¹After these things was a feast of the Jews, and Jesus went up to Jerusalem.

¹หลังจากนั้นก็ถึงเทศกาลเลี้ยงของพวกยิว และพระเยซูก็เสด็จขึ้นไปยังกรุงเยรูซาเล็ม

²Now there is in Jerusalem, at the sheepgate, a pool, which is called in Hebrew, Bethesda, having five porches.

²ในกรุงเยรูซาเล็มที่ริมประตูแกะมีสระอยู่สระหนึ่ง ภาษาฮีบรูเรียกสระนั้นว่า เบธซาธา เป็นที่ซึ่งมีศาลาห้าหลัง

³In these lay a multitude of sick, blind, lame, withered, [awaiting the moving of the water.

³ในศาลาเหล่านั้นมีคนป่วยเป็นอันมากนอนอยู่ คนตาบอด คนง่อย คนผอมแห้ง กำลังคอยน้ำกระเพื่อม

⁴For an angel descended at a certain season in the pool and troubled the water. Whoever therefore first went in after the troubling of the water became well, whatever disease he laboured under.]

⁴ด้วยมีทูตสวรรค์องค์หนึ่งลงมากวนน้ำในสระนั้นเป็นครั้งคราว เมื่อน้ำกระเพื่อมนั้น ผู้ใดก้าวลงไปในน้ำก่อน ก็จะหายจากโรคที่เขาเป็นอยู่นั้น

⁵But there was a certain man there who had been suffering under his infirmity thirty and eight years.

⁵ที่นั่นมีชายคนหนึ่งป่วยมาสามสิบแปดปีแล้ว

⁶Jesus seeing this [man] lying [there], and knowing that he was [in that state] now a great length of time, says to him, Wouldest thou become well?

⁶เมื่อพระเยซูทอดพระเนตรคนนั้นนอนอยู่และทรงทราบว่า เขาป่วยอยู่อย่างนั้นนานแล้ว พระองค์ตรัสกับเขาว่า "เจ้าปรารถนาจะหายโรคหรือ"

⁷The infirm [man] answered him, Sir, I have not a man, in order, when the water has been troubled, to cast me into the pool; but while I am coming another descends before me.

⁷คนป่วยนั้นทูลตอบพระองค์ว่า "ท่านเจ้าข้า เมื่อน้ำกำลังกระเพื่อมนั้น ไม่มีผู้ใดที่จะเอาตัวข้าพเจ้าลงไปในสระ และเมื่อข้าพเจ้ากำลังไป คนอื่นก็ลงไปก่อนแล้ว"

⁸Jesus says to him, Arise, take up thy couch and walk.

⁸พระเยซูตรัสกับเขาว่า "จงลุกขึ้นยกแคร่ของเจ้าและเดินไปเถิด"

⁹And immediately the man became well, and took up his couch and walked: and on that day was sabbath.

⁹ในทันใดนั้นคนนั้นก็หายโรค และเขาก็ยกแคร่ของเขาเดินไป วันนั้นเป็นวันสะบาโต

¹⁰The Jews therefore said to the healed [man], It is sabbath, it is not permitted thee to take up thy couch.

¹⁰ดังนั้นพวกยิวจึงพูดกับชายที่หายโรคนั้นว่า "วันนี้เป็นวันสะบาโต ที่เจ้าแบกแคร่ไปนั้นก็ผิดพระราชบัญญัติ"

¹¹He answered them, He that made me well, *he* said to me, Take up thy couch and walk.

¹¹คนนั้นจึงตอบเขาเหล่านั้นว่า "ท่านที่รักษาข้าพเจ้าให้หายโรคได้สั่งข้าพเจ้าว่า `จงยกแคร่ของเจ้าแบกเดินไปเถิด'"

¹²They asked him [therefore], Who is the man who said to thee, Take up thy couch and walk?

¹²เขาเหล่านั้นถามคนนั้นว่า "คนที่สั่งเจ้าว่า `จงยกแคร่ของเจ้าแบกเดินไปเถิด' นั้น เป็นผู้ใด"

¹³But he that had been healed knew not who it was, for Jesus had slidden away, there being a crowd in the place.

¹³คนที่ได้รับการรักษาให้หายโรคนั้นไม่รู้ว่าเป็นผู้ใด เพราะพระเยซูเสด็จหลบไปแล้ว เนื่องจากขณะนั้นมีคนอยู่ที่นั่นเป็นอันมาก

¹⁴After these things Jesus finds him in the temple, and said to him, Behold, thou art become well: sin no more, that something worse do not happen to thee.

¹⁴ภายหลังพระเยซูได้ทรงพบคนนั้นในพระวิหารและตรัสกับเขาว่า "ดูเถิด เจ้าหายโรคแล้ว อย่าทำบาปอีก มิฉะนั้นเหตุร้ายกว่านั้นจะเกิดกับเจ้า"

¹⁵The man went away and told the Jews that it was Jesus who had made him well.

¹⁵ชายคนนั้นก็ได้ออกไปและบอกพวกยิวว่า ท่านที่ได้รักษาเขาให้หายโรคนั้นคือพระเยซู

¹⁶And for this the Jews persecuted Jesus [and sought to kill him], because he had done these things on sabbath.

¹⁶เหตุฉะนั้นพวกยิวจึงข่มเหงพระเยซู และแสวงหาโอกาสที่จะฆ่าพระองค์ เพราะพระองค์ทรงกระทำเช่นนั้นในวันสะบาโต

¹⁷But Jesus answered them, My Father worketh hitherto and I work.

¹⁷แต่พระเยซูตรัสตอบเขาว่า "พระบิดาของเราก็ยังทรงกระทำการอยู่จนถึงบัดนี้ และเราก็ทำด้วย"

¹⁸For this therefore the Jews sought the more to kill him, because he had not only violated the sabbath, but also said that God was his own Father, making himself equal with God.

¹⁸เหตุฉะนั้นพวกยิวยิ่งแสวงหาโอกาสที่จะฆ่าพระองค์ มิใช่เพราะพระองค์ล่วงกฎวันสะบาโตเท่านั้น แต่ยังได้เรียกพระเจ้าว่าเป็นบิดาของตนด้วย ซึ่งเป็นการกระทำตนเสมอกับพระเจ้า

¹⁹Jesus therefore answered and said to them, Verily, verily, I say to you, The Son can do nothing of himself save whatever he sees the Father doing: for whatever things *he* does, these things also the Son does in like manner.

¹⁹ดังนั้นพระเยซูตรัสกับเขาว่า "เราบอกความจริงแก่ท่านทั้งหลายว่า พระบุตรจะกระทำสิ่งใดตามใจไม่ได้ นอกจากที่ได้เห็นพระบิดาทรงกระทำ เพราะสิ่งใดที่พระบิดาทรงกระทำ สิ่งนั้นพระบุตรจึงทรงกระทำด้วย

²⁰For the Father loves the Son and shews him all things which he himself does; and he will shew him greater works than these, that ye may wonder.

²⁰เพราะว่าพระบิดาทรงรักพระบุตร และทรงสำแดงให้พระบุตรเห็นทุกสิ่งที่พระองค์ทรงกระทำ และพระองค์จะทรงสำแดงให้พระบุตรเห็นการที่ยิ่งใหญ่กว่านั้นอีก เพื่อท่านทั้งหลายจะประหลาดใจ

²¹For even as the Father raises the dead and quickens [them], thus the Son also quickens whom he will:

²¹เพราะพระบิดาทรงทำให้คนที่ตายแล้วฟื้นขึ้นมาและมีชีวิตฉันใด ถ้าพระบุตรปรารถนาจะกระทำให้ผู้ใดมีชีวิตก็จะกระทำเหมือนกันฉันนั้น

²²for neither does the Father judge any one, but has given all judgment to the Son;

²²เพราะว่าพระบิดามิได้ทรงพิพากษาผู้ใด แต่พระองค์ได้ทรงมอบการพิพากษาทั้งสิ้นไว้กับพระบุตร

²³that all may honour the Son, even as they honour the Father. He who honours not the Son, honours not the Father who has sent him.

²³เพื่อคนทั้งปวงจะได้ถวายเกียรติแด่พระบุตรเหมือนที่เขาถวายเกียรติแด่พระบิดา ผู้ใดไม่ถวายเกียรติแด่พระบุตร ผู้นั้นก็ไม่ถวายเกียรติแด่พระบิดาผู้ทรงใช้พระบุตรมา

²⁴Verily, verily, I say unto you, that he that hears my word, and believes him that has sent me, has life eternal, and does not come into judgment, but is passed out of death into life.

²⁴เราบอกความจริงแก่ท่านทั้งหลายว่า ถ้าผู้ใดฟังคำของเราและเชื่อในพระองค์ผู้ทรงใช้เรามา ผู้นั้นก็มีชีวิตนิรันดร์ และไม่ถูกพิพากษา แต่ได้ผ่านพ้นความตายไปสู่ชีวิตแล้ว

²⁵Verily, verily, I say unto you, that an hour is coming, and now is, when the dead shall hear the voice of the Son of God, and they that have heard shall live.

²⁵เราบอกความจริงแก่ท่านทั้งหลายว่า เวลาที่กำหนดนั้นใกล้จะถึงแล้ว และบัดนี้ก็ถึงแล้ว คือเมื่อผู้ที่ตายแล้วจะได้ยินพระสุรเสียงแห่งพระบุตรของพระเจ้า และบรรดาผู้ที่ได้ยินจะมีชีวิต

²⁶For even as the Father has life in himself, so he has given to the Son also to have life in himself,

²⁶เพราะว่าพระบิดาทรงมีชีวิตในพระองค์เองฉันใด พระองค์ก็ได้ทรงประทานให้พระบุตรมีชีวิตในพระองค์ฉันนั้น

²⁷and has given him authority to execute judgment [also], because he is Son of man.

²⁷และได้ทรงประทานให้พระบุตรมีสิทธิอำนาจที่จะพิพากษาด้วย เพราะพระองค์ทรงเป็นบุตรมนุษย์

²⁸Wonder not at this, for an hour is coming in which all who are in the tombs shall hear his voice,

²⁸อย่าประหลาดใจในข้อนี้เลย เพราะใกล้จะถึงเวลาที่บรรดาผู้ที่อยู่ในอุโมงค์ฝังศพจะได้ยินพระสุรเสียงของพระองค์

²⁹and shall go forth; those that have practised good, to resurrection of life, and those that have done evil, to resurrection of judgment.

²⁹และจะได้ออกมา บรรดาผู้ที่ได้ประพฤติดีก็ฟื้นขึ้นสู่ชีวิต บรรดาผู้ที่ได้ประพฤติชั่วก็จะฟื้นขึ้นสู่การพิพากษา

³⁰I cannot do anything of myself; as I hear, I judge, and my judgment is righteous, because I do not seek my will, but the will of him that has sent me.

³⁰เราจะทำสิ่งใดตามอำเภอใจไม่ได้ เราได้ยินอย่างไร เราก็พิพากษาอย่างนั้น และการพิพากษาของเราก็ยุติธรรม เพราะเรามิได้มุ่งที่จะทำตามใจของเราเอง แต่ตามพระประสงค์ของพระบิดาผู้ทรงใช้เรามา

³¹If I bear witness concerning myself, my witness is not true.

³¹ถ้าเราเป็นพยานถึงตัวเราเอง คำพยานของเราก็ไม่จริง

³²It is another who bears witness concerning me, and I know that the witness which he bears concerning me is true.

³²มีอีกผู้หนึ่งที่เป็นพยานถึงเรา และเรารู้ว่าคำพยานที่พระองค์ทรงเป็นพยานถึงเรานั้น เป็นความจริง

³³Ye have sent unto John, and he has borne witness to the truth.

³³ท่านทั้งหลายได้ใช้คนไปหายอห์น และยอห์นก็ได้เป็นพยานถึงความจริง

³⁴But I do not receive witness from man, but I say this that *ye* might be saved.

³⁴เรามิได้รับคำพยานจากมนุษย์ แต่ที่เรากล่าวสิ่งเหล่านี้ก็เพื่อให้ท่านทั้งหลายรอด

³⁵*He* was the burning and shining lamp, and ye were willing for a season to rejoice in his light.

³⁵ยอห์นเป็นโคมที่จุดสว่างไสว และท่านทั้งหลายก็พอใจที่จะชื่นชมยินดีชั่วขณะหนึ่งในความสว่างของยอห์นนั้น

³⁶But I have the witness [that is] greater than [that] of John; for the works which the Father has given me that I should complete them, the works themselves which I do, bear witness concerning me that the Father has sent me.

³⁶แต่คำพยานที่เรามีนั้นยิ่งใหญ่กว่าคำพยานของยอห์น เพราะว่างานที่พระบิดาทรงมอบให้เราทำให้สำเร็จ งานนี้แหละเรากำลังทำอยู่เป็นพยานถึงเราว่าพระบิดาทรงใช้เรามา

³⁷And the Father who has sent me himself has borne witness concerning me. Ye have neither heard his voice at any time, nor have seen his shape,

³⁷และพระบิดาผู้ทรงใช้เรามา พระองค์เองก็ได้ทรงเป็นพยานถึงเรา ท่านทั้งหลายไม่เคยได้ยินพระสุรเสียงของพระองค์ และไม่เคยเห็นรูปร่างของพระองค์

³⁸and ye have not his word abiding in you; for whom *he* hath sent, him ye do not believe.

³⁸และท่านทั้งหลายไม่มีพระดำรัสของพระองค์อยู่ในตัวท่าน เพราะว่าท่านทั้งหลายมิได้เชื่อในพระองค์ผู้ที่พระบิดาทรงใช้มานั้น

³⁹Ye search the scriptures, for ye think that in them ye have life eternal, and they it is which bear witness concerning me;

³⁹จงค้นดูในพระคัมภีร์ เพราะท่านคิดว่าในพระคัมภีร์นั้นมีชีวิตนิรันดร์ และพระคัมภีร์นั้นเป็นพยานถึงเรา

⁴⁰and ye will not come to me that ye might have life.

⁴⁰แต่ท่านทั้งหลายไม่ยอมมาหาเราเพื่อจะได้ชีวิต

⁴¹I do not receive glory from men,

⁴¹เราไม่รับเกียรติจากมนุษย์

⁴²but I know you, that ye have not the love of God in you.

⁴²แต่เรารู้ว่าท่านไม่มีความรักพระเจ้าในตัวท่าน

⁴³I am come in my Father's name, and ye receive me not; if another come in his own name, him ye will receive.

⁴³เราได้มาในพระนามพระบิดาของเรา และท่านทั้งหลายมิได้รับเรา ถ้าผู้อื่นจะมาในนามของเขาเอง ท่านทั้งหลายก็จะรับผู้นั้น

⁴⁴How can ye believe, who receive glory one of another, and seek not the glory which [comes] from God alone?

⁴⁴ผู้ที่ได้รับยศศักดิ์จากกันเอง และมิได้แสวงหายศศักดิ์ซึ่งมาจากพระเจ้าเท่านั้น ท่านจะเชื่อผู้นั้นได้อย่างไร

⁴⁵Think not that I will accuse you to the Father: there is [one] who accuses you, Moses, on whom ye trust;

⁴⁵อย่าคิดว่าเราจะฟ้องท่านทั้งหลายต่อพระบิดา มีผู้ฟ้องท่านแล้ว คือโมเสส ผู้ซึ่งท่านทั้งหลายหวังใจอยู่

⁴⁶for if ye had believed Moses, ye would have believed me, for he wrote of me.

⁴⁶ถ้าท่านทั้งหลายเชื่อโมเสส ท่านทั้งหลายก็จะเชื่อเรา เพราะโมเสสได้เขียนกล่าวถึงเรา

⁴⁷But if ye do not believe his writings, how shall ye believe my words?

⁴⁷แต่ถ้าท่านทั้งหลายไม่เชื่อเรื่องที่โมเสสเขียนแล้ว ท่านจะเชื่อถ้อยคำของเราอย่างไรได้"
