¹Vana mehega ära kärgi, vaid räägi lahkesti nagu isaga, noorematega nagu vendadega,

¹Rebuke not an elder sharply, but exhort [him] as a father, younger [men] as brethren,

²vanemate naistega nagu emadega, noorematega nagu õdedega - kõiges puhtuses.

²elder women as mothers, younger women as sisters, with all purity.

³Austa lesknaisi, kes on tõeliselt lesed!

³Honour widows who are really widows;

⁴Aga kui kellelgi lesknaisel on lapsi või lapselapsi, siis need õppigu esmalt ise kohtlema jumalakartlikult oma peret ja tänulikult tasuma, mis nad on võlgu oma vanematele; sest see on meelepärane Jumala silmis.

⁴but if any widow have children or descendants, let them learn first to be pious as regards their own house, and to render a return on their side to [their] parents; for this is acceptable in the sight of God.

⁵Kes on aga lesknaine tõeliselt ja üksi maha jäänuna loodab Jumala peale, see jääb anuma ja palvetama nii ööd kui päevad.

⁵Now she who [is] a widow indeed, and is left alone, has put [her] hope in God, and continues in supplications and prayers night and day.

⁶Kes aga liiderdab, see on elusalt surnud.

⁶But she that lives in habits of self-indulgence is dead [while] living.

⁷Ja käsi neid, et nad elaksid laitmatult.

⁷And these things enjoin, that they may be irreproachable.

⁸Kui aga keegi omaste ja kõige lähedasemate eest ei hoolitse, siis see on salanud ära usu ja on halvem kui uskmatu.

⁸But if any one does not provide for his own, and specially for those of [his] house, he has denied the faith, and is worse than the unbeliever.

⁹Leskede hulka loetagu see, kes on vähemalt kuuekümneaastane ning on olnud ühemehenaine,

⁹Let a widow be put upon the list, being of not less than sixty years, [having been] wife of one man,

¹⁰kelle heade tegude kohta on tunnistajaid, olgu ta lapsi üles kasvatanud või võõraid vastu võtnud või pühade jalgu pesnud või viletsaid abistanud või otsinud võimalust teha mis tahes heategusid.

¹⁰borne witness to in good works, if she have brought up children, if she have exercised hospitality, if she have washed saints' feet, if she have imparted relief to the distressed, if she have diligently followed every good work.

¹¹Nooremad lesed aga jäta välja, sest kui neid haarab iharus, hoolimata Kristusest, siis nad tahavad abielluda

¹¹But younger widows decline; for when they grow wanton against Christ, they desire to marry,

¹²ja neile saab süüks, et nad on murdnud truudust esimesele lepingule.

¹²being guilty, because they have cast off their first faith.

¹³Pealegi nad õpivad olema jõude ja käima mööda maju, ent nad ei ole üksnes jõude, vaid nad on ka lobisejad ja uudishimutsejad ning räägivad seda, mida ei sobi.

¹³And, at the same time, they learn also [to be] idle, going about to people's houses; and not only idle, but also gossipers and meddlers, speaking things not becoming.

¹⁴Ma tahan siis, et nooremad abielluksid, sünnitaksid lapsi, hoiaksid kodu ega annaks meie vastastele mingit alust halvustamiseks.

¹⁴I will therefore that the younger marry, bear children, rule the house, give no occasion to the adversary in respect of reproach.

¹⁵Sest mõned on juba saatana jälgedesse pöördunud.

¹⁵For already some have turned aside after Satan.

¹⁶Kui uskliku peres on lesknaisi, siis ta toetagu neid ja ärgu tulgu see koormaks kogudusele, et kogudus võiks toetada neid, kes on lesknaised tõeliselt.

¹⁶If any believing man or woman have widows, let them impart relief to them, and let not the assembly be charged, that it may impart relief to those [that are] widows indeed.

¹⁷Vanemaid, kes hästi juhatavad kogudusi, peetagu kahevõrra austusväärseiks, eriti neid, kes näevad vaeva sõna ja õpetamisega.

¹⁷Let the elders who take the lead [among the saints] well be esteemed worthy of double honour, specially those labouring in word and teaching;

¹⁸Pühakiri ütleb ju: 'Sa ei tohi siduda kinni pahmast tallava härja suud!' ja 'Tööline on väärt oma palka'.

¹⁸for the scripture says, Thou shalt not muzzle an ox that treadeth out corn, and, The workman [is] worthy of his hire.

¹⁹Vanema vastu tõstetud kaebust ära võta muidu kuulda, kui et on kaks või kolm tunnistajat.

¹⁹Against an elder receive not an accusation unless where there are two or three witnesses.

²⁰Patustajaid noomi kõikide ees, et ka teised hakkaksid kartma.

²⁰Those that sin convict before all, that the rest also may have fear.

²¹Ma vannutan sind Jumala ja Issanda Jeesuse Kristuse ja valitud inglite ees, et sa seda kõike silmas peaksid ilma eelarvamusteta ega teeks midagi erapoolikult!

²¹I testify before God and Christ Jesus and the elect angels, that thou keep these things without prejudice, doing nothing by favour.

²²Ära ole kärmas käsi kellegi peale panema, ära ka tee end võõraste pattude osaliseks! Hoia end puhtana!

²²Lay hands quickly on no man, nor partake in others' sins. Keep thyself pure.

²³Ära joo enam vett, vaid kasuta veidi veini oma kõhu ja oma sagedaste põdemiste pärast.

²³Drink no longer only water, but use a little wine on account of thy stomach and thy frequent illnesses.

²⁴Mõne inimese patud on kohe ilmsed ja viivad kohtumõistmisele, aga mõne patud järgnevad neile.

²⁴Of some men the sins are manifest beforehand, going before to judgment, and some also they follow after.

²⁵Niisamuti on ka head teod ilmsed ning needki, mis seda ei ole, ei saa jääda varjule.

²⁵In like manner good works also are manifest beforehand, and those that are otherwise cannot be hid.
