¹And he heard the words of Laban's sons, saying, Jacob has taken away all that was our father's, and of what was our father's he has acquired all this glory.

¹பின்பு, லாபானுடைய குமாரர்: எங்கள் தகப்பனுக்கு உண்டானவைகள் யாவையும் யாக்கோபு எடுத்துக்கொண்டான் என்றும், எங்கள் தகப்பனுடைய பொருளினாலே இந்தச் செல்வத்தையெல்லாம் அடைந்தான் என்றும் சொன்ன வார்த்தைகளை யாக்கோபு கேட்டான்.

²And Jacob saw the countenance of Laban, and behold, it was not toward him as previously.

²லாபானின் முகத்தை யாக்கோபு பார்த்தபோது, அது நேற்று முந்தைநாள் இருந்ததுபோல் இராமல் வேறுபட்டிருக்கக் கண்டான்.

³And Jehovah said to Jacob, Return into the land of thy fathers, and to thy kindred; and I will be with thee.

³கர்த்தர் யாக்கோபை நோக்கி: உன் பிதாக்களுடைய தேசத்திற்கும் உன் இனத்தாரிடத்திற்கும் நீ திரும்பிப்போ; நான் உன்னோடேகூட இருப்பேன் என்றார்.

⁴And Jacob sent and called Rachel and Leah to the fields to his flock,

⁴அப்பொழுது யாக்கோபு, ராகேலையும் லேயாளையும் வெளியிலே தன் மந்தையிடத்தில் அழைப்பித்து,

⁵and said to them, I see your father's countenance, that it is not toward me as previously; but the God of my father has been with me.

⁵அவர்களை நோக்கி உங்கள் தகப்பனுடைய முகம் நேற்று முந்தைநாள் இருந்ததுபோல இருக்கவில்லை என்று எனக்குத் தோன்றுகிறது; ஆனாலும் என் தகப்பனுடைய தேவன் என்னோடேகூட இருக்கிறார்.

⁶And you know that with all my power I have served your father.

⁶என்னால் இயன்றமட்டும் நான் உங்கள் தகப்பனுக்கு ஊழியஞ்செய்தேன் என்று நீங்கள் அறிந்திருக்கிறீர்கள்.

⁷And your father has mocked me, and has changed my wages ten times; but God suffered him not to hurt me.

⁷உங்கள் தகப்பனோ, என்னை வஞ்சித்து, என் சம்பளத்தைப் பத்துமுறை மாற்றினான்; ஆனாலும் அவன் எனக்குத் தீங்குசெய்ய தேவன் அவனுக்கு இடங்கொடுக்கவில்லை.

⁸If he said thus; The speckled shall be thy hire, then all the flocks bore speckled; and if he said thus: The ringstraked shall be thy hire, then all the flocks bore ringstraked.

⁸புள்ளியுள்ளவைகள் உன் சம்பளமாயிருக்கும் என்று அவன் சொன்னபோது, ஆடுகளெல்லாம் புள்ளியுள்ள குட்டிகளைப் போட்டது; கலப்புநிறமானவைகள் உன் சம்பளமாயிருக்கும் என்று அவன் சொன்னபோது, ஆடுகளெல்லாம் கலப்பு நிறக் குட்டிகளைப் போட்டது.

⁹And God has taken away the cattle of your father, and given [them] to me.

⁹இவ்விதமாய் தேவன் உங்கள் தகப்பனுடைய ஆடுகளை எடுத்து, எனக்குத் தந்தார்.

¹⁰And it came to pass at the time of the ardour of the flocks, that I lifted up mine eyes, and saw in a dream, and behold, the rams that leaped upon the flocks were ringstraked, speckled, and spotted.

¹⁰ஆடுகள் பொலியும் காலத்திலே நான் கண்ட சொப்பனத்தில் என் கண்களை ஏறெடுத்துப் பார்க்கும்போது, ஆடுகளோடே பொலியும் கடாக்கள் கலப்புநிறமும் புள்ளியும் வரியும் உள்ளவைகளாயிருக்கக் கண்டேன்.

¹¹And the Angel of God said to me in a dream, Jacob! And I said, Here am I.

¹¹அன்றியும் தேவதூதன் ஒருவர் சொப்பனத்தில்: யாக்கோபே என்றார்; இதோ, இருக்கிறேன் என்றேன்.

¹²And he said, Lift up now thine eyes, and see: all the rams that leap upon the flock are ringstraked, speckled, and spotted; for I have seen all that Laban does to thee.

¹²அப்பொழுது அவர்: உன் கண்களை ஏறெடுத்துப்பார்; ஆடுகளோடே பொலியும் கடாக்களெல்லாம் கலப்புநிறமும் புள்ளியும் வரியுமுள்ளவைகளாய் இருக்கிறது; லாபான் உனக்குச் செய்கிற யாவையும் கண்டேன்.

¹³I am the ùGod of Bethel, where thou anointedst the pillar, where thou vowedst a vow to me. Now arise, depart out of this land, and return to the land of thy kindred.

¹³நீ தூணுக்கு அபிஷேகஞ்செய்து, எனக்கு ஒரு பொருத்தனையைப் பண்ணின பெத்தேலிலே உனக்குத் தரிசனமான தேவன் நானே; இப்பொழுது நீ எழுந்து, இந்தத் தேசத்தைவிட்டுப் புறப்பட்டு, உன் இனத்தாரிருக்கிற தேசத்திற்குத் திரும்பிப்போ என்று சொன்னார் என்றான்.

¹⁴And Rachel and Leah answered and said to him, Is there yet any portion or inheritance for us in our father's house?

¹⁴அதற்கு ராகேலும் லேயாளும்: எங்கள் தகப்பன் வீட்டிலே இனி எங்களுக்குப் பங்கும் சுதந்தரமும் உண்டோ?

¹⁵Are we not reckoned of him strangers? for he has sold us, and has even constantly devoured our money.

¹⁵அவரால் நாங்கள் அந்நியராய் எண்ணப்படவில்லையா? அவர் எங்களை விற்று, எங்கள் பணத்தையும் வாயிலே போட்டுக்கொண்டார்.

¹⁶For all the wealth that God has taken from our father is ours and our children's; and now whatever God has said to thee do.

¹⁶ஆகையால் தேவன் எங்கள் தகப்பனிடத்திலிருந்து எடுத்த ஐசுவரியம் எல்லாம் நமக்கும் நம்முடைய பிள்ளைகளுக்கும் உரியது; இப்படியிருக்க, தேவன் உமக்குச் சொன்னபடியெல்லாம் செய்யும் என்றார்கள்.

¹⁷And Jacob rose up, and set his sons and his wives upon camels,

¹⁷அப்பொழுது யாக்கோபு எழுந்து, தன் பிள்ளைகளையும் தன் மனைவிகளையும் ஒட்டகங்கள்மேல் ஏற்றி,

¹⁸and carried away all his cattle, and all his property that he had acquired -- the cattle of his possessions that he had acquired in Padan-Aram, to go to Isaac his father, into the land of Canaan.

¹⁸தான் பதான் அராமிலே சம்பாதித்த மிருகஜீவன்களாகிய மந்தைகள் அனைத்தையும் தன் பொருள்கள் எல்லாவற்றையும் எடுத்துக்கொண்டு, கானான் தேசத்தில் இருக்கிற தன் தகப்பனாகிய ஈசாக்கினிடத்துக்குப் போகப் புறப்பட்டான்.

¹⁹And Laban had gone to shear his sheep. And Rachel stole the teraphim that [belonged] to her father.

¹⁹லாபான், தன் ஆடுகளை மயிர்கத்தரிக்கப் போயிருந்தான்; அந்தச் சமயத்திலே ராகேல் தன் தகப்பனுடைய சுரூபங்களைத் திருடிக்கொண்டாள்.

²⁰And Jacob deceived Laban the Syrian, in that he did not tell him that he fled.

²⁰யாக்கோபு தான் ஓடிப்போகிறதைச் சீரியனாகிய லாபானுக்கு அறிவியாமல், திருட்டளவாய்ப் போய்விட்டான்.

²¹And he fled with all that he had; and he rose up and passed over the river, and set his face [toward] mount Gilead.

²¹இப்படியே அவன் தனக்கு உண்டானவைகளையெல்லாம் எடுத்துக்கொண்டு, ஆற்றைக் கடந்து, கீலேயாத் மலையை நோக்கி ஓடிப்போனான்.

²²And it was told Laban on the third day that Jacob had fled.

²²யாக்கோபு ஓடிப்போனது மூன்றாம் நாளிலே லாபானுக்கு அறிவிக்கப்பட்டது.

²³And he took his brethren with him, and pursued after him seven days' journey, and overtook him on mount Gilead.

²³அப்பொழுது அவன், தன் சகோதரரைக் கூட்டிக்கொண்டு, ஏழுநாள் பிரயாணபரியந்தம் அவனைத் தொடர்ந்து போய், கீலேயாத் மலையிலே அவனைக் கண்டுபிடித்தான்.

²⁴And God came to Laban the Syrian in a dream by night, and said to him, Take care thou speak not to Jacob either good or bad.

²⁴அன்று ராத்திரி தேவன் சீரியா தேசத்தானாகிய லாபானுக்குச் சொப்பனத்தில் தோன்றி: நீ யாக்கோபோடே நன்மையே அன்றித் தீமை ஒன்றும் பேசாதபடிக்கு எச்சரிக்கையாயிரு என்றார்.

²⁵And Laban came up with Jacob; and Jacob had pitched his tent on the mountain; Laban also with his brethren pitched on mount Gilead.

²⁵லாபான் யாக்கோபினிடத்தில் வந்தான்; யாக்கோபு மலையிலே தன் கூடாரத்தைப் போட்டிருந்தான்; லாபானும் தன் சகோதரரோடேகூடக் கீலேயாத் மலையிலே கூடாரம் போட்டான்.

²⁶And Laban said to Jacob, What hast thou done, that thou hast deceived me, and hast carried away my daughters as captives of war?

²⁶அப்பொழுது லாபான் யாக்கோபை நோக்கி: நீ திருட்டளவாய்ப் புறப்பட்டு, என் குமாரத்திகளை யுத்தத்தில் பிடித்த சிறைகளைப்போலக் கொண்டுவந்தது என்ன செய்கை?

²⁷Why didst thou flee away covertly, and steal away from me, and didst not tell me, that I might have conducted thee with mirth and with songs, with tambour and with harp;

²⁷நீ ஓடிப்போவதை மறைத்து, எனக்கு அறிவியாமல், திருட்டளவாய் என்னிடத்திலிருந்து வந்துவிட்டது என்ன? நான் உன்னைச் சந்தோஷமாய், சங்கீதம் மேளதாளம் கின்னரமுழக்கத்துடனே அனுப்புவேனே.

²⁸and hast not suffered me to kiss my sons and my daughters? Now thou hast acted foolishly.

²⁸என் பிள்ளைகளையும் என் குமாரத்திகளையும் நான் முத்தஞ்செய்ய விடாமல் போனதென்ன? இந்தச் செய்கையை நீ மதியில்லாமல் செய்தாய்.

²⁹It would be in the power of my hand to do you hurt; but the God of your father spoke to me last night, saying, Take care that thou speak not to Jacob either good or bad.

²⁹உங்களுக்குப் பொல்லாப்புச்செய்ய எனக்கு வல்லமை உண்டு; ஆகிலும், உங்கள் தகப்பனுடைய தேவன்: நீ யாக்கோபோடே நன்மையே அன்றித் தீமை ஒன்றும் பேசாதபடிக்கு எச்சரிக்கையாயிரு என்று நேற்று இராத்திரி என்னோடே சொன்னார்.

³⁰And now that thou must needs be gone, because thou greatly longedst after thy father's house, why hast thou stolen my gods?

³⁰இப்பொழுதும் உன் தகப்பனுடைய வீட்டின்மேலுள்ள வாஞ்சையினால் நீ புறப்பட்டுப்போகிறதானால் போகலாம், என் தெய்வங்களை ஏன் திருடிக்கொண்டு போகிறாய் என்று கேட்டான்.

³¹And Jacob answered and said to Laban, I was afraid; for I said, Lest thou shouldest take by force thy daughters from me.

³¹யாக்கோபு லாபானுக்குப் பிரதியுத்தரமாக: உம்முடைய குமாரத்திகளைப் பலாத்காரமாய்ப் பிடித்து வைத்துக்கொள்வீர் என்று நான் அஞ்சினதினாலே இப்படி வந்துவிட்டேன்.

³²With whomsoever thou findest thy gods, he shall not live. Before our brethren discern what is thine with me, and take [it] to thee. But Jacob did not know that Rachel had stolen them.

³²ஆனாலும் யாரிடத்தில் உம்முடைய தெய்வங்களைக் கண்டுபிடிக்கிறீரோ, அவனை உயிரோடே விடவேண்டாம்; உம்முடைய பொருள்கள் ஏதாவது என் வசத்தில் உண்டானால் நீர் அதை நம்முடைய சகோதரருக்கு முன்பாகப் பரிசோதித்தறிந்து, அதை எடுத்துக்கொள்ளும் என்றான். ராகேல் அவைகளைத் திருடிக்கொண்டு வந்ததை யாக்கோபு அறியாதிருந்தான்.

³³And Laban went into Jacob's tent, and into Leah's tent, and into the two handmaids' tents, and found nothing; and he went out of Leah's tent, and entered into Rachel's tent.

³³அப்பொழுது லாபான் யாக்கோபின் கூடாரத்திலும், லேயாளின் கூடாரத்திலும், இரண்டு வேலைக்காரிகளின் கூடாரத்திலும் பிரவேசித்துப் பார்த்தும் ஒன்றும் கண்டுபிடிக்கவில்லை; பின்பு, லேயாளின் கூடாரத்தைவிட்டு ராகேலின் கூடாரத்துக்குப் போனான்.

³⁴Now Rachel had taken the teraphim and put them under the camel's saddle; and she sat upon them. And Laban explored all the tent, but found nothing.

³⁴ராகேல் அந்தச் சுரூபங்களை எடுத்து, ஒட்டகச் சேணத்தின்கீழ் வைத்து, அதின்மேல் உட்கார்ந்திருந்தாள். லாபான் கூடாரம் எங்கும் தடவிப்பார்த்தும், அவைகளைக் கண்டுபிடிக்கவில்லை.

³⁵And she said to her father, Let it not be an occasion of anger in the eyes of my lord that I cannot rise up before thee, for it is with me after the manner of women. And he searched carefully, but did not find the teraphim.

³⁵அவள் தன் தகப்பனை நோக்கி: என் ஆண்டவனாகிய உமக்கு முன்பாக நான் எழுந்திராததைக்குறித்துக் கோபங்கொள்ளவேண்டாம்; ஸ்திரீகளுக்குள்ள வழிபாடு எனக்கு உண்டாயிருக்கிறது என்றாள்; அப்படியே அவன் அந்தச் சுரூபங்களைத் தேடியும் கண்டுபிடிக்கவில்லை.

³⁶And Jacob was angry, and he disputed with Laban. And Jacob answered and said to Laban, What is my fault, what my sin, that thou hast so hotly pursued after me?

³⁶அப்பொழுது யாக்கோபுக்குக் கோபம் எழும்பி, லாபானோடே வாக்குவாதம்பண்ணி: நீர் என்னை இவ்வளவு உக்கிரமாய்த் தொடர்ந்துவரும்படிக்கு நான் செய்த தப்பிதம் என்ன? நான் செய்த துரோகம் என்ன?

³⁷Whereas thou hast explored all my baggage, what hast thou found of all thy household stuff? Set [it] here before my brethren and thy brethren, and let them decide between us both.

³⁷என் தட்டுமுட்டுகளையெல்லாம் தடவிப்பார்த்தீரே; உம்முடைய வீட்டுத் தட்டுமுட்டுகளில் என்னத்தைக் கண்டுபிடித்தீர்? அதை என்னுடைய சகோதரருக்கும் உம்முடைய சகோதரருக்கும் முன்பாக இங்கே வையும்; அவர்கள் எனக்கும் உமக்கும் நடுத்தீர்க்கட்டும்.

³⁸These twenty years have I been with thee: thy ewes and thy she-goats have not cast their young, and the rams of thy flock I have not eaten.

³⁸இந்த இருபது வருஷகாலமாய் நான் உம்மிடத்தில் இருந்தேன்; உம்முடைய செம்மறியாடுகளும் வெள்ளாடுகளும் சினையழியவில்லை; உம்முடைய மந்தையின் கடாக்களை நான் தின்னவில்லை.

³⁹What was torn I have not brought to thee; I had to bear the loss of it: of my hand hast thou required it, [whether] stolen by day or stolen by night.

³⁹பீறுண்டதை நான் உம்மிடத்துக்குக் கொண்டுவராமல், அதற்காக நான் உத்தரவாதம்பண்ணினேன்; பகலில் களவுபோனதையும், இரவில் களவுபோனதையும் என் கையில் கேட்டு வாங்கினீர்.

⁴⁰Thus it was with me: in the day the heat consumed me, and the frost by night; and my sleep fled from mine eyes.

⁴⁰பகலிலே வெயிலும் இரவிலே குளிரும் என்னைப் பட்சித்தது; நித்திரை என் கண்களுக்குத் தூரமாயிருந்தது; இவ்விதமாய்ப் பாடுபட்டேன்.

⁴¹I have been these twenty years in thy house: I have served thee fourteen years for thy two daughters, and six years for thy flock; and thou hast changed my wages ten times.

⁴¹இந்த இருபது வருஷகாலம் உம்முடைய வீட்டிலே இருந்தேன்; பதினாலு வருஷம் உம்முடைய இரண்டு குமாரத்திகளுக்காகவும், ஆறு வருஷம் உம்முடைய மந்தைக்காகவும் உம்மிடத்தில் சேவித்தேன்; பத்துமுறை என் சம்பளத்தை மாற்றினீர்.

⁴²Had not the God of my father, the God of Abraham, and the fear of Isaac, been with me, it is certain thou wouldest have sent me away now empty. God has looked upon my affliction and the labour of my hands, and has judged last night.

⁴²என் பிதாவின் தேவனாகிய ஆபிரகாமின் தேவனும் ஈசாக்கின் பயபக்திக்குரியவரும் என்னோடிராமற்போனால், நீர் இப்பொழுது என்னை வெறுமையாய் அனுப்பிவிட்டிருப்பீர்; தேவன் என் சிறுமையையும் என் கைப்பிரயாசத்தையும் பார்த்து, நேற்று இராத்திரி உம்மைக் கடிந்துகொண்டார் என்று சொன்னான்.

⁴³And Laban answered and said to Jacob, The daughters are my daughters, and the sons are my sons, and the flock is my flock, and all that thou seest is mine; but as for my daughters, what can I do this day to them, or to their sons whom they have brought forth?

⁴³அப்பொழுது லாபான் யாக்கோபுக்குப் பிரதியுத்தரமாக: இந்தக் குமாரத்திகள் என் குமாரத்திகள், இந்தப் பிள்ளைகள் என் பிள்ளைகள், இந்த மந்தை என் மந்தை; நீ காண்கிற யாவும் என்னுடையவைகள்; என் குமாரத்திகளாகிய இவர்களையும், இவர்கள் பெற்ற பிள்ளைகளையும் இன்று நான் என்ன செய்யக்கூடும்?

⁴⁴And now, come, let us make a covenant, I and thou; and let it be a witness between me and thee.

⁴⁴இப்பொழுதும் எனக்கும் உனக்கும் சாட்சியாயிருக்கும்பொருட்டு, நீயும் நானும் உடன்படிக்கைபண்ணிக்கொள்ளக்கடவோம் என்றான்.

⁴⁵And Jacob took a stone, and set it up [for] a pillar.

⁴⁵அப்பொழுது யாக்கோபு ஒரு கல்லை எடுத்து, அதைத் தூணாக நிறுத்தினான்.

⁴⁶And Jacob said to his brethren, Gather stones. And they took stones, and made a heap, and ate there upon the heap.

⁴⁶பின்னும் யாக்கோபு தன் சகோதரரைப் பார்த்து, கற்களைக் குவியலாகச் சேருங்கள் என்றான்; அவர்கள் கற்களை எடுத்துக்கொண்டுவந்து, ஒரு குவியலாக்கி, அந்தக் குவியலின்மேல் போஜனம் பண்ணினார்கள்.

⁴⁷And Laban called it Jegar-sahadutha, and Jacob called it Galeed.

⁴⁷லாபான் அதற்கு ஜெகர்சகதூதா என்று பேரிட்டான்; யாக்கோபு அதற்குக் கலயெத் என்று பேரிட்டான்.

⁴⁸And Laban said, This heap is a witness between me and thee this day. Therefore was the name of it called Galeed,

⁴⁸இந்தக் குவியல் இன்று எனக்கும் உனக்கும் சாட்சி என்று லாபான் சொன்னபடியினாலே, அதின் பேர் கலயெத் என்னப்பட்டது.

⁴⁹-- and Mizpah; for he said, Let Jehovah watch between me and thee, when we shall be hidden one from another:

⁴⁹அல்லாமலும் அவன்: நாம் ஒருவரை ஒருவர் விட்டு மறைந்தபின், நீ என் குமாரத்திகளைத் துயரப்படுத்தி, அவர்களையல்லாமல் வேறே ஸ்திரீகளை விவாகம்பண்ணினாயானால், கர்த்தர் எனக்கும் உனக்கும் நடுநின்று கண்காணிக்கக்கடவர்;

⁵⁰if thou shouldest afflict my daughters, or if thou shouldest take wives besides my daughters, -- no man is with us; see, God is witness between me and thee!

⁵⁰நம்முடனே ஒருவரும் இல்லை; பார், தேவனே எனக்கும் உனக்கும் சாட்சி என்று சொன்னபடியால், அது மிஸ்பா என்னும் பேர்பெற்றது.

⁵¹And Laban said to Jacob, Behold this heap, and behold the pillar which I have set up between me and thee:

⁵¹பின்னும் லாபான் யாக்கோபை நோக்கி: இதோ, இந்தக் குவியலையும் எனக்கும் உனக்கும் நடுவாக நான் நிறுத்தின தூணையும் பார்.

⁵²[let] this heap be witness, and the pillar a witness, that neither I pass this heap [to go] to thee, nor thou pass this heap and this pillar [to come] to me, for harm.

⁵²தீங்குசெய்ய நான் இந்தக் குவியலைக் கடந்து உன்னிடத்துக்கு வராதபடிக்கும், நீ இந்தக் குவியலையும் இந்தத் தூணையும் கடந்து என்னிடத்துக்கு வராதபடிக்கும் இந்தக் குவியலும் சாட்சி, இந்தத் தூணும் சாட்சி.

⁵³The God of Abraham, and the God of Nahor, the God of their father, judge between us! And Jacob swore by the fear of his father Isaac.

⁵³ஆபிரகாமின் தேவனும் நாகோரின் தேவனும் அவர்கள் பிதாக்களின் தேவனுமாயிருக்கிறவர் நமக்குள்ளே நடுநின்று நியாயந்தீர்ப்பாராக என்றான். அப்பொழுது யாக்கோபு தன் தகப்பனாகிய ஈசாக்கின் பயபக்திக்குரியவர்மேல் ஆணையிட்டான்.

⁵⁴And Jacob offered a sacrifice upon the mountain, and invited his brethren to eat bread: and they ate bread, and lodged on the mountain.

⁵⁴பின்பு, யாக்கோபு மலையின்மேல் பலியிட்டு, போஜனம்பண்ணும்படி தன் சகோதரரை அழைத்தான்; அப்படியே அவர்கள் போஜனம்பண்ணி மலையிலே இராத்தங்கினார்கள்.

⁵⁵And Laban rose early in the morning, and kissed his sons and his daughters, and blessed them; and Laban went and returned to his place.

⁵⁵லாபான் அதிகாலமே எழுந்திருந்து, தன் குமாரரையும் தன் குமாரத்திகளையும் முத்தஞ்செய்து, அவர்களை ஆசீர்வதித்தான். பின்பு லாபான் புறப்பட்டு, தன் இடத்துக்குத் திரும்பிப்போனான்.
