¹Kaj duafoje aperis al Jona vorto de la Eternulo, dirante:

¹The word of Yahweh came to Jonah the second time, saying,

²Levigxu, iru en la grandan urbon Nineve, kaj prediku al gxi la predikon, kiun Mi diros al vi.

²“Arise, go to Nineveh, that great city, and preach to it the message that I give you.”

³Tiam Jona levigxis kaj iris en Nineven, konforme al la vorto de la Eternulo. Nineve estis granda urbo cxe Dio; gxi havis la grandecon de tri tagoj da irado.

³So Jonah arose, and went to Nineveh, according to the word of Yahweh. Now Nineveh was an exceedingly great city, three days’ journey across.

⁴Kiam Jona komencis la trairadon de la urbo kaj trairis unu tagon, li vokis, kaj diris:Post kvardek tagoj Nineve pereos.

⁴Jonah began to enter into the city a day’s journey, and he cried out, and said, “In forty days, Nineveh will be overthrown!”

⁵La logxantoj de Nineve ekkredis je Dio, proklamis faston, kaj metis sur sin sakajxon, de la grandaj gxis la malgrandaj inter ili.

⁵The people of Nineveh believed God; and they proclaimed a fast, and put on sackcloth, from their greatest even to their least.

⁶The news reached the king of Nineveh, and he arose from his throne, and took off his royal robe, covered himself with sackcloth, and sat in ashes.

⁷Kaj li ordonis proklami en Nineve en la nomo de la regxo kaj de liaj altranguloj jenon:La homoj kaj la brutoj, la bovoj kaj la sxafoj, gustumu nenion, ili ne pasxtigxu kaj ne trinku akvon;

⁷He made a proclamation and published through Nineveh by the decree of the king and his nobles, saying, “Let neither man nor animal, herd nor flock, taste anything; let them not feed, nor drink water;

⁸kaj la homoj kaj la brutoj kovru sin per sakajxo, kaj voku forte al Dio, kaj cxiu deturnu sin de sia malbona vojo kaj de la perfortajxoj de siaj manoj:

⁸but let them be covered with sackcloth, both man and animal, and let them cry mightily to God. Yes, let them turn everyone from his evil way, and from the violence that is in his hands.

⁹eble Dio bedauxros, kaj forlasos Sian flaman koleron, kaj ni ne pereos.

⁹Who knows whether God will not turn and relent, and turn away from his fierce anger, so that we might not perish?”

¹⁰Kiam Dio vidis iliajn farojn, ke ili deturnis sin de sia malbona vojo, Dio bedauxris la malbonon, kiun Li minacis fari al ili, kaj Li tion ne faris.

¹⁰God saw their works, that they turned from their evil way. God relented of the disaster which he said he would do to them, and he didn’t do it.
