¹Gardu vian piedon, kiam vi iros en la domon de Dio, kaj estu preta pli por auxskultado, ol por oferdonado de malsagxuloj; cxar ili ne scias, ke ili agas malbone.

¹Keep thy foot when thou goest to the house of God, and draw near to hear, rather than to give the sacrifice of fools: for they know not that they do evil.

²Ne rapidu kun via busxo, kaj via koro ne rapidu elparoli vorton antaux Dio, cxar Dio estas en la cxielo, kaj vi estas sur la tero; tial malmultaj estu viaj vortoj.

²Be not rash with thy mouth, and let not thy heart be hasty to utter anything before God: for God is in the heavens, and thou upon earth; therefore let thy words be few.

³CXar songxo prezentigxas per multe da agado, kaj parolo de malsagxulo konsistas el multe da vortoj.

³For a dream cometh through the multitude of business, and a fool's voice through a multitude of words.

⁴Kiam vi faros promeson al Dio, ne prokrastu gxin plenumi; cxar malagrablaj al Li estas malsagxuloj:kion vi promesis, tion plenumu.

⁴When thou vowest a vow unto God, defer not to pay it; for he hath no pleasure in fools: pay that which thou hast vowed.

⁵Pli bone estas, ke vi ne faru promeson, ol fari promeson kaj ne plenumi.

⁵Better is it that thou shouldest not vow, than that thou shouldest vow and not pay.

⁶Ne permesu al via busxo pekigi vian korpon, kaj ne diru al la sendito de Dio, ke gxi estas eraro; kial fari, ke Dio koleru pro via parolo, kaj ke Li detruu la faron de viaj manoj?

⁶Suffer not thy mouth to cause thy flesh to sin; neither say thou before the angel, that it was an inadvertence. Wherefore should God be wroth at thy voice, and destroy the work of thy hands?

⁷CXe multo da songxoj kaj vantajxoj estas ankaux multe da vortoj; sed vi timu Dion.

⁷For in the multitude of dreams are vanities; so with many words: but fear God.

⁸Se premadon de malricxulo kaj rompadon de justeco kaj honesteco vi vidas en lando, ne miru; cxar pli alta kontrolas pli altan, kaj plej altaj ilin kontrolas.

⁸If thou seest the oppression of the poor, and violent perverting of judgment and justice in a province, marvel not at the matter; for a higher than the high is watching, and there are higher than they.

⁹Kaj superecon en cxio havas tiu lando, en kiu la regxo servas al la tero.

⁹Moreover the earth is every way profitable: the king [himself] is dependent upon the field.

¹⁰Kiu amas monon, tiu ne satigxos per mono; kaj kiu amas ricxecon, al tiu gxi ne donos utilon:ankaux cxi tio estas vantajxo.

¹⁰He that loveth silver shall not be satisfied with silver, nor he that loveth abundance with increase. This also is vanity.

¹¹Ju pli estas da havo, des pli multaj estas gxiaj konsumantoj; kaj kian profiton havas gxia mastro, krom vidi gxin per siaj okuloj?

¹¹When goods increase, they are increased that eat them; and what profit is there to the owner thereof, except the beholding [of them] with his eyes?

¹²Dolcxa estas la dormo de laboranto, cxu li mangxas malmulte aux multe; sed trosateco ne lasas la ricxulon dormi.

¹²The sleep of the labourer is sweet, whether he have eaten little or much; but the fulness of the rich doth not suffer him to sleep.

¹³Turmentan malbonon mi vidis sub la suno:ricxecon konservatan por la malutilo de gxia propra mastro.

¹³There is a grievous evil that I have seen under the sun: riches kept for the owners thereof to their hurt;

¹⁴Kaj pereas cxi tiu ricxeco en malfavoraj cirkonstancoj; naskigxas filo, kaj li nenion havas en la mano.

¹⁴or those riches perish by some evil circumstance, and if he have begotten a son, there is nothing in his hand.

¹⁵Kiel li eliris el la ventro de sia patrino, tiel nuda li foriras, kiel li venis; kaj nenion li elportas el sia laboro, kion li povus porti en la mano.

¹⁵As he came forth from his mother's womb, naked shall he go away again as he came, and shall take nothing of his labour, which he may carry away in his hand.

¹⁶Kaj cxi tio estas turmenta doloro, ke kiel li venis, tiel li foriras; kian do profiton li havas de tio, ke li laboras por la vento?

¹⁶And this also is a grievous evil, that in all points as he came so doth he go away, and what profit hath he, in having laboured for the wind?

¹⁷Kaj cxiujn siajn tagojn li konsumis en mallumo, en multe da ekscitigxo, en malsano kaj malagrablajxoj!

¹⁷All his days also he eateth in darkness, and hath much vexation, and sickness, and irritation.

¹⁸Jen, kion mi vidis:ke estas bone kaj bele mangxi kaj trinki kaj gxui plezurojn de cxiuj siaj laboroj, kiujn homo laboras sub la suno dum la tagoj de sia vivo, kiujn donis al li Dio; cxar tio estas lia apartenajxo.

¹⁸Behold what I have seen good and comely: [it is] to eat and to drink, and to enjoy good in all his labour wherewith [man] laboureth under the sun, all the days of his life which God hath given him: for that is his portion.

¹⁹Kaj se al iu homo Dio donis ricxecon kaj havon, kaj donis al li la povon konsumi ilin kaj preni sian parton kaj gxui plezuron de siaj laboroj, cxi tio estas dono de Dio.

¹⁹Every man also to whom God hath given riches and wealth, and power to eat thereof, and to take his portion and to rejoice in his labour: that is a gift of God.

²⁰CXar ne longe li memoros la tagojn de sia vivo; Dio donas al li gxojon de lia koro.

²⁰For he will not much remember the days of his life, because God answereth [him] with the joy of his heart.
