1And Jacob went on his way; and the angels of God met him.
1யாக்கோபு பிரயாணம் பண்ணுகையில், தேவதூதர்கள் அவனைச் சந்தித்தார்கள்.
2And when Jacob saw them he said, This is the camp of God. And he called the name of that place Mahanaim.
2யாக்கோபு அவர்களைக் கண்டபோது: இது தேவனுடைய சேனை என்று சொல்லி, அந்த ஸ்தலத்திற்கு மக்னாயீம் என்று பேரிட்டான்.
3And Jacob sent messengers before his face to Esau his brother, into the land of Seir, the fields of Edom.
3பின்பு, யாக்கோபு ஏதோம் சீமையாகிய சேயீர் தேசத்திலிருக்கிற தன் சகோதரனாகிய ஏசாவினிடத்துக்குப் போகும்படி ஆட்களை அழைப்பித்து:
4And he commanded them, saying, Thus shall ye speak to my lord, to Esau: Thy servant Jacob speaks thus -- With Laban have I sojourned and tarried until now;
4நீங்கள் என் ஆண்டவனாகிய ஏசாவினிடத்தில் போய், நான் இதுவரைக்கும் லாபானிடத்தில் தங்கியிருந்தேன் என்றும்,
5and I have oxen, and asses, sheep, and bondmen, and bondwomen; and I have sent to tell my lord, that I may find favour in thine eyes.
5எனக்கு எருதுகளும், கழுதைகளும், ஆடுகளும், வேலைக்காரரும், வேலைக்காரிகளும் உண்டென்றும், உம்முடைய கண்களில் எனக்குத் தயவு கிடைக்கத்தக்கதாக ஆண்டவனாகிய உமக்கு இதை அறிவிக்கும்படி ஆட்களை அனுப்பினேன் என்றும் உம்முடைய தாசனாகிய யாக்கோபு சொல்லச்சொன்னான் என்று சொல்லும்படி கட்டளைகொடுத்துத் தனக்கு முன்னாக அவர்களை அனுப்பினான்.
6And the messengers returned to Jacob, saying, We came to thy brother, to Esau; and he also is coming to meet thee, and four hundred men with him.
6அந்த ஆட்கள் யாக்கோபினிடத்துக்குத் திரும்பிவந்து: நாங்கள் உம்முடைய சகோதரனாகிய ஏசாவினிடத்துக்குப் போய்வந்தோம்; அவரும் நானூறு பேரோடே உம்மை எதிர்கொள்ள வருகிறார் என்றார்கள்.
7Then Jacob was greatly afraid, and was distressed; and he divided the people that were with him, and the sheep and the cattle and the camels, into two troops.
7அப்பொழுது யாக்கோபு மிகவும் பயந்து, வியாகுலப்பட்டு, தன்னிடத்திலிருந்த ஜனங்களையும் ஆடுமாடுகளையும் ஒட்டகங்களையும் இரண்டு பகுதியாகப்பிரித்து:
8And he said, If Esau come to the one troop and smite it, then the other troop which is left shall escape.
8ஏசா ஒரு பகுதியின்மேல் விழுந்து அதை முறிய அடித்தாலும், மற்றப் பகுதி தப்பித்துக்கொள்ள இடம் உண்டு என்றான்.
9And Jacob said, God of my father Abraham, and God of my father Isaac, Jehovah, who saidst unto me: Return into thy country and to thy kindred, and I will do thee good,
9பின்பு யாக்கோபு: என் தகப்பனாகிய ஆபிரகாமின் தேவனும், என் தகப்பனாகிய ஈசாக்கின் தேவனுமாய் இருக்கிறவரே: உன் தேசத்துக்கும் உன் இனத்தாரிடத்துக்கும் திரும்பிப்போ, உனக்கு நன்மை செய்வேன் என்று என்னுடனே சொல்லியிருக்கிற கர்த்தாவே,
10-- I am too small for all the loving-kindness and all the faithfulness that thou hast shewn unto thy servant; for with my staff I passed over this Jordan, and now I am become two troops.
10அடியேனுக்கு தேவரீர் காண்பித்த எல்லா தயவுக்கும் எல்லா சத்தியத்துக்கும் நான் எவ்வளவேனும் பாத்திரன் அல்ல, நான் கோலும் கையுமாய் இந்த யோர்தானைக் கடந்துபோனேன்; இப்பொழுது இவ்விரண்டு பரிவாரங்களையும் உடையவனானேன்.
11Deliver me, I pray thee, from the hand of my brother, from the hand of Esau; for I fear him, lest he come and smite me, [and] the mother with the children.
11என் சகோதரனாகிய ஏசாவின் கைக்கு என்னைத் தப்புவியும், அவன் வந்து என்னையும் பிள்ளைகளையும் தாய்மார்களையும் முறிய அடிப்பான் என்று அவனுக்கு நான் பயந்திருக்கிறேன்.
12And thou saidst, I will certainly deal well with thee, and make thy seed as the sand of the sea, which cannot be numbered for multitude.
12தேவரீரோ: நான் உனக்கு மெய்யாகவே நன்மைசெய்து, உன் சந்ததியை எண்ணிமுடியாத கடற்கரை மணலைப்போல மிகவும் பெருகப்பண்ணுவேன் என்று சொன்னீரே என்றான்.
13And he lodged there that night; and took of what came to his hand a gift for Esau his brother --
13அன்று இராத்திரி அவன் அங்கே தங்கி, தன் கைக்கு உதவினவைகளிலே தன் சகோதரனாகிய ஏசாவுக்கு வெகுமானமாக,
14two hundred she-goats, and twenty he-goats; two hundred ewes, and twenty rams;
14இருநூறு வெள்ளாடுகளையும், இருபது வெள்ளாட்டுக் கடாக்களையும், இருநூறு செம்மறியாடுகளையும், இருபது ஆட்டுக்கடாக்களையும்,
15thirty milch camels with their colts; forty kine, and ten bulls; twenty she-asses, and ten young asses.
15பால் கொடுக்கிற முப்பது ஒட்டகங்களையும், அவைகளின் குட்டிகளையும், நாற்பது கடாரிகளையும், பத்துக் காளைகளையும் இருபது கோளிகைக் கழுதைகளையும், பத்துக் கழுதைக்குட்டிகளையும் பிரித்தெடுத்து,
16And he delivered [them] into the hand of his servants, every drove by itself; and he said to his servants, Go on before me, and put a space between drove and drove.

17And he commanded the foremost, saying, When Esau my brother meets thee, and asks thee, saying, Whose art thou, and where goest thou, and whose are these before thee?
17முன்னே போகிறவனை நோக்கி: என் சகோதரனாகிய ஏசா உனக்கு எதிர்ப்பட்டு: நீ யாருடையவன்? எங்கே போகிறாய்? உனக்குமுன் போகிற மந்தை யாருடையது? என்று உன்னைக் கேட்டால்,
18-- then thou shalt say, Thy servant Jacob's: it is a gift sent to my lord, to Esau. And behold, he also is behind us.
18நீ: இது உமது அடியானாகிய யாக்கோபுடையது; இது என் ஆண்டவனாகிய ஏசாவுக்கு அனுப்பப்படுகிற வெகுமதி; இதோ, அவனும் எங்கள் பின்னே வருகிறான் என்று சொல் என்றான்.
19And so commanded he the second, and the third, and all that followed the droves, saying, According to this word shall ye speak to Esau when ye find him.
19இரண்டாம் மூன்றாம் வேலைக்காரனையும், மந்தைகளின் பின்னாலே போகிற அனைவரையும் நோக்கி: நீங்களும் ஏசாவைக் காணும்போது, இந்தப்பிரகாரமாக அவனோடே சொல்லி,
20And, moreover, ye shall say, Behold, thy servant Jacob is behind us. For he said, I will propitiate him with the gift that goes before me, and afterwards I will see his face: perhaps he will accept me.
20இதோ, உமது அடியானாகிய யாக்கோபு எங்கள் பின்னாலே வருகிறான் என்றும் சொல்லுங்கள் என்று கட்டளையிட்டான்; முன்னே வெகுமதியை அனுப்பி, அவனைச் சாந்தப்படுத்திக்கொண்டு, பின்பு அவன் முகத்தைப் பார்ப்பேன், அப்பொழுது ஒருவேளை என்பேரில் தயவாயிருப்பான் என்றான்.
21And the gift went over before him; and he himself lodged that night in the camp.
21அந்தப்படியே வெகுமதி அவனுக்குமுன் போயிற்று; அவனோ அன்று இராத்திரி பாளயத்திலே தங்கி,
22And he rose up that night, and took his two wives, and his two maidservants, and his eleven sons, and passed over the ford of the Jabbok;
22இராத்திரியில் எழுந்திருந்து, தன் இரண்டு மனைவிகளையும், தன் இரண்டு பணிவிடைக்காரிகளையும், தன்னுடைய பதினொரு குமாரரையும் கூட்டிக்கொண்டு, யாப்போக்கு என்கிற ஆற்றின் துறையைக் கடந்தான்.
23and he took them and led them over the river, and led over what he had.
23அவர்களையும் சேர்த்து, ஆற்றைக்கடக்கப்பண்ணி, தனக்கு உண்டான யாவையும் அக்கரைப்படுத்தினான்.
24And Jacob remained alone; and a man wrestled with him until the rising of the dawn.
24யாக்கோபு பிந்தித் தனித்திருந்தான்; அப்பொழுது ஒரு புருஷன் பொழுது விடியுமளவும் அவனுடனே போராடி,
25And when he saw that he did not prevail against him, he touched the joint of his thigh; and the joint of Jacob's thigh was dislocated as he wrestled with him.
25அவனை மேற்கொள்ளாததைக்கண்டு, அவனுடைய தொடைச்சந்தைத் தொட்டார்; அதினால் அவருடனே போராடுகையில் யாக்கோபின் தொடைச்சந்து சுளுக்கிற்று.
26And he said, Let me go, for the dawn ariseth. And he said, I will not let thee go except thou bless me.
26அவர்: நான் போகட்டும், பொழுது விடிகிறது என்றார். அதற்கு அவன்: நீர் என்னை ஆசீர்வதித்தாலொழிய உம்மைப் போகவிடேன் என்றான்.
27And he said to him, What is thy name? And he said, Jacob.
27அவர்: உன் பேர் என்ன என்று கேட்டார்; யாக்கோபு என்றான்.
28And he said, Thy name shall not henceforth be called Jacob, but Israel; for thou hast wrestled with God, and with men, and hast prevailed.
28அப்பொழுது அவர்: உன் பேர் இனி யாக்கோபு என்னப்படாமல் இஸ்ரவேல் என்னப்படும்; தேவனோடும் மனிதரோடும் போராடி மேற்கொண்டாயே என்றார்.
29And Jacob asked and said, Tell [me], I pray thee, thy name. And he said, How is it that thou askest after my name? And he blessed him there.
29அப்பொழுது யாக்கோபு: உம்முடைய நாமத்தை எனக்கு அறிவிக்கவேண்டும் என்று கேட்டான்; அதற்கு அவர்: நீ என் நாமத்தைக் கேட்பானேன் என்று சொல்லி, அங்கே அவனை ஆசீர்வதித்தார்.
30And Jacob called the name of the place Peniel -- For I have seen God face to face, and my life has been preserved.
30அப்பொழுது யாக்கோபு: நான் தேவனை முகமுகமாய்க் கண்டேன், உயிர் தப்பிப் பிழைத்தேன் என்று சொல்லி, அந்த ஸ்தலத்துக்கு பெனியேல் என்று பேரிட்டான்.
31And as he passed over Peniel, the sun rose upon him; and he limped upon his hip.
31அவன் பெனியேலைக் கடந்துபோகையில், சூரியன் உதயமாயிற்று; அவன் தொடைச்சுளுக்கினாலே நொண்டி நொண்டி நடந்தான்.
32Therefore the children of Israel do not eat of the sinew that is over the joint of the thigh, to this day; because he touched the joint of Jacob's thigh -- the sinew.
32அவர் யாக்கோபுடைய தொடைச்சந்து நரம்பைத் தொட்டபடியால், இஸ்ரவேல் புத்திரர் இந்நாள்வரைக்கும் தொடைச்சந்து நரம்பைப் புசிக்கிறதில்லை.
