¹Post tio estis festo de la Judoj, kaj Jesuo supreniris al Jerusalem.

¹After these things, there was a feast of the Jews, and Jesus went up to Jerusalem.

²En Jerusalem apud la Pordego de SXafoj estas lageto, nomata en la Hebrea lingvo Betesda, havanta kvin portikojn.

²Now in Jerusalem by the sheep gate, there is a pool, which is called in Hebrew, “Bethesda,” having five porches.

³En tiuj kusxis amaso da malsanuloj, blinduloj, lamuloj, velkintoj, kiuj atendis la ekmovon de la akvo;

³In these lay a great multitude of those who were sick, blind, lame, or paralyzed, waiting for the moving of the water;

⁴cxar angxelo de la Eternulo malsupreniris iafoje en la lageton kaj movis la akvon; kiu ajn do unua post la movado de la akvo enpasxis, tiu resanigxis, tute egale, de kia malsano li suferis.

⁴for an angel went down at certain times into the pool, and stirred up the water. Whoever stepped in first after the stirring of the water was made whole of whatever disease he had.

⁵Kaj tie estis unu viro, kiu estis tridek ok jarojn en sia malforteco.

⁵A certain man was there, who had been sick for thirty-eight years.

⁶Kiam Jesuo vidis lin kusxantan, kaj sciis, ke li jam de longe malsanas, li diris al li:CXu vi volas farigxi sana?

⁶When Jesus saw him lying there, and knew that he had been sick for a long time, he asked him, “Do you want to be made well?”

⁷La malsanulo respondis:Sinjoro, mi ne havas iun por enjxeti min en la lageton, kiam la akvo movigxis; sed dum mi venas, alia pasxas malsupren antaux mi.

⁷The sick man answered him, “Sir, I have no one to put me into the pool when the water is stirred up, but while I’m coming, another steps down before me.”

⁸Jesuo diris al li:Levigxu, prenu vian liton, kaj iru.

⁸Jesus said to him, “Arise, take up your mat, and walk.”

⁹Kaj la viro tuj farigxis sana, kaj prenis sian liton, kaj iris. Kaj estis la sabato en tiu tago.

⁹Immediately, the man was made well, and took up his mat and walked. Now it was the Sabbath on that day.

¹⁰La Judoj do diris al la resanigito:Estas la sabato, kaj al vi ne konvenas porti vian liton.

¹⁰So the Jews said to him who was cured, “It is the Sabbath. It is not lawful for you to carry the mat.”

¹¹Li respondis:Tiu, kiu min sanigis, diris al mi:Prenu vian liton, kaj iru.

¹¹He answered them, “He who made me well, the same said to me, ‘Take up your mat, and walk.’ ”

¹²Ili demandis lin:Kiu estas tiu homo, kiu diris al vi:Prenu kaj iru?

¹²Then they asked him, “Who is the man who said to you, ‘Take up your mat, and walk’ ?”

¹³Sed la resanigito ne sciis, kiu tiu estas; cxar Jesuo jam formovigxis pro la tiea homamaso.

¹³But he who was healed didn’t know who it was, for Jesus had withdrawn, a crowd being in the place.

¹⁴Poste Jesuo trovis lin en la templo, kaj diris al li:Jen vi farigxis sana; ne plu peku, por ke io pli malbona ne okazu al vi.

¹⁴Afterward Jesus found him in the temple, and said to him, “Behold, you are made well. Sin no more, so that nothing worse happens to you.”

¹⁵La viro foriris, kaj diris al la Judoj, ke Jesuo estas tiu, kiu lin sanigis.

¹⁵The man went away, and told the Jews that it was Jesus who had made him well.

¹⁶Kaj la Judoj persekutis Jesuon pro tio, ke li tion faris en sabato.

¹⁶For this cause the Jews persecuted Jesus, and sought to kill him, because he did these things on the Sabbath.

¹⁷Sed Jesuo respondis al ili:Mia Patro gxis nun laboras, kaj mi laboras.

¹⁷But Jesus answered them, “My Father is still working, so I am working, too.”

¹⁸Pro tio do la Judoj des pli celis mortigi lin, pro tio, ke li ne nur malobservis la sabaton, sed ankaux diris, ke Dio estas lia propra Patro, kaj pretendis esti egala al Dio.

¹⁸For this cause therefore the Jews sought all the more to kill him, because he not only broke the Sabbath, but also called God his own Father, making himself equal with God.

¹⁹Jesuo do respondis kaj diris al ili: Vere, vere, mi diras al vi:La Filo ne povas per si mem fari ion, krom tio, kion li vidas la Patron faranta; cxar kion ajn Li faras, tion la Filo tiel same ankaux faras.

¹⁹Jesus therefore answered them, “Most certainly, I tell you, the Son can do nothing of himself, but what he sees the Father doing. For whatever things he does, these the Son also does likewise.

²⁰CXar la Patro amas la Filon, kaj montras al li cxion, kion Li mem faras; kaj Li montros al li farojn pli grandajn ol cxi tio, por ke vi miru.

²⁰ For the Father has affection for the Son, and shows him all things that he himself does. He will show him greater works than these, that you may marvel.

²¹CXar kiel la Patro levas la mortintojn kaj ilin vivigas, tiel ankaux la Filo vivigas tiujn, kiujn li volas.

²¹ For as the Father raises the dead and gives them life, even so the Son also gives life to whom he desires.

²²CXar la Patro jugxas neniun, sed Li donis cxian jugxon al la Filo,

²² For the Father judges no one, but he has given all judgment to the Son,

²³por ke cxiuj honoru la Filon tiel same, kiel ili honoras la Patron. Kiu ne honoras la Filon, tiu ne honoras la Patron, kiu lin sendis.

²³ that all may honor the Son, even as they honor the Father. He who doesn’t honor the Son doesn’t honor the Father who sent him.

²⁴Vere, vere, mi diras al vi:Kiu auxskultas mian vorton, kaj kredas al Tiu, kiu min sendis, tiu havas eternan vivon kaj ne venas en jugxon, sed jam pasis de morto en vivon.

²⁴ “Most certainly I tell you, he who hears my word, and believes him who sent me, has eternal life, and doesn’t come into judgment, but has passed out of death into life.

²⁵Vere, vere, mi diras al vi:Venas horo kaj jam estas, kiam la mortintoj auxdos la vocxon de la Filo de Dio; kaj la auxdintoj vivos.

²⁵ Most certainly, I tell you, the hour comes, and now is, when the dead will hear the Son of God’s voice; and those who hear will live.

²⁶CXar kiel la Patro havas en Si mem vivon, tiel Li donis al la Filo ankaux, ke cxi tiu havu en si mem vivon;

²⁶ For as the Father has life in himself, even so he gave to the Son also to have life in himself.

²⁷kaj Li donis al li la rajton fari jugxon, cxar li estas la Filo de homo.

²⁷ He also gave him authority to execute judgment, because he is a son of man.

²⁸Ne miru pro tio; cxar venas horo, en kiu cxiuj, kiuj estas en la tomboj, auxdos lian vocxon,

²⁸ Don’t marvel at this, for the hour comes, in which all that are in the tombs will hear his voice,

²⁹kaj eliros; la farintoj de bono, al relevigxo por vivo; sed la farintoj de malbono, al relevigxo por jugxo.

²⁹ and will come out; those who have done good, to the resurrection of life; and those who have done evil, to the resurrection of judgment.

³⁰Mi ne povas per mi mem fari ion; kiel mi auxdas, tiel mi jugxas; kaj mia jugxo estas justa, cxar mi celas ne mian propran volon, sed la volon de Tiu, kiu min sendis.

³⁰ I can of myself do nothing. As I hear, I judge, and my judgment is righteous; because I don’t seek my own will, but the will of my Father who sent me.

³¹Se mi atestus pri mi mem, mia atesto ne estus vera.

³¹ “If I testify about myself, my witness is not valid.

³²Estas alia, kiu atestas pri mi; kaj mi scias, ke vera estas la atesto, kiun li atestas pri mi.

³² It is another who testifies about me. I know that the testimony which he testifies about me is true.

³³Vi sendis al Johano, kaj li atestis pri la vero.

³³ You have sent to John, and he has testified to the truth.

³⁴Sed la atesto, kiun mi ricevas, ne estas el homo, tamen mi tion diras, por ke vi estu savitaj.

³⁴ But the testimony which I receive is not from man. However, I say these things that you may be saved.

³⁵Li estis la lampo, kiu brulas kaj lumas; kaj vi volis gxoji kelkan tempon en lia lumo.

³⁵ He was the burning and shining lamp, and you were willing to rejoice for a while in his light.

³⁶Sed la atesto, kiun mi havas, estas pli granda ol la atesto de Johano; cxar la laboroj, kiujn la Patro donis al mi por fini, tiuj samaj laboroj, kiujn mi faras, atestas pri mi, ke la Patro min sendis.

³⁶ But the testimony which I have is greater than that of John, for the works which the Father gave me to accomplish, the very works that I do, testify about me, that the Father has sent me.

³⁷Kaj la Patro, kiu min sendis, atestis pri mi. Vi nek auxdis iam Lian vocxon, nek vidis Lian formon.

³⁷ The Father himself, who sent me, has testified about me. You have neither heard his voice at any time, nor seen his form.

³⁸Kaj vi ne havas Lian vorton restantan en vi, cxar vi ne kredas al tiu, kiun Li sendis.

³⁸ You don’t have his word living in you; because you don’t believe him whom he sent.

³⁹Vi esploras la Skribojn, cxar vi opinias, ke en ili vi havas eternan vivon; kaj ili estas tio, kio atestas pri mi;

³⁹ “You search the Scriptures, because you think that in them you have eternal life; and these are they which testify about me.

⁴⁰kaj vi ne volas veni al mi, por havi vivon.

⁴⁰ Yet you will not come to me, that you may have life.

⁴¹De homoj mi ne prenas gloron.

⁴¹ I don’t receive glory from men.

⁴²Sed mi vin scias, ke vi ne havas en vi la amon al Dio.

⁴² But I know you, that you don’t have God’s love in yourselves.

⁴³Mi venis en la nomo de mia Patro, kaj vi min ne akceptas; se alia venos en sia propra nomo, vi lin akceptos.

⁴³ I have come in my Father’s name, and you don’t receive me. If another comes in his own name, you will receive him.

⁴⁴Kiel povas kredi vi, kiuj prenas gloron unu de alia, kaj la gloron, kiu venas de la sola Dio, vi ne sercxas?

⁴⁴ How can you believe, who receive glory from one another, and you don’t seek the glory that comes from the only God?

⁴⁵Ne pensu, ke mi akuzos vin antaux la Patro; ekzistas unu, kiu akuzas vin, Moseo, al kiu vi esperas.

⁴⁵ “Don’t think that I will accuse you to the Father. There is one who accuses you, even Moses, on whom you have set your hope.

⁴⁶CXar se vi kredus al Moseo, vi ankaux kredus al mi, cxar li skribis pri mi.

⁴⁶ For if you believed Moses, you would believe me; for he wrote about me.

⁴⁷Sed se vi ne kredas liajn skribojn, kiel vi kredos miajn vortojn?

⁴⁷ But if you don’t believe his writings, how will you believe my words?”
