¹The words of Agur the son of Jakeh; the prophecy uttered by the man unto Ithiel, [even] unto Ithiel and Ucal:

²Mi estas la plej malklera homo, Kaj homan prudenton mi ne posedas.

²Truly *I* am more stupid than any one; and I have not a man's intelligence.

³Kaj mi ne lernis sagxon, Kaj pri la Sanktulo mi ne havas ekkonon.

³I have neither learned wisdom, nor have I the knowledge of the Holy.

⁴Kiu levigxis en la cxielon, kaj mallevigxis? Kiu kolektis la venton en siajn mankavojn? Kiu ligis la akvon en la veston? Kiu arangxis cxiujn limojn de la tero? Kia estas lia nomo? kaj kia estas la nomo de lia filo? CXu vi scias?

⁴Who hath ascended up into the heavens, and descended? Who hath gathered the wind in his fists? Who hath bound the waters in a mantle? Who hath established all the ends of the earth? What is his name, and what is his son's name, if thou knowest?

⁵CXiu diro de Dio estas pura; Li estas sxildo por tiuj, kiuj Lin fidas.

⁵Every word of +God is pure: he is a shield unto them that put their trust in him.

⁶Ne aldonu al Liaj vortoj, Por ke Li ne punu vin, kaj por ke vi ne aperu mensoganto.

⁶Add thou not unto his words, lest he reprove thee, and thou be found a liar.

⁷Du aferojn mi petis de Vi; Ne rifuzu al mi, antaux ol mi mortos:

⁷Two things do I ask of thee; deny me [them] not before I die:

⁸Falsajxon kaj mensogajxon forigu de mi; Malricxecon kaj ricxecon ne donu al mi; Nutru min per tiom da pano, kiom mi bezonas.

⁸Remove far from me vanity and lies; give me neither poverty nor riches; feed me with the bread of my daily need:

⁹CXar alie mi eble trosatigxus kaj neus, kaj dirus:Kiu estas la Eternulo? Aux eble mi malricxigxus kaj sxtelus, Kaj malbonuzus la nomon de mia Dio.

⁹lest I be full and deny [thee], and say, Who is Jehovah? or lest I be poor and steal, and outrage the name of my God.

¹⁰Ne kalumniu sklavon antaux lia sinjoro, Por ke li ne malbenu vin kaj vi ne farigxu kulpulo.

¹⁰Speak not too much about a servant to his master, lest he curse thee, and thou be held guilty.

¹¹Estas generacio, kiu malbenas sian patron Kaj ne benas sian patrinon;

¹¹There is a generation that curseth their father, and doth not bless their mother;

¹²Generacio, kiu estas pura en siaj okuloj Kaj tamen ne lavigxis de siaj malpurajxoj;

¹²there is a generation that are pure in their own eyes, yet are not washed from their filthiness;

¹³Generacio, kiu tiel alte tenas siajn okulojn Kaj tiel levas siajn palpebrojn;

¹³there is a generation, -- how lofty are their eyes, how their eyelids are lifted up!

¹⁴Generacio, kies dentoj estas glavoj kaj kies makzeloj estas trancxiloj, Por formangxi la malricxulojn de la tero kaj la mizerulojn inter la homoj.

¹⁴-- a generation whose teeth are swords, and their jaw-teeth knives, to devour the afflicted from off the earth, and the needy from [among] men.

¹⁵Hirudo havas du filinojn, kiuj krias:Donu, donu; Ili tri neniam satigxas. Kvar objektoj ne diras:Suficxe:

¹⁵The leech hath two daughters: Give, give. There are three [things] never satisfied; four which say not, It is enough:

¹⁶SXeol; senfrukta ventro; la tero ne satigxas de akvo; kaj la fajro ne diras:Suficxe.

¹⁶-- Sheol, and the barren womb; the earth which is not filled with water, and the fire which saith not, It is enough.

¹⁷Okulon, kiu mokas la patron Kaj malsxatas obeadon al la patrino, Elpikos korvoj cxe la rivero kaj formangxos aglidoj.

¹⁷The eye that mocketh at a father, and despiseth to obey a mother, the ravens of the valley shall pick it out, and the young eagles shall eat it.

¹⁸Tri aferoj estas nekompreneblaj por mi, Kaj kvaran mi ne scias:

¹⁸There are three [things] too wonderful for me, and four that I know not:

¹⁹La vojon de aglo en la aero; La vojon de serpento sur roko; La vojon de sxipo meze de la maro; Kaj la vojon de viro cxe virgulino.

¹⁹The way of an eagle in the heavens, the way of a serpent upon a rock, the way of a ship in the midst of the sea, and the way of a man with a maid.

²⁰Tia estas la vojo de virino adultanta: SXi mangxas, visxas la busxon, Kaj diras:Mi faris nenian pekon.

²⁰Such is the way of an adulterous woman: she eateth, and wipeth her mouth, and saith, I have done no wickedness.

²¹Sub tri objektoj tremas la tero, Kaj kvar gxi ne povas porti:

²¹Under three [things] the earth is disquieted, and under four it cannot bear up:

²²Sklavon, kiam li farigxis regxo; Malsagxulon, kiam li tro satigxis de pano;

²²Under a servant when he reigneth, and a churl when he is filled with meat;

²³Malamatan virinon, kiam sxi edzinigxis, Kaj sklavinon, kiam sxi elpelis sian sinjorinon.

²³under an odious [woman] when she is married, and a handmaid when she is heir to her mistress.

²⁴Kvar estas malgranduloj sur la tero, Kaj tamen ili estas tre sagxaj:

²⁴There are four [things] little upon the earth, and they are exceeding wise:

²⁵La formikoj, popolo ne forta, Tamen ili en somero pretigas al si mangxajxon;

²⁵The ants, a people not strong, yet they provide their food in the summer;

²⁶La hirakoj, popolo senforta, Tamen ili faras siajn domojn en la roko;

²⁶the rock-badgers are but a feeble folk, yet they make their house in the cliff;

²⁷La akridoj ne havas regxon, Kaj tamen ili cxiuj eliras en vicoj;

²⁷the locusts have no king, yet they go forth all of them by bands;

²⁸La lacerto krocxigxas per siaj manoj, Tamen gxi estas en regxaj palacoj.

²⁸thou takest hold of the lizard with the hands, yet is she in kings' palaces.

²⁹Ekzistas tri, kiuj bone iras, Kaj kvar, kiuj marsxas bele:

²⁹There are three [things] which have a stately step, and four are comely in going:

³⁰La leono, plej forta el la bestoj, Cedas al neniu;

³⁰The lion, mighty among beasts, which turneth not away for any;

³¹Cervo kun bonaj lumboj; virkapro; Kaj regxo, kiun neniu povas kontrauxstari.

³¹a [horse] girt in the loins; or the he-goat; and a king, against whom none can rise up.

³²Se vi agis malsagxe pro via fiereco, Kaj se vi intencis malbonon, Tiam metu la manon sur la busxon.

³²If thou hast done foolishly in lifting up thyself, or if thou hast thought evil, [lay] the hand upon thy mouth.

³³CXar batado de lakto produktas buteron, Ekbato de nazo aperigas sangon, Kaj incitado de kolero kauxzas malpacon.

³³For the pressing of milk bringeth forth butter, and the pressing of the nose bringeth forth blood; and the pressing of anger bringeth forth strife.
