1Kaj la Eternulo ekparolis al Josuo, dirante:
1And Jehovah spoke to Joshua, saying,
2Diru al la Izraelidoj jene:Arangxu al vi la urbojn de rifugxo, pri kiuj Mi parolis al vi per Moseo,
2Speak to the children of Israel, saying, Appoint for yourselves the cities of refuge, whereof I spoke unto you through Moses,
3por ke tien povu forkuri mortiginto, kiu mortigis homon per eraro kaj ne sciante; kaj ili estu cxe vi rifugxejo kontraux vengxanto pro sango.
3that the slayer who unwittingly without intent smiteth any one mortally may flee thither: and they shall be your refuge from the avenger of blood.
4Kaj li forkuros al unu el tiuj urboj, kaj starigxos antaux la pordego de la urbo, kaj rakontos al la plejagxuloj de tiu urbo sian aferon; kaj ili enprenos lin en la urbon al si, kaj donos al li lokon, por ke li logxu cxe ili.
4And he shall flee unto one of those cities and stand at the entrance of the city-gate, and shall declare his matter in the ears of the elders of that city; and they shall take him into the city unto them, and give him a place, that he may dwell among them.
5Kaj kiam la sangovengxanto postkuros lin, ili ne transdonu la mortiginton en liajn manojn; cxar senintence li mortigis sian proksimulon, kaj ne estis malamiko de li de antauxe.
5And if the avenger of blood pursue after him, they shall not deliver the slayer up into his hand; for he smote his neighbour unwittingly, and hated him not previously.
6Kaj li logxos en tiu urbo, gxis li starigxos antaux la komunumo por jugxo, gxis la morto de la granda pastro, kiu estos en tiu tempo. Tiam la mortiginto reiru, kaj venu en sian urbon kaj al sia domo, en la urbon, el kiu li forkuris.
6And he shall dwell in that city, until he have stood before the assembly in judgment, until the death of the high-priest that shall be in those days; then shall the slayer return, and come unto his own city, and unto his own house, unto the city from whence he fled.
7Kaj ili konsekris la urbon Kedesx en Galileo, sur la monto de Naftali, kaj SXehxem, sur la monto de Efraim, kaj Kirjat-Arba (tio estas HXebron), sur la monto de Jehuda.
7And they hallowed Kedesh in Galilee in the hill-country of Naphtali, and Shechem in the hill-country of Ephraim, and Kirjath-Arba, that is, Hebron, in the hill-country of Judah.
8Kaj transe de Jordan, oriente de Jerihxo, ili donis:Becer, en la dezerto, sur la ebenajxo, de la tribo de Ruben, kaj Ramot en Gilead, de la tribo de Gad, kaj Golan en Basxan, de la tribo de Manase.
8And beyond the Jordan from Jericho eastward, they assigned Bezer in the wilderness, in the plateau, out of the tribe of Reuben, and Ramoth in Gilead out of the tribe of Gad, and Golan in Bashan of the tribe of Manasseh.
9Tiuj urboj estis destinitaj por cxiuj Izraelidoj, kaj por la fremduloj, kiuj logxas inter ili, por ke tien povu forkuri cxiu, kiu mortigis homon per eraro, kaj por ke li ne mortu de la mano de sangovengxanto, gxis li starigxos antaux la komunumo.
9These were the cities appointed for all the children of Israel, and for the stranger that sojourneth among them, that whosoever smiteth any one mortally without intent might flee thither, and not die by the hand of the avenger of blood, until he stood before the assembly.
