¹Kaj mi returnigxis, kaj mi vidis cxiujn premojn, kiuj estas farataj sub la suno:kaj jen estas larmoj de prematoj, kaj ne ekzistas por ili konsolanto; kaj perforteco de la mano de iliaj premantoj, kaj ne ekzistas por ili konsolanto.

¹And I returned and saw all the oppressions that are done under the sun: and behold, the tears of the oppressed, and they had no comforter; and on the side of their oppressors was power, and they had no comforter.

²Kaj mi trovis, ke la mortintoj, kiuj jam antaux longe mortis, estas pli felicxaj ol la vivantoj, kiuj vivas gxis nun;

²Then I praised the dead who are already dead more than the living who are yet alive;

³kaj pli felicxa ol ili ambaux estas tiu, kiu gxis nun ne ekzistis, kiu ne vidis la malbonajn farojn, kiuj estas farataj sub la suno.

³and more fortunate than both is he who hath not yet been, who hath not seen the evil work that is done under the sun.

⁴Mi vidis ankaux, ke cxia laboro kaj cxia lerteco en la faroj estas nur konkurado de unu kontraux alia; kaj ankaux cxi tio estas vantajxo kaj ventajxo.

⁴And I saw all labour, and all success of work, that it is man's jealousy of his neighbour. This also is vanity and pursuit of the wind.

⁵Malsagxulo kunmetas siajn manojn, kaj formangxas sian korpon.

⁵The fool foldeth his hands together, and eateth his own flesh.

⁶Pli bona estas plenmano da trankvilanimeco, ol ambauxmano da penado kaj ventajxo.

⁶Better is a handful with quietness, than both hands full with labour and pursuit of the wind.

⁷Kaj denove mi turnigxis, kaj vidis vantajxon sub la suno:

⁷And I returned and saw vanity under the sun.

⁸jen estas solulo, kaj neniun alian li havas; nek filon nek fraton li havas; kaj tamen ne havas finon lia laborado, kaj lia okulo ne povas satigxi de ricxeco; por kiu do mi laboras kaj senigas mian animon de gxuado? CXi tio ankaux estas vantajxo kaj malbona afero.

⁸There is one [alone] and without a second; also he hath neither son nor brother: yet is there no end of all his labour, neither is his eye satisfied with riches, and [he saith not], For whom then am I labouring, and depriving my soul of good? This also is vanity and a grievous occupation.

⁹Pli bone estas al du ol al unu, cxar ili havas bonan rekompencon por sia laborado.

⁹Two are better than one; because they have a good reward for their labour.

¹⁰CXar se ili falos, unu levos la alian; sed ve al solulo, se li falos, kaj se ne estas alia, kiu lin levus.

¹⁰For if they fall, the one will lift up his fellow; but woe to him that is alone when he falleth, and who hath not another to lift him up!

¹¹Ankaux se du kusxigxas, estas al ili varme; sed unu-kiel li varmigxos?

¹¹Again, if two lie together, then they have warmth; but how can one alone be warm?

¹²Kaj se iu montros sin pli forta kontraux unu, tiam ambaux kontrauxstaros lin; ecx fadeno triopigita ne baldaux dissxirigxos.

¹²And if a [man] overpower the one, the two shall withstand him; and a threefold cord is not quickly broken.

¹³Pli bona estas knabo malricxa sed sagxa, ol regxo maljuna sed malsagxa, kiu jam ne povas akiri scion.

¹³Better is a poor but wise youth than an old and foolish king, who knoweth no more how to be admonished.

¹⁴Iu el malliberejo eliris, kaj farigxis regxo; alia por regxeco naskigxis, kaj tamen estas malricxa.

¹⁴For out of the prison-house he came forth to reign, although he was born poor in his kingdom.

¹⁵Mi vidis, ke cxiu vivanto iras sub la suno kun la junulo:gxi estas la alia, kiu okupos lian lokon.

¹⁵I saw all the living that walk under the sun, with the child, the second, that should stand up in his stead.

¹⁶Senfina estas la popolo, antaux kiu li estis, kaj tamen la posteuloj ne gxojos pri li; ankaux cxi tio estas vantajxo kaj ventajxo.

¹⁶[There is] no end of all the people, of all that stood before them; those however that come after shall not rejoice in him. Surely this also is vanity and a striving after the wind.
