ra. I go ga ngey bine ibaay sinji i taaley gaa.
9And it shall be as the people so the priest; and I will visit their ways upon them, and recompense to them their doings;
9 A ga ciya mo, haŋ kaŋ ga du borey, Nga no ga du alfaga. Ay g'i gooji i muraadey sabbay se, Ay ga bana i se mo i goyey boŋ.
10and they shall eat, and not have enough; they shall commit whoredom, and shall not increase: for they have left off taking heed to Jehovah.
10 I ga ŋwa amma i si kungu, I ga zina amma i si tonton, Zama i na saalay kaa Rabbi gaa.
11Fornication, and wine, and new wine take away the heart.
11 Kaaruwataray, da duvan*, itajo da izeena, Ngey no k'i laakaley ta.
12My people ask counsel of their stock, and their staff declareth unto them; for the spirit of whoredoms causeth [them] to err, and they have gone a whoring from under their God:
12 Ay borey na saaware ceeci ngey bundu tooro gaa, I gunayaŋ goobo mo g'i kabarandi. Zama kaaruwataray* biya* n'i darandi, I fay da ngey Irikoyo ganayaŋ ka koy kaaruwataray banda.
13they sacrifice upon the tops of the mountains, and burn incense upon the hills, under oak and poplar and terebinth, because the shade thereof is good; therefore your daughters play the harlot and your daughters-in-law commit adultery.
13 I go ga sargayyaŋ te tondi yolley boŋ, I go ga dugu ton tudey boŋ, Da shen* nya, da saay nya nda boosay nya cire, Zama i biyo ga kaan. Woodin se no araŋ ize wayey goono ga te kaaruwayaŋ noodin, Araŋ ize arey wandey mo goono ga zina.
14I will not punish your daughters when they play the harlot, nor your daughters-in-law for their committing adultery; for they themselves go aside with harlots, and they sacrifice with prostitutes: and the people that doth not understand shall come to ruin.
14 Ay si araŋ ize wayey gooji d'i ga kaaruwataray te, Ay si araŋ ize arey wandey mo gooji d'i ga zina te, Zama alborey bumbey ga kamba ka koy zina-teerey banda. I ga sargayyaŋ te toorey windi kaaruwey banda. Yaadin mo no i ga borey kaŋ sinda fahamay halaci nd'a.
15Though thou, Israel, play the harlot, let not Judah trespass; and come ye not unto Gilgal, neither go up to Beth-aven, nor swear [As] Jehovah liveth!
15 Ya nin, Israyla, ba kaŋ day ni go ga kaaruwataray te, Kulu nda yaadin, Yahuda ma si taali te. Araŋ ma si koy Jilgal, Araŋ ma si kaaru ka koy Bayt-Aben ka ze da Rabbi maa!
16For Israel is refractory as an untractable heifer; now will Jehovah feed them as a lamb in a wide [pasture].
16 Za kaŋ Israyla te hanga sando danga haw zan hanga sando cine, Sohõ a ga du ka te no Rabbi m'i kuru danga feej'izeyaŋ nangu kaŋ gonda batama ra, wala?
17-- Ephraim is joined to idols: leave him alone.
17 Ifraymu margu nda toorey. Wa fay d'a.
18Their drink is sour; they give themselves up to whoredom; her great men passionately love [their] shame.
18 I baji haŋyaŋo banda no i ga kaaruwataray te waati kulu, I mayraykoyey ga ba haawi gumo.
19The wind hath wrapped her up in its wings, and they shall be ashamed because of their sacrifices.
