¹And this is what the children of Israel inherited in the land of Canaan, which Eleazar the priest, and Joshua the son of Nun, and the chief fathers of the tribes of the children of Israel, allotted for inheritance to them:

²their inheritance was by lot, as Jehovah had commanded by Moses, for the nine tribes, and the half tribe.

³CXar Moseo donis al du triboj kaj duono posedajxon transe de Jordan; kaj al la Levidoj li ne donis posedajxon inter ili;

³For Moses had given the inheritance of the two tribes and the half tribe beyond the Jordan, but to the Levites he had given no inheritance among them.

⁴cxar la idoj de Jozef estis du triboj, Manase kaj Efraim; kaj al la Levidoj oni ne donis parton en la lando, sed nur urbojn por logxado, kune kun iliaj antauxurboj por iliaj brutoj kaj por ilia havo.

⁴For the children of Joseph were two tribes, Manasseh and Ephraim; and they gave no part to the Levites in the land, save cities to dwell in, and their suburbs for their cattle and for their substance.

⁵Kiel la Eternulo ordonis al Moseo, tiel faris la Izraelidoj kaj dividis la teron.

⁵As Jehovah had commanded Moses, so the children of Israel did, and they divided the land.

⁶Kaj aliris la idoj de Jehuda al Josuo en Gilgal, kaj diris al li Kaleb, filo de Jefune, Kenizido:Vi scias tion, kion la Eternulo diris al Moseo, la homo de Dio, pri mi kaj pri vi en Kadesx-Barnea.

⁶Then the children of Judah came near to Joshua in Gilgal, and Caleb the son of Jephunneh the Kenizzite said to him, Thou knowest the word that Jehovah spoke to Moses the man of God, concerning me and thee, in Kadesh-barnea.

⁷Mi havis la agxon de kvardek jaroj, kiam Moseo, servanto de la Eternulo, sendis min el Kadesx-Barnea, por esplorrigardi la landon; kaj mi alportis al li raporton laux mia konscienco.

⁷Forty years old was I when Moses the servant of Jehovah sent me from Kadesh-barnea to search out the land; and I brought him word again as it was in my heart.

⁸Kaj miaj fratoj, kiuj iris kun mi, malkuragxigis la koron de la popolo; sed mi obeis la Eternulon, mian Dion.

⁸And my brethren that had gone up with me made the heart of the people melt; but I wholly followed Jehovah my God.

⁹Kaj Moseo jxuris en tiu tago, dirante:La tero, sur kiu pasxis via piedo, estos posedajxo por vi kaj por viaj filoj eterne, cxar vi obeis la Eternulon, mian Dion.

⁹And Moses swore on that day, saying, The land whereon thy feet have trodden shall assuredly be thine inheritance, and thy children's for ever! for thou hast wholly followed Jehovah my God.

¹⁰Kaj nun jen la Eternulo konservis min viva, kiel Li diris. Nun pasis kvardek kvin jaroj de tiu tempo, kiam la Eternulo diris tion al Moseo, dum Izrael iradis en la dezerto; kaj nun jen mi havas la agxon de okdek kvin jaroj.

¹⁰And now behold, Jehovah has kept me alive, as he said, these forty-five years, since Jehovah spoke this word to Moses, when Israel wandered in the wilderness; and now behold, I am this day eighty-five years old.

¹¹Ankoraux hodiaux mi estas tiel forta, kiel en la tago, kiam Moseo min sendis; kiom da forto mi tiam havis, tiom mi nun havas por la milito, por eliri kaj eniri.

¹¹I am still this day strong, as in the day that Moses sent me: as my strength was then, even so is my strength now, for war, both to go out and to come in.

¹²Donu do al mi nun cxi tiun monton, pri kiu la Eternulo parolis en tiu tago; cxar vi auxdis en tiu tago, ke tie estas Anakidoj kaj grandaj kaj fortikigitaj urboj; eble la Eternulo estos kun mi kaj mi forpelos ilin, kiel diris la Eternulo.

¹²And now give me this mountain, of which Jehovah spoke in that day; for thou heardest in that day that Anakim are there, and great fortified cities. If so be Jehovah shall be with me, then I shall dispossess them, as Jehovah said.

¹³Tiam Josuo benis lin, kaj donis HXebronon al Kaleb, filo de Jefune, kiel posedajxon.

¹³And Joshua blessed him, and gave Hebron to Caleb the son of Jephunneh for an inheritance.

¹⁴Hebron therefore became the inheritance of Caleb the son of Jephunneh the Kenizzite to this day, because he wholly followed Jehovah the God of Israel.

¹⁵Kaj la nomo de HXebron antauxe estis urbo de Arba, granda homo inter la Anakidoj. Kaj la tero trankviligxis de milito.

¹⁵Now the name of Hebron before was Kirjath-Arba; the great man among the Anakim. And the land rested from war.
