¹Kaj Abija ekdormis kun siaj patroj, kaj oni enterigis lin en la urbo de David. Kaj anstataux li ekregxis lia filo Asa. En lia tempo la lando estis trankvila dum dek jaroj.

¹And Abijah slept with his fathers, and they buried him in the city of David. And Asa his son reigned in his stead. In his days the land was quiet ten years.

²Asa agadis bone kaj juste antaux la Eternulo, sia Dio.

²And Asa did what was good and right in the sight of Jehovah his God;

³Li forigis la altarojn de fremdaj dioj kaj la altajxojn, li disbatis la statuojn, kaj dehakis la sanktajn stangojn.

³and he took away the altars of the strange [gods] and the high places, and broke the columns, and cut down the Asherahs;

⁴Kaj li ordonis al la Judoj turni sin al la Eternulo, Dio de iliaj patroj, por plenumi la instruon kaj la ordonojn.

⁴and commanded Judah to seek Jehovah the God of their fathers, and to practise the law and the commandment.

⁵Li forigis el cxiuj urboj de Judujo la altajxojn kaj la kolonojn de la suno. Kaj la regno estis trankvila sub li.

⁵And he removed out of all the cities of Judah the high places and the sun-images; and the kingdom was quiet before him.

⁶Li konstruis urbojn fortikigitajn en Judujo; la lando estis trankvila, kaj li ne havis militon en tiuj jaroj, cxar la Eternulo donis al li ripozon.

⁶And he built fortified cities in Judah, for the land had rest, and he had no war in those years; because Jehovah had given him rest.

⁷Kaj li diris al la Judoj:Ni prikonstruu cxi tiujn urbojn, ni cxirkauxigu ilin per muregoj kaj turoj, pordoj, kaj rigliloj. La lando estas ankoraux nia, cxar ni turnis nin al la Eternulo, nia Dio; ni turnis nin, kaj Li donis al ni trankvilecon cxirkauxe. Kaj ili konstruis, kaj la afero iris sukcese.

⁷And he said to Judah, Let us build these cities, and surround them with walls and towers, gates and bars, while the land is yet before us; for we have sought Jehovah our God; we have sought him, and he has given us rest on every side. And they built and prospered.

⁸Kaj Asa havis militistaron:da viroj armitaj per sxildo kaj lanco el la Jehudaidoj tricent mil, kaj el la Benjamenidoj da viroj portantaj mansxildon kaj pafantaj per pafarko estis ducent okdek mil; cxiuj ili estis bravaj militistoj.

⁸And Asa had an army that bore targets and spears: out of Judah three hundred thousand; and out of Benjamin, that bore shields and drew the bow, two hundred and eighty thousand: all these, mighty men of valour.

⁹Eliris kontraux ilin Zerahx, la Etiopo, kun militistaro de unu miliono kaj kun tricent cxaroj, kaj li venis gxis Maresxa.

⁹And Zerah the Ethiopian came out against him with a host of a thousand thousand, and three hundred chariots, and he came to Mareshah.

¹⁰Kaj eliris Asa renkonte al li, kaj ili arangxigxis al batalo en la valo Cefata, apud Maresxa.

¹⁰And Asa went out against him, and they set the battle in array in the valley of Zephathah near Mareshah.

¹¹Kaj Asa ekvokis al la Eternulo, sia Dio, kaj diris:Ho Eternulo, por Vi ne estas diferenco helpi al grandnombrulo aux al senfortulo; helpu do al ni, ho Eternulo, nia Dio, cxar sur Vi ni nin apogas kaj en Via nomo ni venis kontraux cxi tiun grandan anaron. Ho Eternulo, Vi estas nia Dio; kontraux Vi neniu homo montrigxu forta.

¹¹And Asa cried unto Jehovah his God, and said, Jehovah, it maketh no difference to thee to help, whether there be much or no power: help us, O Jehovah our God, for we rely on thee, and in thy name have we come against this multitude. Jehovah, thou art our God; let not man prevail against thee.

¹²Kaj la Eternulo frapis la Etiopojn antaux Asa kaj antaux la Judoj, kaj la Etiopoj forkuris.

¹²And Jehovah smote the Ethiopians before Asa and before Judah; and the Ethiopians fled.

¹³Kaj Asa, kaj la popolo, kiu estis kun li, persekutis ilin gxis Gerar; kaj la Etiopoj falis tiel, ke neniu el ili restis vivanta; cxar ili estis frakasitaj antaux la Eternulo kaj antaux Lia militistaro. Kaj ili forportis tre multe da militakirajxo.

¹³And Asa and the people that were with him pursued them to Gerar; and the Ethiopians were overthrown, that none of them was left alive; for they were crushed before Jehovah and before his army. And they carried away very much spoil.

¹⁴Kaj ili venkobatis cxiujn urbojn cxirkauxe de Gerar, cxar sur ilin falis teruro de la Eternulo; kaj ili prirabis cxiujn urbojn, cxar en ili trovigxis multe da rabeblajxo.

¹⁴And they smote all the cities round about Gerar, for the terror of Jehovah came upon them; and they spoiled all the cities, for there was very much spoil in them.

¹⁵Ankaux ili disbatis la tendojn de la brutoj, kaptis multe da sxafoj kaj da kameloj, kaj revenis en Jerusalemon.

¹⁵They smote also the tents of cattle, and carried away sheep and camels in abundance, and returned to Jerusalem.
