¹Ma kutsun siis üles anuma, palvetama, tegema eestpalveid ja tänupalveid kõigi inimeste eest,

¹I exhort therefore, first of all, that supplications, prayers, intercessions, thanksgivings be made for all men;

²kuningate ja kõigi ülemuste eest, et me võiksime elada vaikset ja rahulikku elu kõiges jumalakartuses ja väärikuses.

²for kings and all that are in dignity, that we may lead a quiet and tranquil life in all piety and gravity;

³See on hea ja meeldiv Jumala, meie Päästja silmis,

³for this is good and acceptable before our Saviour God,

⁴kes tahab, et kõik inimesed pääseksid ja tuleksid tõe tundmisele.

⁴who desires that all men should be saved and come to [the] knowledge of [the] truth.

⁵Sest üks on Jumal, üks on ka vahemees Jumala ja inimeste vahel: inimene Kristus Jeesus,

⁵For God is one, and [the] mediator of God and men one, [the] man Christ Jesus,

⁶kes on iseenese loovutanud lunastushinnaks kõikide eest, tunnistusena selleks määratud ajal.

⁶who gave himself a ransom for all, the testimony [to be rendered] in its own times;

⁷Selle sõnumi kuulutajaks ja apostliks olen ma pandud - ma räägin tõtt, ma ei valeta -, paganate õpetajaks usus ja tões.

⁷to which *I* have been appointed a herald and apostle, (I speak [the] truth, I do not lie,) a teacher of [the] nations in faith and truth.

⁸Ma tahan siis, et mehed igal pool palvetaksid, tõstes üles pühad käed ilma viha ja kahtlemiseta.

⁸I will therefore that the men pray in every place, lifting up pious hands, without wrath or reasoning.

⁹Niisamuti ka naised, kombekalt rõivastatuna, ehtigu end häbelikkuse ja mõõdukusega, mitte soengute ega kulla ega pärlite ega kallite riietega,

⁹In like manner also that the women in decent deportment and dress adorn themselves with modesty and discretion, not with plaited [hair] and gold, or pearls, or costly clothing,

¹⁰vaid heade tegudega, nagu on kohane naistele, kes end tunnistavad jumalakartlikeks.

¹⁰but, what becomes women making profession of the fear of God, by good works.

¹¹Naine õppigu vaikselt täielikus alistumises;

¹¹Let a woman learn in quietness in all subjection;

¹²ma ei luba naisel õpetada ega mehe üle valitseda, vaid ta olgu vaikne.

¹²but I do not suffer a woman to teach nor to exercise authority over man, but to be in quietness;

¹³Sest Aadam loodi enne, seejärel Eeva,

¹³for Adam was formed first, then Eve:

¹⁴ka ei petetud Aadamat, vaid naine peteti ära ja ta sattus üleastumisse,

¹⁴and Adam was not deceived; but the woman, having been deceived, was in transgression.

¹⁵ent ta pääseb lastesünnitamise kaudu, kui ta mõõdukuses jääb usku ja armastusse ja pühitsusse.

¹⁵But she shall be preserved in childbearing, if they continue in faith and love and holiness with discretion.
