¹Siis rääkis Iiob ja ütles:

¹And Job answered and said,

²'Kuulge ometi mu sõnu ja see olgu mulle troostiks!

²Hear attentively my speech, and let this replace your consolations.

³Olge minuga kannatlikud, siis ma räägin, ja kui olen rääkinud, võite irvitada!

³Suffer me and I will speak; and after I have spoken, mock on!

⁴Kas ma kaeban inimese peale? Ja miks ei peakski mu vaim muutuma kannatamatuks?

⁴As for me, is my complaint to a man? or wherefore should not my spirit be impatient?

⁵Vaadake minu poole, siis te ehmute ja panete käe suu peale.

⁵Mark me, and be astonished, and lay the hand upon the mouth.

⁶Sest kui ma sellele mõtlen, siis ma jahmun ja värin haarab mu ihu.

⁶Even when I think [thereon], I am affrighted, and trembling taketh hold of my flesh.

⁷Miks jäävad õelad elama, saavad vanaks, võtavad isegi jõudu juurde?

⁷Wherefore do the wicked live, grow old, yea, become mighty in power?

⁸Nende sugu seisab kindlana nendega nende ees ja nende järglased on nende silma all.

⁸Their seed is established with them in their sight, and their offspring before their eyes.

⁹Nende kojad on säästetud hirmust ja Jumala vitsa pole nende peal.

⁹Their houses are safe from fear, neither is the rod of +God upon them.

¹⁰Nende sõnn kargab, ja mitte asjata, nende lehmad poegivad loodet heitmata.

¹⁰Their bull gendereth, and faileth not; their cow calveth, and casteth not her calf.

¹¹Nad lasevad oma lapsukesi joosta nagu lambaid ja nende noorukid tantsivad.

¹¹They send forth their little ones like a flock, and their children dance.

¹²Nad laulavad trummi ja kandle saatel ning tunnevad rõõmu vilepilli häälest.

¹²They shout to the tambour and harp, and rejoice at the sound of the pipe.

¹³Nad veedavad oma päevi õnnes ja lähevad rahus alla surmavalda.

¹³They spend their days in prosperity, and in a moment go down to Sheol.

¹⁴Nad ütlevad Jumalale: 'Tagane meist, sest sinu teede tundmiseks pole meil lusti!

¹⁴And they say unto ùGod, Depart from us, for we desire not the knowledge of thy ways!

¹⁵Kes on Kõigevägevam, et peaksime teda teenima? Ja mis kasu meil on, kui me ta poole palvetame?'

¹⁵What is the Almighty that we should serve him? and what are we profited if we pray unto him?

¹⁶Vaata, eks ole nende õnn nende endi käes, õelate nõu minust kaugel?

¹⁶Behold, their prosperity is not in their hand. The counsel of the wicked be far from me!

¹⁷Kui sageli siis kustub õelate lamp ja tabab neid õnnetus? Kui sageli ta jagab oma vihas hukatust,

¹⁷How often is the lamp of the wicked put out, and cometh their calamity upon them? Doth he distribute sorrows [to them] in his anger?

¹⁸et nad oleksid nagu õled tuules, otsekui aganad, mida tuulekeeris hajutab?

¹⁸Do they become as stubble before the wind, and as chaff that the storm carrieth away?

¹⁹Jumal talletavat õela süü tema laste jaoks. Ta tasugu temale enesele, nõnda et ta tunneb!

¹⁹+God layeth up [the punishment of] his iniquity for his children; he rewardeth him, and he shall know [it]:

²⁰Nähku ta oma silmad tema langust ja ta ise joogu Kõigevägevama viha!

²⁰His eyes shall see his destruction, and he shall drink of the fury of the Almighty.

²¹Tõesti, ei ole siis rõõmu ta kojal pärast teda, kui ta kuude arv on napiks mõõdetud.

²¹For what pleasure should he have in his house after him, when the number of his months is cut off?

²²Aga kas võiks Jumalale tarkust õpetada, temale, kes taevalistelegi kohut mõistab?

²²Can any teach ùGod knowledge? And he it is that judgeth those that are high.

²³Üks sureb oma täies elujõus, kõigiti rahulikult ja muretult,

²³One dieth in his full strength, being wholly at ease and quiet;

²⁴reied lihavad ja kondid täis üdi.

²⁴His sides are full of fat, and the marrow of his bones is moistened;

²⁵Teine sureb kibestunud hingega, õnne maitsta saamata.

²⁵And another dieth in bitterness of soul, and hath not tasted good:

²⁶Nad magavad üheskoos põrmus ja ussikesed katavad neid.

²⁶Together they lie down in the dust, and the worms cover them.

²⁷Vaata, ma tean teie mõtteid ja riukaid, mis te minu vastu sepitsete.

²⁷Lo, I know your thoughts, and the devices ye wrongfully imagine against me.

²⁸Sest te küsite: 'Kus on siis nüüd see võimumehe koda? Ja kus on telk, milles õelad elasid?'

²⁸For ye say, Where is the house of the noble? and where the tent of the dwellings of the wicked?

²⁹Kas te ei ole küsinud teekäijailt ega ole tähele pannud nende märguandeid,

²⁹Have ye not asked the wayfarers? and do ye not regard their tokens:

³⁰et kurjale antakse armu õnnetusepäeval ja ta päästetakse vihapäeval?

³⁰That the wicked is reserved for the day of calamity? They are led forth to the day of wrath.

³¹Kes kuulutaks temale näkku ta käitumist ja kes tasuks temale, mis ta on teinud?

³¹Who shall declare his way to his face? and who shall repay him what he hath done?

³²Ja kui ta hauda viiakse, siis hoolitsetakse isegi ta kääpa eest.

³²Yet is he carried to the graves, and watch is kept over the tomb.

³³Oru kivipangadki on temale magusad. Tema järele lähevad kõik inimesed, ja enne teda läinuid on arvutult.

³³The clods of the valley are sweet unto him; and every man followeth suit after him, as there were innumerable before him.

³⁴Kuidas te siis mulle toote nõnda tühist troosti? Ja teie vastused - neist jääb järele ainult vale.'

³⁴How then comfort ye me in vain? Your answers remain perfidious.
